My husband has complex needs, both physical and mental. My review relates to his care which is excellent, given his often challenging behaviour. The staff go above and beyond in trying to include him in day-to-day activities.
They also are hugely supportive towards myself, and I value this very much.
I am able to talk to staff about my difficulties in coping with his behaviours. It really is a family where everyone is supported by those who work tirelessly to improve the well-being of the residents. I am so glad that my husband is in this home!

Very happy with the staff and the level of care given to my mum. The staff take the time to get to know their residents which helps to identify any changes in behaviour which can lead to catching minor or potentially major health issues. They always keep Mum happy and well looked after. Always very
friendly and helpful to the relatives of their residents also. Overall, very happy with Blackfaulds House Nursing Home.

My mother-in-law has dementia and has stayed here for five years. The manager and all the staff are amazing with her, talking or singing with her, making sure she is happy and helping her to eat well at meal times.
Her room has been recently decorated and is homely with family photos, her chair, TV
and personal things. She has her own en-suite bathroom with a shower. The cleaner and the laundry lady speak to her when they come into her room. They make sure her room is clean and tidy. Her clothes are washed & ironed and put away.
The activity coordinator and all the staff make sure there are lots of entertainment provided on a daily basis. Arts & crafts, cooking, baking, gardening, bingo, singing, ball games and entertainers such as singers visit the home on a regular basis.
A hairdresser comes in monthly to cut her hair and the staff paint her nails. My mother-in-law is always clean and well-dressed. She is very happy and feels safe at Blackfaulds Nursing Home.

I am so grateful that my mum was given a place at Blackfaulds. The care she receives is excellent and the staff are like family both to her and us. She is so well cared for and her every need taken care of. She has always been cared for with great dignity and love and now that she is reaching her final
days, this is more apparent than ever. We will never be able to thank the staff enough.
Communication is excellent, food, service, care of her clothes and cleaning are all first class and there is a great sense of community. Thank you to all the staff.

My dad has been a resident for over two years. The care provided has been exceptional. It is a great comfort to know that my dad is safe, well cared for and in an environment where staff clearly do their best for those they care for. My dad has been in Blackfaulds since last year and his needs are complex, having been diagnosed with MS and dementia. He is bed bound, unfortunately, but the team at Blackfaulds always include him in activities. They are patient, caring and work so hard to provide an excellent standard of care to all
residents. The home is very safe and friendly and I feel like my dad is treated as a person, not just a number. It has made the past few months much more bearable knowing he is being so well looked after.

My mum has been cared for in Blackfaulds since April 2021, and the care she has been given is frankly sublime. The staff operates as a great team who work tirelessly to provide support, empathy, stimulation and respect to the residents. The management and staff treated Mum like she was a part of their
family. The residents are treated to a varied programme of activities that residents fully enjoy. I can't thank this wonderful group of care superstars enough.

My mother-in-law has been cared for in Blackfaulds since November 2021. The care she receives and has been receiving is second to none. The care is exceptional and our family have seen her thrive in this environment. The home manager and her team are great to work with and take our requests into consideration
each and every time! The activities coordinator is amazing and the facilities manager works tirelessly to ensure all areas are comfortable for each resident and their rooms. We can be assured that our relative is in very capable and safe hands.

Having had my dad in care at Blackfaulds for over five years, I can confirm that all the staff - the cooks/kitchen staff, cleaners, carers, nurses and the maintenance staff have all had my dad's best interest at heart. Every one of them has gone above and beyond for him and us, as a family. These guys
became our second family and even on the bad days, they always managed to keep him (and us) smiling. Team Blackfaulds, we will be forever grateful to each and every one of you!

My mother has dementia and has been in this care home for nine months. The care and support have been exceptional from all of the staff. I visit regularly and have witnessed the personal touch from staff and can only conclude from their varied verbal comments that they know my mother well. They regularly
tell me family stories that can only have come from my mother, showing that they have spent quality time with her. There has been immediate contact from either the nurse in charge or the manager to make me aware of the slightest change in my mother's situation ie, UTIs and doctor visits and bruising due to a fall. My mother has her hair washed weekly and styled every two weeks. Visiting opticians tested her eyesight and recommended a change in her distance glasses, but not reading glasses. Also, the visiting Chiropodist looks after her feet. There is a wide range of activities organised, and it is very reassuring to see the care home pictures on the private site, showing the involvement of residents.

The staff at this nursing home are what made me try to get my mother-in-law a place there.
My mother-in-law never wanted to stay in a nursing home, but soon after getting a residence there, she tells me that she loves the home. She has a very nice room, which catches a lot of the sun, and she is very
happy that she can control the temperature in her room, which means that it is always very hot. At times, it would appear that my mother-in-law thinks that she is living in a hotel. The staff have endless patience and put a lot of work into creating events for the residents. You can be confident that the residents are safe and well cared for there.

If I ever end up in a care home, this is the place I'd like to be. They've looked after my mother with unbelievable care and dignity. Every member of staff is approachable, professional and has empathy for those under their care.
My mother had been in other care homes where her health and mental well-being
visibility deteriorated in front of our eyes due to poor care and neglect. Thankfully, her move to Blackfaulds brought her back up again and, I'm absolutely convinced, has slowed down the progress of her dementia.
There's a great activity coordinator who keeps all the residents stimulated with a full program of activities and events. Singers and entertainment are also a regular occurrence.
All care homes could learn from Blackfaulds!

My nana took a stroke in 2017, which left her requiring 24/7 care due to loss of mobility. The staff provided a loving family environment with the most outstanding care. The whole staff team always had her looking her best, and there were always activities/experiences on offer to her. Her views were
always listened to, and her needs were met. The pandemic was a difficult time and the most worrying for all of us, however, the staff kept my nana safe, Covid free and had a variety of methods for us to maintain contact with her. We, as a family, received regular updates regarding my nana and were always consulted on every aspect of her care. The staff are very friendly, approachable and have so much passion for their line of work. We, as a family, cannot thank all the staff at Blackfaulds enough for the quality of care that my nana received. This is an outstanding care home with a dedicated staff team.

My dad has been a resident at Blackfaulds for almost five years. In that time, the home has been improved greatly by the owner(funding renovations), the management and all the staff. The indoor and outdoor spaces are warm, welcoming and fit for purpose. The level of care given to each resident is outstanding;
every carer will spend that wee bit extra time ensuring that Dad is okay and that all his needs are met. They are often that ear to listen to or shoulder to cry on when things are too much for you and reassure you that Dad is doing okay without sugar-coating the inevitable outcome. We are all treated as part of the Blackfauld family with no exceptions and always welcomed with a smile. I would recommend Blackfaulds to anyone who is having to place a loved one into care.

I am extremely happy with the care my mother is receiving from all the staff. Nothing is a bother to them. My mum's health has come on leaps and bounds since being in the home due to the care given by the friendly staff. She loves her bright, airy room with a view of the garden and the horse fields
beyond. It's nice to have peace of mind that my mum is being well looked after in a clean and safe environment and that she is happy and enjoys living in the home. All her medical needs are taken care of. The staff are all brilliant, friendly and very patient. The social activities and events are very well organised and enjoyed by everyone. I would recommend this home to anyone having to consider putting a loved one into care.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.966)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.966) out of 10 for Blackfaulds House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.966 for Blackfaulds House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (311 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 322 Ratings = 4.966
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blackfaulds House Nursing Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
