I want to write this review so that people are aware that Oakview Manor, for my mother, who was a resident, myself and my daughter was about as bad an experience as you could get. I have rated it one star because of the upset and distress caused. My mother died in Oakview and the treatment during the last two weeks was horrific, including senior staff trying to administer morphine by mouth, when for nearly 2 days my mother was nil by mouth and had a cannula in her leg for administering morphine. This type of thing is repeated when it comes to personal care, administration of medicine, fluid intake, personal hygiene and dignity. After I complained to the Care Inspectorate and the home, a team of senior people were installed and I have been made aware that some senior care staff and management are no longer there. Ultimately, the Care Inspectorate upheld no less than 17 of my complaints and you can see all the failures on their website. I sincerely hope there is dramatic improvement.

Overall Experience

My father was a resident at Oakview Manor for the final 2 months of his life. He had dementia and had been in and out of 6 other care homes or hospitals. Oakview was by far the best care home. The staff without exception were very caring and attended to his needs at all times. His room was always clean and tidy and he enjoyed the food on offer. His bad skin condition improved significantly as he was bathed daily and lotions regularly applied. Although he had lost interest in most activities, the activities staff made a great effort to try to engage with him and got some response. In the end, one member of staff attended to his last requests, made him comfortable and he thankfully passed away peacefully. Our whole family would like to thank all the staff at Oakview for all the wonderful kindness and care provided to my father. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone needing care in old age.

It was very difficult for me to accept that Mum needed to go into care due to my poor health and work commitments. I found the staff to be very empathetic and reassuring, and Mum, herself, cannot praise the care and food enough. I am so grateful to have found this a success for my mum and myself.

Mum has been a resident at Oakview since June 2018. I am very happy with the level of care she has received during her time here. The staff work incredibly hard and I would like to thank them all for the tremendous work they do and especially during COVID. Mum is happy here, always well presented and enjoys her homemade soup every day. Staff are caring, patient and attentive. Thank you.

Feel that Oakview Manor have cared for my mother at a difficult time in her life. They have also been sympathetic when we could not visit, having to do door visits which was difficult due to Covid. Feel, in particular, that a couple of carers are great ambassadors for the care sector.

Reply from Caroline Lees, Manager at Oakview Manor Care Home

Thanks for your comments, Douglas. I will pass your thoughts on to all the staff. Your mum has been a pleasure to care for and continues to make the staff laugh, daily, with her comments.

My partner has been living in Oakview Manor for a few months now, and he seems quite content and likes the staff. He enjoys the food, although he never remembers what he had for his last meal - even when he only had it fifteen minutes before!
