Airthrey Care Nursing Home is a purpose-built care home located in Airth, close to Falkirk and Stirling.

With a team of professional and experienced registered nurses and care workers, the home provides personalised nursing care for older people, and those with dementia and other health conditions, in a homely environment.

As well as the caring team at the home, residents also benefit from access to external healthcare professionals, including GPs, Occupational & Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Podiatrists, Specialist Nursing Services and Community Mental Health Teams. This ensures every aspect of their care is catered for. All team members follow infection control procedures at all times.

Airthrey Care Home's dedicated Activities Team offer residents a varied programme of activities that can be tailored to suit individual needs. Residents are supported and encouraged to socialise and continue their hobbies, making the most of life at the home as well as keeping connected with the local community. The home also has a trishaw that enables residents to go for assisted cycle rides.

The home offers 52 fully furnished ensuite bedrooms, and uses assistive technology to ensure the safety, well-being and mobility of residents, empowering them to be an independent as possible.

There are also four spacious lounge and dining areas where residents can choose to enjoy professionally prepared meals, as well as dedicated quiet areas within the home where residents can choose to relax, and secure landscaped gardens. Residents also have access to a hairdressing and beauty salon where they can enjoy some TLC.

My father has now been in Airthrey Care Home for almost three years, having advanced dementia. Having visited seven other local homes we were delighted there was a place for him in Airthrey Care Home. Of all the homes, this was the only one with an "open door" policy offering a visit without an appointment.
Hugely reassuring as it meant "take us as seen, warts and all". Fortunately, there were no "warts". Instead, we found a lovely, welcoming, and homely atmosphere where it seemed residents were part of a family who cared for them. The care he has received in this time has been excellent. Each and every member of staff frequently goes above and beyond and it is clear Dad, whilst unable now to communicate, trusts and has a bond with many members of staff. There is excellent communication between staff and family members and I am reassured Dad is in safe and caring hands.

My mum was put into Airthrey Care Home on the 13th of July, directly from hospital in the middle of the coronavirus. The family never got to view the home prior to mum being admitted, the family were in turmoil and really worried mum would never accept this. I must say every member of staff is very
friendly and also very professional. They don’t just care for our loved ones, they get to know the family and help in any way they can. I have to say mum seemed to settle in very quickly which gave the family some comfort. I take my hat off to everyone involved in running such a lovely place and keeping our loved ones safe through this awful pandemic.

My husband has Lewy Body Dementia and has been in Airthrey Care Home since July 2020. He was always a quiet man who never caused any trouble anywhere and the staff realise that and treat him accordingly. He is well looked after and all staff are very nice and kind to him. He has always enjoyed his
food and in Airthrey Care Home, despite the dementia he still enjoys it. I cannot praise the staff enough for their care of him.

I am very happy with this care home and they are looking after my partner very well, the only problem is getting a staff member on the phone but I assume they are very busy with their clients. I would recommend this care home.

It is difficult to give an accurate review because I have very limited access to my mother due to Covid-19 restrictions. It was 8 months after she was admitted that I was actually allowed my first visit into her bedroom. Therefore, it is hard to judge how the staff and management behave towards her
(I know she can be difficult and stubborn at times). There have been almost no organised activities since my mother became a resident (all because of Covid-19 restrictions) and this lack of stimulation has certainly accelerated her dementia. This must be a problem for all Care Homes and I think it is a terrible situation. Old ladies at the end of their lives thrive on family visits and stimulation, it is cruel to deprive them of this.

Due to the current pandemic, most of the family have been unable to enter the care home to ascertain properly the subjects I am reviewing. However, when staff have been attending to our mum they have treated her with care, affection and dignity. She looks well looked after and seems content. I can
only make a judgement call on matters inside the home at this time.

My husband was admitted into Airthrey Care Nursing Home for a weeks respite. I can honestly say he was well provided and cared for. The staff were first class and I was so relieved and very confident in leaving him there. I thoroughly deserved my week break. Hopefully, I can use the care home again
sometime in the future.

My mother has been a resident in the Mercat unit of Airthrey Care for 4 weeks.
Having visited seven care homes within the Falkirk area, Airthrey Care was the home that impressed me the most with respect to the welcome, cleanliness and the staff.
In the weeks since mother has moved into the home, I
believe my brother and I have made the best decision on behalf of mother.

It was a very hard decision to put my Dad, who has dementia, into care. From the start, all staff at Airthrey have made all of us welcome. They have been great with my Dad who settled in really quickly. Any issues have bee dealt with respect. Would recommend Airthrey highly.

Have been impressed by the quality of service and care provided to my father.
Personal care is extremely good. Food, nutrition and hydration very good. Staff are friendly and caring towards my father and family. Nothing is too much bother. Bedrooms and living areas are well set out.

Since talking with the manager and her staff, I am pleased to say that an effort has been made to tackle all my concerns. There is a marked difference in the provision of materials on offer to stimulate them. The domino 'sharks' are playing unaided and will sit there for hours, taking it all very seriously.
Craft has been offered at another table, also hand massages and nails being painted which the women love. The garden is much brighter with the addition of bird boxes and feeders, although at the moment it is just magpies and pigeons that use it! The residents are enjoying watching them coming down.
A big thank you to all the staff for the part they have taken in this, on top of their busy routine.

My 96-year-old mother has been in Airthrey Care for two years. She has always been treated with dignity and compassion by all members of staff.
My wife and I are regular visitors to the home and we are also made to feel welcome on our visits. We are often asked for our opinion regarding mum's welfare
and invited to say if we have any concerns.
I would fully recommend the care home.

Job Title: Care Home Manager

We are passionate about the care and well-being of residents at Airthrey. I aim to ensure that every resident in our home feels happy and secure while they are with us.


Our home is a focal point in the local community and we are known for our excellent standard of care. We regularly engage in community initiatives to help bring more awareness to the work we do and make our residents feel at home.


Our aim is for residents to feel like they are a part of the Airth community and we encourage participation in local events and activities whenever possible.


We have a cycle trishaw – a special bike designed to carry two passengers – which allows us to take our residents out and about for a ride around the local area. This is a hugely social experience and our neighbours are now used to seeing us wheeling around Airth!


Our private garden area serves as an ideal space for relaxation and group activities. We also offer generously proportioned bedrooms with full en-suite shower facilities.


Appointments are not required for those interested in touring the home and our staff would be more than happy to assist with any queries.
