Overview

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for The Beeches Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 25 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Beeches Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.45 for The Beeches Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (119 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 298 Ratings = 4.45

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Beeches Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 9 Reviews ÷ 8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.5 The Beeches Care Home has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.450) from 25 Reviews

I have observed a high level of care and of stimulating, accessible activities, for example, Zumba gold, Burns supper. My uncle visits my aunt, his wife, every single day and is made to feel included and valued. My aunt is treated like a human being whose opinion and contribution to the community is important. There is great humanity shown.

My gran, unfortunately, could no longer be at home and needed 24-hour care. My mum and three aunts really struggled with the thought of putting her into a home but realised this was best for her. Couldn’t fault this place at all its like one big family!

I don't think I could have found a better place for my mum to spend her last year as she struggled with dementia.
The setting was lovely and all the staff were very friendly, caring and kind to everyone and treated all the residents with patience and respect.

I was very happy that my aunt decided to live in this care home. The staff were so caring and professional. The home was always clean and smelled fresh (unlike some I had visited). Meals were prepared on site so were fresh and nutritious. My aunt has always enjoyed going out and she continued to do so, thanks to the large garden and was able to go further afield in the home's minibus. Our whole family knew she was safe there and that all her needs were met.

Mum was only in The Beeches for a very short time but was made very comfortable and her last days were made as dignified as possible.
Staff were kind and very caring.
I only wish she could have had longer there to enjoy the company and security The Beeches offered.

My mother was in The Beeches for almost three years after previously being in a care home for seven years. I visited at least four tines a week, at different times of the day and never once found anything to complain about. The staff were always around and the atmosphere in the lounge was cosy and friendly, with visitors being treated as part of a family, by staff and residents alike.
My mother passed away recently at the age of 97 and was nursed by "Beeches" staff until the end with great care and love. When asked how she felt about the home, my mother always said, "this is a good place". I couldn't agree more.

I am very happy to give this review for The Beeches Care Home.
I feel the home is a perfect size, which ensures the residents are given excellent attention by the staff at all times. During my visits staff are always available for assistance if it is required. My relative has settled in better than I could have expected and this is due to the care and kindness shown to her during her stay.
The rooms and general areas are always kept clean and fresh. I must also mention the laundry facility and the care which is taken of the garments, belonging to all the residents by the staff involved.
Overall I feel the management and staff at The Beeches ensure high standards are maintained.

My father moved into this home in July 2016 as his health had deteriorated and his previous home couldn't cope anymore. Sadly, my dad passed in November 2016, but during this short time, the staff were fantastic with him, nothing was a problem, they couldn't do enough for my father and ourselves. They treated him with dignity, respect and kindness. It felt like a family.

During my mothers stay at The Beeches over the past 3 years, she was treated with respect and dignity, even at times when my mother could be extremely awkward.
Her last few days were made bearable with the kindness she was shown. After her death the staff were amazing and they helped me deal with all aspects of my mums funeral.

My mother has been in The Beeches for nearly a year now and although things have been difficult for us at times, the staff have been very supportive to us as a family throughout this time. They are always there if we need them for advice and help. They are very attentive to all the residents and there is a happy atmosphere at all times.

My aunt has been there for a few months now and the staff have been really supportive in helping her settle in, which for the first 6 weeks was extremely challenging for them.
My only gripe is there doesn't appear to be a lot of activities/entertainment on offer for stimulation.
Perhaps some knitting needles/crochet hooks etc, packs of cards or dominoes or puzzle books etc. left in view or placed on tables when they come back to the lounge.
Overall the level of care is good and my aunt has now settled in.

HC-One, Careline Team at The Beeches Care Home responded to this review on 11 Jan 2016:

We are pleased to hear that your aunt has settled well into The Beeches and that you have been happy with how supportive the staff have been.
We continually strive to improve our activities for residents within all of our homes and we always value comments regarding how we can improve our service. Indeed, due to feedback received we have recently started a knitting club in The Beeches. We will also look at providing other easy to use activities that you have suggested.

First impressions mean a lot to me and from my first visit until now, the staff have always been friendly, welcoming and open with answers to any questions I have had. Home is not too big either and is easy to navigate. Everyone has been very supportive and understands that this environment is new to the resident, and the family, so offer tips to help you get through things. Nothing is too much trouble, and any issues are addressed relatively quickly depending on what it is.

General maintenance for things like light bulbs could be dealt with more quickly though, as I had to ask three times for a bulb to be replaced in Mum's room. There is only one maintenance man who unfortunately has been off for a number of weeks so would be helpful if a 'relief' was available for these situations. There is a refurbishment plan in place with new carpets due for the upstairs lounge, along with redecoration of some main areas according to the recent newsletter. The home is well kept but is a little tired in some places which the refurb should address. This does not have an effect on the cleanliness of the home.

Rooms are good sized, with sturdy furniture and nicely decorated. Residents can personalise their room however they want. Each room is deep cleaned before a new resident moves in too. The ensuite is spacious but does not have a shower, however the bathrooms are very spacious with either a bath or wet room shower with all the appliances that are likely to be needed.

Home has their own minibus which was one of my reasons for choosing it, however it is unfortunate that there is only one volunteer driver who at time of writing this review, had been unable to take the residents on outings for quite a number of weeks. The Manager is very keen to get outings back on the agenda but getting another driver is quite a challenge. This is such a shame as the bus is sitting idle when many residents would love a wee trip to local garden centres, parks or theatres. I really hope this is addressed soon.

The daily menu is displayed in reception and sounds really appetising. Main meal is at lunch time with a lighter tea in the evening. Kitchen will accommodate special requests as far as possible, but it's worth keeping in mind that the menus are controlled from Head Office and not on site. There seems to be a lot of soup and sandwiches on offer for tea regularly, so would be good to hear that more choices are considered for this.

Overall I'm happy with The Beeches after Mum being here for two months.

HC-One, Careline Team at The Beeches Care Home responded to this review on 03 Dec 2015:

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. We are delighted that you are happy with the care your Mum has been receiving and that you are made to feel so welcome when you visit. As a company HC-One strive to provide adequate cover for all departments within the home including during periods of absence so that a quality service can be maintained. As part of this we also strive to ensure that appropriate activities are arranged for our Residents including regular outings. Unfortunately it has been difficult to recruit volunteer drivers therefore at present outings are limited but we are continuing to recruit to increase the number of outings.
