Staff are more than friendly. Their care of the residents is outstanding. I was impressed by the number of activities and outings that were arranged for the month.

Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Rooms are bright and the view of the Snowdonia range from my brother's room was outstanding.

The

level of care and attention was remarkable. I particularly liked the information and background of residents that's placed outside their room. The meals served there are good quality and looked delicious.

I would highly recommend Plas Newydd.

Reply from Becs Charles, Manager at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreThanks Heulwen, it is good to hear that it has been acknowledged that our activities availability had improved. we have been working on this since it was brought up at our last residents/relatives meeting. this shows how important family input is in making positive improvements to our delivery of care. I will be sure to feed this back to our activities team.

I am so pleased with fairways . My father has been suffering and still is from Alzheimer's. All the staff are wonderful with him and the rest of our family. Nothing is to much trouble and the way my father is cared for is exceptional. They are kind , considerate and understand the needs of my father
. I visit often and always find fairways staff welcoming. My father also is always clean and presentable even though at times I know he can be very difficult
Fairways is home from home for my father and for me too as it's like an extended family for us all
Thank you to all the staff we appreciate all your hard work, compassion and love shown to all
Reply from Becs Charles, Manager at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreThank you for that lovely review, it can be a challenge at times because we are not immediate family but we always endeavour to treat our residents as if member of immediate family. I can't speak highly enough of Fairways Newydd Care Home and the amazing nurses and staff who care for my nan, Elizabeth. Every single member of the team shows such genuine kindness, patience, and compassion, and it's clear they truly care about the residents as individuals.

They always make sure

Elizabeth is comfortable, happy, and treated with dignity, and they consistently meet all of her needs. What means the most to me is how well they keep me informed - they communicate regularly and are always happy to talk through anything, which gives me real peace of mind.

The home feels warm, welcoming, and full of friendly faces. Knowing Elizabeth is in such safe and caring hands is such a comfort to our family. I'm so grateful for everything they do and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for exceptional care for their loved one.

Reply from Rebekah Charles, Manager at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreThanks for this wonderful feedback, I will share this with the team. Its been a pleasure caring for your grandmother. Its very often that the carers work gets overlooked and its great for people to recognise this and to take the time to document this recommendation.

My sister had been a resident at Fairways Newydd for four years. She suffered with dementia. At all times, the care was exemplary, and she was always treated with dignity. As a relative, I was kept well informed of any issues as I lived over 200 miles away. At the end of her life, my brother and I were
taken care of in every way, which made her passing as smooth as it could be. Staff were always available, day and night at assist. If I ever need a care home myself, I would be happy to stay here.
Reply from R Charles, Manager at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreWhat a lovely review. Thanks for this i will be sure to feedback this to the team. It can sometimes be a struggle for the staff and can often feels like a hill climb so hearing this really makes a difference.

I am very pleased with the way my mother is being looked after. She is always very clean and she has a large and very bright room. She's well fed and seems to be happy. The staff are pleasant and very helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Not too pleased with the laundry, her jumpers have been spoilt
and shrunk, that's the only complaint!
Reply from Rebekah Charles, Manager at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreHi Wendy, I will speak to our laundry staff about this, as this is not what we want its important that we take care of the residents clothing. Please do let me know if this doesn't improve and as always I'm happy to replace should it be required. Apologies once again. Thanks very much for your review on the whole your happy with our care which is great news.

My sister has been at Fairways Newydd for around two months. The managers of the home and the staff have been absolutely wonderful. My sister's situation was a difficult entry but has been handled with such empathy, care and support. We cannot recommend Fairways Newydd, the staff and the facilities
enough. Nothing is too much and the support they offer to relatives is first class. Thank you for all that you do. I am reserving a room for when it is my turn!!

My sister has been at Fairways Newydd for approx. a year & a half. I live some distance away but visit regularly and feel I now know both the home and it's staff. From the moment you enter you are made to feel welcome by a staff who are positive & committed to the care and wellbeing of their residents.
The building is well maintained and constantly being renovated/improved. The changes make it feel less sterile and more homely but that doesn't mean cleanliness is overlooked. The housekeeping team keep the place spotless, constantly washing the corridor floors, cleaning resident's rooms & public areas. They look smart & without exception are cheerful & friendly.

The carers & nursing team show a kindness & patience that is a credit to their professions. Whilst I'd love to mention names, the guidelines of this survey prevent it. The number of residents & their complex needs does, however, mean that they are always busy & sometimes unable to spend as much time with each resident as they would wish.

Reply from Rebekah Charles, Manager at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreThanks for your review I would agree that our domestic team go above and beyond to ensure the home looks and smells as fresh and clean as far as practicable. The care staff try very hard and its not always easy for them to spend time with individual residents, as you say, on a busy day. some days are better than others. However we endeavour to improve on this and engage as many family members and residents as possible.

The staff at Fairways gave mum a lovely warm welcome when she arrived and went out of their way to get her involved in the activities. The staff were always friendly, warm, caring, welcoming and helpful and we couldn't have found a nicer place for mum. The home has a very welcoming and homely atmosphere,
it's beautifully clean and there are always staff available to talk to for help and advice. Mum was very well looked after and we can't thank them enough for their care of her.

When arriving at Fairways as always a warm welcome is to be had by the receptionist, and the wonderful nurses are always on hand and available to answer any concerns I have and act instantly. The staff on Hafan are friendly and always ready to comply to any requests I have. As I visit on a Wednesday
and Sunday I have noticed more staff available mid week. Attention definitely needs to be made to the activities as what is shown on the board dairy doesn't happen. In my experience but I understand this has now been resolved. I am not familiar with management as I rarely see them.
Reply from Faye Fraser, Admin at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreThank you for taking the time to write a review for us. It means a lot to us a a team to have feedback. Asked for a breakdown of charges, how much it costs to look after my father, ie weekly food, cost of two staff to get him out of bed into his chair in the morning and back again in the evening, basic cost for his room, (electric, water etc) but I was refused the information by the manager at Fairways
newydd, refused to pay the cost of my father's stay there until we get the breakdown, cost quoted on the 26th of February 25 was £1011 less the local health board payment, they now want £1355 including the health board payment of £218 a week, now they are giving my father a letter to quit the home unless we pay, we will pay if we get the breakdown which they are refusing to give manger was abrupt and put the phone down on me when I asked for the third or fourth time forva breakdown of costs, it seems to charging us for dementia care which my father hasn't got, the council pay just over £1100 less the health board payment of £218 why is my father singled out for such a big difference.
Reply from Paul Nicholls, Operations Director at Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care CentreWe thank you for your feedback. We are unable to provide a cost breakdown on a basis that you suggest due the home not only having bedrooms but having communal areas, general service areas and more. We also have ancillary staff such as laundry and kitchen etc. who all play vital roles in delivering the best care and enable our care staff to carry out the wonderful work they do. There are also many costs relating to equipment and compliance to consider. Whilst I understand your frustration, running a care service is complex and requires a multi-faceted approach. We believe our costs are in line with the current market for the high-quality care we provide at Fairways Newydd. As demonstrated by the numerous good reviews and excellent feedback both the manager and the home receives. We endeavour to keep these costs as fair as possible. We would never ask your father to leave our home without just cause, like any service if a person does not pay, we are left with no other choice.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.742)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.742) out of 10 for Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.742 for Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (244 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 302 Ratings = 4.742
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairways Newydd Nursing and Dementia Care Centre is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
