I was very worried about my mum moving to Bandrum. It was during lockdown which meant I could not be there with her to help her settle in. I had absolutely no reason at all to feel worried. Once I was able to see my mum my mind was put completely at ease. She is so much more relaxed and content. She
is always full of chat and song when I see her now. She is definitely receiving the care that she needs and deserves. The staff have all been so helpful and always have time to talk when I call to see how Mum is doing. The surrounding area is definitely another plus point. It is so lovely and peaceful. I definitely recommend Bandrum’s services.
Reply from Rachel Payne, Managing Director at Bandrum Nursing HomeThank you so much Fiona for sharing your review. I'm so pleased at your feedback. I know it has been a hard time for everyone and must have been daunting moving into a care home during lockdown. I'm so pleased to hear your Mum has settled in so well. If we can help in any other way. Please let us know. Thanks again.

Our experience of Bandrum has been overwhelmingly positive from the outset. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with a distinctly non-institutional feel which quickly helped our mother feel at home. Mum tends to prefer her own company and is able to spend time in her room reading or watching TV. However,
staff have encouraged her to join in many of the activities laid on by the home, and I think she has surprised herself by how much she has enjoyed them.
We receive regular emails and photos and can check out the Facebook page for the latest news. Bandrum excels at keeping in touch with families, and this has been more important than ever over the course of the pandemic. We appreciate every email and update, and every effort made to enhance the lives of the residents.
Above all, however, it is the staff who make Bandrum the place it is. They truly are exceptional - warm, professional, respectful of individual needs and always going the extra mile - the very heart of this home.

I honestly couldn't imagine my mum being in a better care home.
The staff are absolutely lovely and know exactly how to handle her Huntington's disease.
I know I can rest easy in the knowledge that my mum is well cared for and in very good hands.

I would highly recommend this care home.

My mum has been in Bandrum for around 15 years now and I honestly couldn’t recommend a care home enough. There are so many examples I could give around the outstanding care provided to my mum, especially during the pandemic where my mum's safety along with the other residents was always paramount. The
carers and nurses always put residents before their own needs and are there for families to reassure them at all times. I rest easy knowing my mum is well taken care of and all her needs are met.
I was allowed to decorate my mum's room to her tastes, allowing her to feel secure and relaxed in her own space.
I have taken my mum on 2 holidays in the last couple of years accompanied by a carer and a nurse, who ensured that we both had everything we needed to make sure our stay was as special as possible.
The staff at Bandrum are my family, and if you choose this home this will extend to you too.
Words aren’t enough to express the gratitude I have for these beautiful people!

Mum made the difficult decision to move into nursing home care in January 2019 and we found Bandrum. From our initial visit, through admission and deciding to stay long term, the staff could not have been more helpful, compassionate or caring. They took time to get to know her likes and dislikes and
her mischievous sense of humour. The support to myself at that time, clearing and selling her house, dealing with her affairs, was kind, thoughtful and caring. As well as the staff in the unit, the office staff helped me navigate the financial and administrative side of things and were always on the end of a phone or email to help - a source of great reassurance when I lived so far away. Unfortunately, Mum’s health declined and she passed away in October, the care and compassion shown during her last weeks and days and to me in dealing with things both then and afterwards was something I will not forget.
Reply from Rachel Payne, Managing Director at Bandrum Nursing HomeThank you so much for sending your thoughtful review. I would like to commend the staff and management for the excellent way they have and are dealing with the current situation. I have total belief in the way they are looking after and caring for my mother. We are kept up to date with the changing rules to do with visiting. The staff are always polite
and as helpful as they can be within the rules when we talk to them.

My Father came to Bandrum Nursing Home last year he was 89 with Dementia this was after looking at 13 other Care homes. When I called and asked if they could take my dad it was like a breath of fresh air they simply said yes, confirming they were more than experienced to give dad the right care. We
knew this was the right place for dad, lots of space and run by staff who genuinely cared. My father passed away on the 19th April we were unable to see dad due to the COVID-19, but the empathy and communication from the home was excellent being kept informed all the way. It was a great comfort to the family to know dad would be with people who genuinely loved him, and he would not be alone. Our thanks are not just for the fantastic care Bandrum gave dad but for their continual commitment to care under such difficult and challenging times. When we clap for the NHS on Thursday, we will also be clapping for all the carers and their families who continue to support our loved ones.

My mother was in care at Bandrum for around two and a half years and during that time she was not in the best of health.

The care and affection she received from every member of staff at Bandrum was fantastic and the whole family owes the key staff in the Hilltop wing and many others who cared for

mum so much gratitude.
Absolute stars!

The family were always made to feel so welcome by the staff during visiting times and we will not forget what they did for us at a difficult time.

My father-in-law had Dementia and the staff looked after him for 6 months until his death. They knew him as an individual and took great care of him. They kept us informed of any issues and were a great support both when he was hospitalised briefly and at the end when he passed away. We are extremely
grateful to them.
The home is not as plush as many can be but the standard and individuality of the care cannot be faulted.

