I have been meaning to write a formal review for some time as Mum has lived at the Mountains since last October and I have been very happy with the care she receives. Just over a week ago Mum received a visit from her sister, and two great friends, who Mum has not seen for over a year. As I felt it
was an important visit for all concerned i rang the Home ahead of time and explained, and requested the garden lounge be available for the visit. Following the visit my aunt, one of the visitors, rang me and was full of praise for the warm welcome they received, commenting that we could not have found a better home for Mum. They were supported to access the quiet lounge, then enjoyed time in the garden, too, which they all thoroughly enjoyed . My aunt said all staff were very warm and caring.
Personally, I too find all staff very committed and very supportive - the nurses, carers, housekeeping, activities team- and I have had excellent communication with the new Manager.

I visit my friend every week and travel from Llandrindod Wells. Having been a support worker myself, I have been in many care establishments and 'The Mountains' are by far the best that I have experienced. I am even observant. The support is excellent with plenty to stimulate, caring and all treated
with dignity and a smile. The building/rooms are comfortable and clean (no bad odours). The food is delicious.
A larger lift would be good.

Mum transitioned from a residential care to here a nursing home with ease. Communication prior to move was good, the activity staff collected and welcomed Mum into her new home. All staff at every level are helpful, kind and very approachable. The home is busy and staff have many challenges but they
always carry out their roles respectfully and with kindness. The Mountains is clean and appears well equipped. Mums room is very nice and always well presented. Mum enjoys local trips out which has been made possibly by the fabulous Activity Team!
My experience of The Mountains Care Home is very, very good. Mum is settled and happy here. Thank you all very much for all your hard work.

Mum is very happy in the mountains care home. The staff are very professional, courteous and caring, saving me a lot of worry and frequent phone calls. Communication is very good and the activities are excellent. I was emotionally exhausted and feeling terribly guilty at placing Mum into care but now
when I visit it comes with the warmest welcome and I can enjoy quality time with Mum. It's a great comfort to see her, well cared for and happy. So thank you all for such a brilliant and vital service.

So pleasing to read the most recent HIW report. Mum has been a resident for over 4 years. The manager has worked very hard to create a well-run care home. The staff works so well as a team and the activities team does so many interesting activities with the residents. Communication has improved and

Mum seems very happy here. The staff are terrific and offer a very personal as well as professional service. Over the past year there has been a really noticeable improvement overall. On every visit Mum looks nicely dressed and with her favourite accessories. It's really nice to see.

The care my dad has is exceptional, he seems happy and well-treated. The home is going through amazing changes e.g. it's all been decorated and new chairs etc. There are now regular meetings. They are now doing a new menu which sounds a lot better. I'm very happy with how my dad's being cared for.

My sister spent a month in The Mountains in September while her home carer had surgery. We were a little apprehensive as she is still young, but she loved every minute.
The staff were more than welcoming, making her feel 'normal' for the first time in a long time. She enjoyed the food but was a little
limited in choice being vegetarian (hence the drop in one star).
She was well cared for, enjoyed the social aspect and the special bonus was that she could take her little westie with her. She was so content that she has no qualms about going back if she needs to.

In my opinion, the most important qualities of a care home are trust and caring at a personal level. It is obvious to anyone visiting the Mountains, that all the staff not only care about residents but make every effort to make both the residents and visitors know that they care.

My mother has been a resident at The Mountains for just over 7-months. She has settled well. The staff are kind and caring. The activities team do their best to introduce a variety of activities for everyone. She enjoys the meals and also the occasional cakes for birthdays etc. The management and staff

My mum has been here a short while, so far. She has settled well, considering everything she has been through before and in these unsettling times!
So far, we have not been able to visit many times, and it is difficult to know exactly how everything is run.

Therisa

Therisa Galazka

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2025

Therisa Galazka is the Home Manager at the Mountains and takes great pride in her role and the opportunity to work in the stunning surroundings of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons). With over 25 years of experience in the health and social care sector, Therisa began her career as a registered mental health nurse.


She has worked across both the NHS and the independent sector, progressing to the role of the Hospital Director, where she led a large multi-disciplinary Team for fifteen years. Therisa is passionate about improving care for all. She has played a key role in commissioning and establishing three secure services in South Wales, supporting individuals living with mental disorders and complex challenging behaviours.


Her work has focused on strategic planning, implementing management initiatives and driving continuous improvement.


In recognition of her dedication during the pandemic, Therisa was awarded the "Inspirational Nurse of the Year award in 2021 for her proactive leadership and unwavering support for her team and service users.


Therisa is proud to be leading the team at the Mountains and working closely with managers and staff, supporting everyone to develop their skills and nurturing a positive environment in which they can provide the highest quality care for all residents.

Sue

Sue Clark

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Sue has worked in care since the age of 17 and qualified as a nurse at 39.


Originally from Portsmouth, she later moved to Tredegar and began supporting the team at The Mountains before making a permanent move to the home a year ago.


As Deputy Manager and Clinical Lead, Sue plays a vital role in supporting residents and staff. She oversees clinical care, guides the team, and ensures that every resident continues to receive compassionate, respectful support no matter how their needs change.


Having swapped the sea for the mountains, Sue has embraced her new community with enthusiasm. She is committed to building strong relationships with residents, staff, and families, always maintaining an open-door policy for conversations, phone calls, and support.


Sue is passionate about creating a homely environment where residents feel valued, understood, and cared for with empathy every day.

Taryn

Taryn Williams

Job Title: Clinical Lead

Taryn joined The Mountains nearly two years ago and brings a wealth of experience as an adult nurse specialising in dementia care. She qualified at the University of South Wales and, having grown up in Nelson, Caerphilly, has always had a passion for supporting older people, particularly those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia – a journey she began at just 18 years old.


As Clinical Lead, Taryn focuses on the health and well-being of residents, supporting their everyday needs and ensuring person-centred care is delivered with compassion. She also works closely with the management team and supports fellow nurses to provide the very best standards of care.


Taryn enjoys being part of The Mountains, valuing both the supportive team and the warm, welcoming environment. For her, the setting of the home and the sense of community make it a special place to work.
