What has stood out most is how quickly the team got to know Dad as a person, understanding his individual needs and personality in a very short time.

This has given us great reassurance and confidence in the care being provided. Communication has been excellent - regular, clear and always delivered at the right level for our family. Staff are approachable, compassionate and willing to discuss any concerns or updates promptly. It is never easy placing a loved one into care, but the support and professionalism shown by everyone at the home has made a very difficult time much easier for us all. We would definitely recommend this home to others looking for caring and professional support for a loved one.

My Mum has been resident in Auchtercrag for over a year. She loves her room and frequently comments how she likes being able to see the garden. Care staff work hard to help Mum integrate though she'd rather stay in her room and isn't keen on joining activities. She does enjoy the regular Therapet visits. Cleaning and laundry staff are to be commended. It's a great help that a dentist can see Mum at the home and that hairdressing services are provided in-house. Nursing staff are attentive towards Mum's health issues. All staff work very hard to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere at Auchtercrag.

My mother is extremely happy in Auchtercrag Care home. She says she recommends it to anyone including me as a super homely place to live. She has plenty of friends, activities and I am kept very well informed about her health and well being.
The staff do their best for her despite her reluctance to accept personal care but they keep trying and are good tempered and positive despite these draw backs.
She seems very well fed and has a lovely room which she is proud of.
The team always phone me with any concerns at all and they seem very fond of my Mum.

I always am greeted by staff in a very friendly fashion and my Mum has everything she needs.

Since mum went to live at Auchtercrag 9 months ago she has thrived under the care of the staff involved with her. She tells us there is "nowhere she would rather be" which is indeed the highest of compliments. The home is always welcoming, is kept beautifully, food is very appealing and staff interact well with residents. Staff contact me quickly with any concerns and I feel that mum is treated as an individual in the home. Very happy to recommend to any potential residents and families.

Information about my husband is not volunteered when visiting. I have to try to find a person in charge, sometimes difficult and ask if I have concerns about his well-being. The carers are very friendly and presently the staffing seems to be more constant. However, the carers are not usually able to answer any concerns I might have. An example of this could be as to why he hasn't had special cream put on the dry skin on his face. I visit for 2 hours in the afternoon and am often frustrated, not being able to find the person in charge. They are often over at the main house rather than The Lodge. The lodge is an 8-bed unit, and when my husband was admitted in August 2022, I was told that the unit was autonomous with full staffing.

Both my parents are being cared for in Auchtercrag, both with different needs in care, however, they are able with support to still be together as they wish whilst both having the individual care they require. The staff have shown a great deal of care to support them with their wishes and will go out of their way to support them in this. During their time in the home, both my parents have enjoyed and benefitted from joining in some of the activities that are provided, even returning to an old hobby thought forgotten.

I feel now after 4 years of Mum being in care in Auchtercrag that I am truly happy with the care and well-being of Mum I have got to.
Know the staff caring for Mum and my wishes for Mum are always carried out. Mum is always clean, tidy and beautiful as she always was before her illness. The food is very good and plentiful and there are always tea coffee biscuits and cakes. The activities in a care home are always very difficult to accommodate everyone but again that has improved immensely. I enjoy singing so I plan my visit to Mum on the day of the sing-along so I can join in

I would have no hesitation now in recommending anyone who needs care to visit Auchtercrag.

My mother has been in Auchtercrag for a few years now and overall has been well looked after. She is a bit of a loner due to the Covid pandemic and the staff have tried their hardest to include her in everything they do. They also keep me informed as to what is happening ie any little incident and that is appreciated so I can inform my siblings. Would recommend this home.

Julie-Anne Thomson
Julie-Anne ThomsonJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 2012

Since joining Meallmore in 2012 as a carer, I’ve been fortunate to grow my career within a company that truly values and supports its people. I’m proud to now lead the wonderful team at Auchtercrag House, having recently moved from St Modans, bringing with me years of experience and a deep passion for person-centred care.

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to listening – to our residents and their families – so we can understand their wishes and deliver the highest quality, individualised care.

I strongly believe in leading by example, and one of my top priorities is ensuring our team feels supported, especially when it comes to learning and development. When our staff thrive, so do our residents.

Auchtercrag House has been thoughtfully designed to feel like home, with a beautiful environment that offers both comfort and security. We’re especially proud of our dedicated dementia care unit, where residents living with dementia receive care that is truly tailored to their needs in a calm, familiar setting.

We’re closely connected to our local community and work hand-in-hand with healthcare professionals to ensure we’re always providing safe, up-to-date, and confident care. Many of our team are local too, which brings a real sense of belonging and togetherness to life at Auchtercrag.

Above all, we want residents to feel at home - to live well, stay connected, and keep doing the things they love. Whether it’s enjoying a hobby, joining in on an activity, or simply sharing a laugh with our staff, life here is about making every day as meaningful and joyful as it can be.

We’d be delighted to welcome you into the Auchtercrag family.

I am currently serving as the deputy manager here at Auchtercrag, where I am tasked with driving operational excellence and delivering impactful results. With over 7 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, I have developed a deep understanding of strategic management, team leadership and clinical oversight. My professional journey began after completing my Bachelor of Science degree from The University of the West Indies Mona in Jamaica, which laid the foundation for my career in General nursing, such as older adults and emergency nursing. Over the years, I have had various experiences that have allowed me to refine my skills, particularly in assessment, critical clinical decision-making, and coordinating nursing palliative care. Two of my best attributes are: recognising any changes/concerns in residents’ health and escalating accordingly. As well as my communication amongst residents, families, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team.

It is hoped that I will support the team in delivering person-centred care, ensuring there is clinical, operational oversight and ensuring our residents and staff perform against the quality indicators framework while living the value of Meallmore.
