Dad moved into The Cowdray Club in January of this year, and from day one, we were all welcomed into the “Cowdray Family” and that is exactly how it feels, like a family. The manager and his amazing team did so much for Dad in his short time there as sadly Dad passed away on April 26th. My sister and
I were allowed to stay with Dad in his room, and the staff were so respectful and genuine with us during Dads final few days, nothing was too much bother, from the endless cups of tea to making a point to see us and their goodbyes to Dad if they were going to be off the next few days. When Dad passed away, the staff made sure the family were Ok while they saw to Dad, there really are no words to express our gratitude. We will genuinely miss visiting The Cowdray Club.

My mum was no longer able to stay safely in her own home, and I had to make the hardest decision to look for a residential care home for her. The Cowdray Club was the first care home I looked at, I had a lovely conversation over the phone with the care manager, he answered lots of questions I had, and
he also sent photos of a typical room. I think I knew then that when the time came for me to say yes, The Cowdray Club was going to be where my mum would move to and call home. My mum is very settled and loves being taken through to the lounge; I know she is safe and well looked after.
Everyone is lovely from the care manager who I know I can message at any time for reassurance or ask a question to, admin and all domestic staff who always say hello in the passing and to all the dedicated and lovely carers, who look after and keep my mum safe. Thank you for looking after my mum.

My mum had to go into residential care following the death of my dad. I was given the choice of two care homes, and I am so glad that I chose The Cowdray Club. It is run by a team of dedicated people whose primary role is the comfort and safety of its residents. I know that my mum is in good hands here

I did not want my dad to go into residential care. Unfortunately, Dads health got to the point where it was the only option. The help, care and support we have been given by the management and staff at The Cowdray Club have been out of this world. My dad has even laughed at something; he has not done
in a while. I don't feel like my dad is in a care home, he has joined an extended family, and I no longer feel guilty.

The most important aspect of a care home is simply caring: both in spirit and attitude, as well as technical professionalism. I can say that The Cowdray Club ticks all these boxes. The culture comes from the top, and the manager is infectiously cheery and positive, and genuinely caring. The staff are
too, and it is clear, that the workplace morale is excellent, and this spills over into the level of care given. I have witnessed genuine affection from carers to my mother. The manager has modern ideas and a can-do attitude (notable in these difficult covid times). The policy is very much to extend the care concept to openly include relatives. Despite being fresh and modern, there is a lovely dose of good old fashioned trust and openness. The premises and facilities also seem to be very good, and the food too.

My dad entered palliative care at The Cowdray Club, Aberdeen, as an emergency, for the last six weeks of his life. I am so glad that he was under the care of the wonderful manager and his team at this very difficult time in his life, and in extra difficult circumstances due to Covid restrictions. We
had reached a stage in Dad’s long illness when he could no longer cope and neither could the family and the gentle, loving care and support Dad and his family received is something I will forever be grateful for. I know that my Dad felt safe there and his care was very sensitively carried out. I was consulted in how that care should be and listened to with great attention, they really understood that I knew Dad better than anyone and allowed me to be his ‘voice’ when he could no longer manage, my requests were actioned, and quickly. When Dad passed away, the care continued, with great tenderness, and also great sensitivity to the handling of Dad’s belongings when we collected them.

My Mother and Father are currently in a companion room. The timing of their entry couldn’t have been more opportunistic as it was days before the original lockdown last March 2020. I’d gone from full carer to handing my wonderful parents into a home that I couldn’t access, so you can imagine my concern.
I soon came to realise there was no concern and that my lovely parents were happy and being very well looked after. My parents are frail and both have dementia, but are strong in character and love and enjoy their new home, love the food... compliments to the chef, and enjoy the company of the staff that pop in and out all day. The care manager is a special man that is the glue cementing the staff together and runs an extremely efficient ship. He has many ideas that involve the staff and residents interacting, like Valentine’s fuss for couples and so many more. He has included the relatives to the best of his ability, and I feel like one of the family.
