Review from Joyce B (Sister of Resident) published on 6 August 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My brother was admitted suffering the latter stages of vascular dementia. Sadly the home had to deal with his wife using power of attorney to deny his family phone calls or visits, this was a very difficult scenario for the home to handle. Staff were given abuse on the phone and could not pass information to us. This they handed so well with compassion for us, although his condition was deteriorating he was given such care, treating him with respect and gentleness with his outbursts, we were allowed to visit near the end, and saw for ourselves the wonderful care he was given with dignity thank you all so much.

Hi Joyce, Thank you for your review. Our staff always have the resident as their main focus and work very hard to support all family and loved one's. This can be difficult but we try very hard to find ways for all who care to be involved.

My Dad has been in St Raphael's for a couple of years now and has been very well looked after throughout this time.

The staff know him well and have cared for him through some recent episodes of delirium very effectively.

He needs help with all personal care now but is always smartly dressed and clean and tidy.

Thank you for your review. The staff team work hard to get to know the residents as individuals and plan their support around their personal preferences. The staff very much appreciate the support you give home.

St Raphael's has been a warm & welcoming new home for me and I greatly appreciate their care. There is a wide range of activites including regular outings staff are always kind and helpful. The food service is transitioning from an in house chef to bought in prepare meals for lunch & dinner. There are teething issues - portion size (too small), lack of variety on menu and short notice changes. However, the team are engaging with residents to improve issues.

Reply from Jeannie Garing, Care Home Manager at St Raphael's

Thank you for your supportive review. The staff strive to make sure that new residents are made to feel welcome and well cared for. It is good to hear that you are enjoying the social activities and outings. We will continue to engage with the residents as we transition to the new food delivery service to ensure it meets the high standards you all deserve.

My sister developed early onset dementia and moved into St Raphaels in 2015. The level of loving care she was provided with exceeded anything I could have wished for. She was initially living in the specialist dementia wing, where the staff fully understood her condition and treated her with dignity and understanding. As her condition worsened she moved into the main house where she has lived for the last five years. Not once has she experienced any bed sores despite being bed ridden for the last few years. I can not thank the nursing staff enough for what this means for Chris and her family.

Daughter-in-Law: St. Raphael's has a very strong art program. The program runs Tues, Wed, Thurs by a capable and patient staff. The teachers meet the residents whatever their skill level. They are very experienced and change tactics to best assist the resident. I think this program is unique and helps keep residents mentally active.

Mum moved to St Raphael's in 2023. She had advanced dementia and was treated with dignity and respect. The activity coordinators and staff made sure that she was stimulated and her interests met. She was a regular visitor of the cafe where the staff were extremely welcoming. She enjoyed the musical activities offered and outings. During her palliative care, the staff were amazing. They were kind and caring, spending time with mum and the family, making sure mum was comfortable and we were supported. St Raphael's has an excellent management team who know their residents and have regular meetings with relation to keep them informed and to ensure they offer a high level of care. I highly recommend St Raphael's

I would highly recommend St Raphael's Nursing Home. Up till just recently, my relative was being cared for by the staff in the Rutland unit who absolutely went above and beyond to care for her needs which they carried out 110% with the utmost care, respect, compassion and professionalism. I will never forget the comfort and support they all showed me personally and how well they took care of my relative throughout her time there. I will never forget what they did not only for my relative but for me through her palliative care they were a huge comfort to me and showed both of us such love and care. Thank you so much you will all have a special place in my heart for what you have done.

My aunt moved to St Raphael's 6 months ago. We had looked at St Raphael's a number of times but she declined to go. Deputy Manager very patient and understanding through these many visits. Finally, last October, Deputy Manager found us a perfect room and in a few days my aunt moved in. We were greeted by a lovely, friendly nurse who handles intake, she immediately put my aunt at ease. I live quite some distance and every time I phone my aunt is pleased. Staff have been communicative when issues have arisen (falls, new meds, etc.) which has been comforting. All staff have been pleasant, welcoming, professional and friendly. Couldn't be happier.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. Finding a suitable care home that both the person in care and family agrees to is not an easy journey. I am delighted to hear that staff at St R made this easy and they continue to do so. This feedback will be shared with the staff.

Review from Linda E (Guardian of Resident) published on 15 April 2024 Submitted via Postal Card

I chose St Raphael's for the friend I am guardian for as I had had excellent care for my aunt and my mother, over a period of eight years (2014-2022). My friend has autism, is completely deaf and has mobility issues - she is treated with respect and dignity, has her taste in clothing and menu choices completely indulged and, most importantly, is treated as an individual. I am thrilled to see carers and entertainment staff interact with her, bringing out her sense of fun and making her feel valid. I owe St Raphael's and all its staff and management a huge debt of gratitude.

My father has been cared for at St Raphael's for the past three and a half years. The care he receives is superb - he is treated respectfully, kindly and with love. The team of nurses and carers who look after him do the most amazing job. It gives me great reassurance that he is so well cared for.

My wife has been a resident since June 2023. She has Parkinson's and has lost her mobility. The care in St Raphael's is exceptional as is the range of activities and entertainment provision provided. There is a good staff to resident ratio and the accommodation is well suited to my wife's circumstances and needs. The home is set in a leafy residential area which adds to the generally positive atmosphere. Meals are interesting and varied.

My relative in care at St Raphael's was very independent and reluctant to move into a care home. At the start, she resisted and complained. The staff were understanding and patient. After a few weeks, she settled very well and is now full of praise for the kindness of staff and the comfort of the home. It has taken a huge load off our shoulders - we know she is safe, secure, respected and well cared for.

My mother moved to St Raphael's in June 2023, she was already very frail and immobile. The nurses and care staff were kind and went to great lengths to get to know her, her likes and dislikes and to make sure she was comfortable. They were also good at keeping her family informed either in person or via the portal. We were confident in the staff skill set and were able to relax and enjoy our visits to Mum. A really supportive and caring environment was created by all working there.
