A stunning listed building with period features, Camilla House is a beautiful home. But it’s the team, several of whom have been with the home for over 10 years, which make it really special.

Passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, they organise so many wonderful activities and experiences for them to enjoy. From rides around Edinburgh on a trishaw and animal therapy visits, to baking and pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages.

The local community are embraced into life at Camilla House. Children from the local nursery and dance school are regular visitors, as are community fitness instructors, who run gentle exercise sessions.

The residents love to hear performances from the local dementia choir and enjoy regular church services in the home, as well as attending the church’s friendship café. Every week the mobile hairdresser visits the home’s salon, for appointments with the residents. There are also regular visits from the chiropodist and optician, as well as weekly GP visits.

And there are trips galore in the home’s minibus, from the cinema, theatres and playhouse, to the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the local bird centre, Portobello Beach and trips on the Rathro Barge and Queen’s Ferry.

Mealtimes are a highlight of the day with the home’s award-winning chef, who has been with Camilla House for over 10 years and has won several awards in Sanctuary Care’s MasterChef competition. The residents enjoy delicious, traditional home-cooked meals, with freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. This summer they have enjoyed growing their own produce in the home’s secure garden, which they harvested to use in the kitchen.

With bay windows and high ceilings, the lounges and dining rooms are beautiful, light and airy spaces to relax and spend time with loved ones. There is also a conservatory, which can be used for family celebrations and private dining.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
The home is very clean and staff are very friendly. The home has a 'homely' feel and we are very pleased with the care dad receives. The home keeps us well informed and it's great having open visiting. Dad is treated with dignity and respect which means so much to us.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.706) out of 10 for Camilla House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.931 for Camilla House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (123 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 131 Ratings = 4.931
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Camilla House Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I love my job, as I get great satisfaction from seeing the residents enjoying my food. And I love to know that I am making their day that little bit special by involving them in activities like cake decoration and cookie making.
