Sometimes if you ask a staff member something to do with your relative, it doesn’t always get followed up on or messages passed on. But I do find all the staff polite and friendly, whether it’s the cleaners or the kitchen staff. I think the staff do the best they can under the circumstances, eg. COVID, which can put added pressure on everyone. I hope in the future my relative will get taken out more and take part in more activities.

My father suffers from dementia and has lived in St Olafs for six months now. His condition has improved markedly since admission and he seems relaxed and content. The care workers we have met on our regular visits have all been courteous, helpful and professional. The facility is always clean, well-organized and Covid-compliant.

He recently turned 94, and the staff laid out a lovely afternoon tea service for all of us, that we were able to complement with cake and candles. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and even regaled us with some of his favourite songs!

I find that sometimes I go visit my relative and they are just sitting in a room all by themself. Also, I think the staff are very helpful, always chatting and friendly very approachable. Sometimes things happen and we are not told about them straight away which I find annoying

This home is always kept clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and willing to help. Would recommend to anyone looking for care. Rooms are nice, own shower room, nice views overlooking well-kept gardens. My dad has been in almost 5-months now and seems very settled. He’s got plenty of room for him to walk about or if he wants to sit in a quiet area or main sitting area gives him so much choice.

Visiting my mum today, this care home is as clean as usual, immaculate with no odour you would never know that this is a care home for the elderly. Staff are pleasant and welcoming while enforcing rules due to Covid.
Staff are always friendly to visitors and residents, and I can tell this is the normal way my mother interacts with staff. She feels loved, which is important to someone with dementia as well as a good routine.

Well done, St Olaf.

Review from Ed P (Husband of Resident) published on 11 March 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My wife has been a resident in St Olafs since mid-December 2020. Due to the circumstances of our situation at the time and the prevailing Covid pandemic, I was unable to research care homes prior to her moving into a care home. It was, therefore, a major concern to myself as to the standard of St Olafs. For the first two and a half months, I was only able to have window visits with my wife, so was unable to gauge the standard of care or get to know the staff. However, once the home opened up and I was able to properly visit my wife, I was immediately put at ease by the approachable and friendly staff and the standard of care given to my wife, especially given the difficult circumstances of her condition. It takes quite a bit of worry and stresses off myself that she is being so well looked after and cared for. I would like to take this opportunity to pass on my gratitude to everyone involved with the care of my wife.

My relative is always singing the praises of the home and all the staff, and I have to agree. The staff are accessible and very committed, caring and consistently show respect to my father. This gives reassurance that he is well looked after and his needs are being met. This has been the case over the two years of residency. The cleanliness and friendliness of the residency add positively to the ambience. I look forward to reinstating regular hair-cuts and podiatrist care with the easing of Covid-19 related restrictions. I am especially glad to be able to resume regular visits to my father.

My dealings with the majority of staff have been positive. On the whole, they try very hard to accommodate care and routine requests. Although sometimes the home routine gets in the way, my mother is well cared for and mostly happy. Communication unfortunately can be a bit hit and miss. I have no issues with my mothers care, although sometimes her wait to return to bed can be longer than she'd like.

After a very difficult year due to COVID. We recently had the opportunity to move my mother-in-law to St Olaf Care Home. We wanted her to be nearer home in the hope that visiting would soon become easier. From the word go, the managers were very supportive, sensitive and understanding of the situation. The transition has gone very smoothly, we have felt included every step of the way, and Mum’s health and welfare have been at the centre of all decisions. We are particularly impressed with the attention and care given to ensure she is well presented and appropriately dressed. On her arrival, the carers involved were very quick to pick up on the fact that new clothing was required, and helped us resolve the situation very quickly. We felt then that Mum would be treated with respect and dignity at all times. The staff have all been approachable and friendly, and we are in no doubt that the very difficult decision to move Mum from a home, she knew, was the right one.

Reply from Anne Mawdsley, Area Manager at St Olaf Care Home

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete a review of our home. We are aware that moving a family member into a care home is always a difficult decision, so it's heart-warming to hear that the transition into the care home went smoothly for the family and your mother-in-law.

A very kind and friendly care home but also with the highest professional standards. Very good links to local GP, mental health and dental services. I am always made to feel welcome and there are always plenty of staff on duty who take the time to discuss any concerns I might have.
