Tor-na-Dee has, over the past 10 years, provided my mother with nothing but first-class care. All staff, from the manager to the nurses and carers, are always very professional and always take the time to go the extra mile to ensure my mother is happy and comfortable.

Cannot fault any aspects of the care or facilities at Tor-Na-Dee. Importantly, there are always plenty of carers on duty who, in my experience, are very attentive and personal towards the residents. Communication from management is frequent and decisions made are in the best interests of the residents.

I have been impressed, above all, with the attitude of all the staff I have interacted with in the period (over a year now) my mother has been a resident in Tor-na-Dee. It's unfair to single any out, but the nurses on the staff exemplify the way that the individual needs of each resident are taken into
consideration and with their excellent working relationship with the local GP practice it means I am sure my mother is as safe and as happy in Tor-na-Dee as she could be anywhere.
I am aware that the period of the pandemic meant a reduction in the activities which would have been organised for residents, but I have appreciated that the staff have managed to keep residents active and engaged in spite of the restrictions.
The recent Covid outbreak in the home is not a reason for criticism of Tor-na-Dee, but the opposite. Covid is still circulating outside and the fact the outbreak was brought under control so quickly shows that the protocols in place are working.

Excellent. My mother was quite unwell when she came to Tor-na-Dee over a year ago. She has also had a few periods which have caused the family worry. At all times her nursing care was exemplary. The GP who works with Tor-na-Dee is not only kind and attentive to her, but is also happy to explain her
illness to the family. The manager runs a happy, tight ship - she frequently has her door open so families can talk to her. The staff are observant kind and caring and treat my mother with respect. I thoroughly recommend Tor-na-Dee and thank everyone concerned.

My mother has been a resident of Tor-Na-Dee for about 14 months. From day one I have been more than happy with the care she receives.
The staff are, without exception, kind and friendly and never fail to say hello when I meet them during visits, even if I am just walking past them in the corridor.
They also let me know, by telephone, of any concerns or incidents and let me know if there is anything Mum needs me to get for her.
Medical care, when necessary, is quickly provided.
Mum chooses not to participate in activities, but I see her regularly and she is content.
As a relative, and next of kin, I receive regular communications from the manager updating me on anything which I need to be aware of. I know that regular meetings with relatives are held. I cannot attend as my wife is disabled and I am her main carer, but I am provided with a copy of the minutes.
Perhaps most importantly, I have complete peace of mind with regard to the care my mother is receiving.

In general, we have had a good experience since my father moved in, in October 2021. The staff are very nice and responsive to any requests we have.
The room is clean and well-maintained.
Food and drink are plentiful, not always to Dad's taste but the staff have taken this on board and he has the
opportunity to change if not to his taste.
He took some time to settle in but seems happy with the care he receives.
Communication is very good and I am kept updated if anything changes to Dad's condition.

My mum was in residential care but sadly her condition deteriorated and she required dementia unit care. From the first telephone call to her now, new permanent home I have been so so fortunate to have been helped by the team at Tor-na-Dee. You are great. My mum is well cared for in all aspects. Thank
you all.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff at Tor-na-Dee for the care and compassion they have afforded Mum in her 3 years as a resident. It has been hard for many reasons, not least the pandemic, but where possible, it looks like Mum is well looked after and most importantly to us, she
is safe.
Throughout the time, the manager and all of her team have worked to keep all relatives and relevant persons informed on what, when and why various measures have been in place.
Thank you from all of us.

The staff look after our aunt wonderfully and cope with her dementia and all the peculiarities that can bring, in a very gentle but sensitive manner. My sister and I feel that we could approach any of the staff to ask for help or advice on my aunt's care.

I couldn't have found a better place for our mum. Tor-Na-Dee takes such good care of Mum. The home is clean and smells fresh. The nursing and care staff are wonderful, kind and caring and take the very best care of Mum. Excellent communication with family and they use empathy, humour, professionalism
and sensitivity in their care of Mum. Wonderful activities and inclusive care. 10/10! All visitors to Mum comment on what a friendly, homely and clean nursing home Tor-Na-Dee is.

My husband has been in Tor-na-Dee for six years now and I am extremely happy with the love and care he receives. I feel confident that each time I visit I find him clean, smart and very well cared for. I feel that the unit provides a very homely, loving atmosphere which I feel very comfortable in while
visiting. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to include me in the 'family' atmosphere. I feel very lucky that my husband is being cared for by Tor-na-Dee.

I am very grateful for my stepfather to be in this excellent care home, the peace of mind that comes with the knowledge that a relative is being cared for properly and with kindness is invaluable. All members of staff I have dealt with have been extremely helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending

The care given at Tor-na-Dee is excellent! The resident is supported by staff who are happy and pass that joy on to the resident as they care for them. The communication between staff and myself always informs me of any health changes, medical concerns and the purpose of doctor visits. This is a home
that is very well managed and is to be commended for its family atmosphere and attention to details that matter.

The treatment and care of Dad are good. Although having to operate within Covid guidelines, which have proved hard for him to appreciate. Communication from the care home is excellent. Staff are understandable of Dads nature despite him often being difficult. The constraints of Covid have been difficult
for all limiting visits and outings etc. Overall very happy with the care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.728)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.728) out of 10 for Tor-na-Dee is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.778 for Tor-na-Dee is calculated as follows: ( (169 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 212 Ratings = 4.778
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tor-na-Dee is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’ve been a registered nurse for more than a decade, mainly working with older people.

I chose to join Care UK because the organisation’s values match my own. There is also ongoing training, and we receive great support from the wider team.

One of the most important aspects of my role is to ensure everyone is safe and happy. It is wonderfully rewarding to see the positive difference the team here makes, enabling residents to live a fulfilling life.

As a home manager, it is important to be able to bring the team together and empower colleagues. Seeing a well-run team deliver the best possible care with a smile and seeing colleagues enjoying their roles makes me so proud of what I do. A big part of that means you need to have patience, empathy and kindness in this role; a good sense of humour helps too.

In 2024, we were recognised as the region of the year. For me and my colleagues, this was an incredible highlight.

Outside of work, I’m an enthusiastic scuba diver and have been lucky enough to dive in some amazing places; the Silfra tectonic plates are on my list to visit. I also have rescue dogs and help fund raise for various rescue charities.