My lovely mum moved to Bandrum in August 2018. After a rapid decline in her health we had been through a very rough few months in which looking at nursing homes was a stressful time. Walking into Bandrum was like a breath of fresh air. The care that Mum received from the minute she arrived was second
to none.
After four months in hospital it was like she had moved home and she was so happy. She settled in very quickly and we all began to feel like part of the family. Sadly Mum's health continued to decline and she passed away. How she was looked after in her final days was so comforting. She was warm, comfy in her beautiful room, the staff ensured that all her needs were met. They maintained her dignity until the very end.
The staff are an absolute credit to the nursing home; they should all be very proud of what they do. I feel like some of the staff went over and above for Mum. We would recommend to anyone looking for their loved ones. We really feel it’s head and shoulders above the rest.

Our mother/mother-in-law was a resident in Hilltop at Bandrum Nursing Home for just over a year. All staff were dedicated, compassionate, firm but fair and very, very patient with Mum.
They considered and listened to Mum's wishes at all times, fitting into a routine that Mum could cope with.
Nursing
care was exemplary. Mum was well dressed, clean and her appearance considerably improved compared to when she lived on her own.
Staff were very helpful and polite to family and visitors, respecting that Mum's room was her 'home' and during her last days and immediately after, they were discrete but helpful. The family very much appreciated that a number of the staff attended Mum's funeral.
Overall, we were very impressed with Hilltop, Bandrum, the facility and its staff.

Mum has been in Bandrum Nursing Home now for almost two years and she is on the whole, well looked after. She almost always looks well dressed and cared for. cleaners are an excellent bunch of ladies and the unit is normally spotless. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bandrum to others.

My sister, age 86, has been resident in Bandrum for 16 months. She settled in well and is well looked after. Members of staff spend time with her, one to one, quite often. Now that she is very confused and unable to communicate very much I would appreciate knowing more about the activities she has been
able to take part in or what is planned. I visit twice a week and try to share memories from her photos album or information about family and friends.

Bandrum is a multifunctional home providing a high standard of services to residents with physical and mental issues. My mother has been at Bandrum for over 2 1/2 years and I feel that she is in a safe environment with caring and responsible staff to look after her. The home provides opportunities for
the residents to go on 'field trips' throughout the year as well as arranging 'in-house' activities including tea dances, musical events, bingo and domino sessions. The staff and management are very approachable and are willing to listen to issues or concerns raised.

My son entered Bandrum in September 2016. He suffers from genetic Alzheimers. As his condition deteriorated it was necessary to move to the dementia unit.
Here his care is excellent. Every carer is committed to their job and the bonds he has made with each one is amazing. They always contact us if
anything untoward happens to him. He is kept clean which was his personal preference. The care given to him is second to none.

My gran recently passed away in Meadowview, she was admitted in June 2016 when her dementia progressed and we were no longer able to care for her safely at home. We were instantly impressed with the professionalism and care provided by all the staff, she was always clean and tidy. She loved the vast
range of activities that were offered, especially the tea dance. Her mobility at times was poor but she was up for a dance as soon as the music start and it has given us some special memories. They also had a range of outings on offer which my gran attended and really enjoyed. The communal lounge and her room were always well presented.

When my gran was on palliative care she received the best care, from all the staff. They were very attentive during this hard time. They didn't only give my gran the care she required, they were a massive support to all the family. The care team within Meadowview day and night are all awesome, couldn't ever thank them enough.

My dad recently passed away in Meadowview at Bandrum Nursing Home. Dad went into Meadowview in February 2017 when Mum was no longer able to manage his dementia at home. From the moment Dad went into Meadowview we were immensely impressed with the professionalism of all staff in the unit. Dad was always
clean and tidy and we never detected any odours despite him being doubly incontinent. As a retired nurse, I am able to recognise the little things that make such a difference to someone's dignity such as being clean shaven, clean nails and having hair combed and I know dad would not have had that level of care and attention in hospital! Mum and I spent most of the last week of Dad's life sitting with him in the home and witnessed at first hand the amazing work all staff in Meadowview perform for all those in their care and their relatives. We owe such a debt of gratitude that Dad was fortunate enough to live out his remaining days in such an amazing nursing home.

My aunt received the highest standard of professional care from the first day she arrived at Hilltop, Bandrum, to the very end.
She enjoyed spending time with other residents and interacting with staff - nursing and support. She particularly benefitted from the holistic, person centred approach because
of her complex needs.
It was reassuring for the family to know her end of life care was managed with so much skill, experience and compassion. I will always be grateful that my aunt had quality of life during her time in Hilltop, Bandrum.

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.820 for Bandrum Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 128 Ratings = 4.82
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bandrum Nursing Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.6 = 0.625
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been at Bandrum for 6 years now and it has to be one of the best places I have ever worked.

A very friendly place with the most helpful staff in all areas.
Of course, the residents make it a joy to come in every day and interact with them so nice.

Our care staff are exceptional and the standards of care are high.

Would definitely recommend Bandrum Nursing Home.

Job Title: Managing Director Joined: 2002

I have worked at Bandrum since leaving university, where I completed a business degree.

I came into the family business and haven't looked back. There is nothing more rewarding than helping people get more out of life through care and meaningful engagement. I enjoy seeing the residents and staff every day and knowing that we make a difference.

It is hard work, but worth it. I am also the chair for the Fife branch of Care Providers and do what I can to support the other care providers and make Fife the best place to provide (and receive) care services

More recently, I have joined Scottish Care as an Executive Director and look forward to working with them, representing Care across Scotland
