Initially, I felt that the home was bit tired, it really required fully redecorating, the staff seemed caring and friendly. However, since my Aunt's 3 years residency, there were many staff changes. All in all, I felt that the home, in general, was fine and it was really the head nurse and carers that kept me from moving my Aunt. My Aunt has recently passed away and I must say that the staff on duty over the weekend from 19th April to Sunday 22 April were first class. I've also noticed that the home is currently being redecorated.

I visit regularly and at different times. I am treated like a family member by every member of staff. I think this is a wonderful home with the most caring staff I have come across. The Queen could not be looked after better than my Mum. I look forward to my visits and I know when I am not there that Mum is looked after in an excellent manner.

Because of my age (82 Years) and physical ailments, I rely on the kindness and support of all members of staff. My female cousin chose this home for me because she and her sister can visit me frequently and give me family news and bring me treats.

Staff are friendly and caring and my friend talks very highly of the care staff. The rooms are well laid out and homely. It is comforting to know that residents are well cared for and safe. I visit quite often and always find that the staff go out of their way to be helpful and informative.

My mother has lived in Oakbridge for over 4 years now. For the first 18 months, I did have some minor issues with attention to detail and organisation but since then the general improvement in the standards of care and investment in stimulating activities for the residents and renovation works both inside and outside the home have been significant.

The management and staff have done a remarkable job in improving the quality of life of those in their care. The quality of communication with the resident's families and friends is also of a very high standard. I could not recommend the care staff highly enough.

Oakbridge was chosen because it offered us Care facilities, with Nursing facilities if/when required. While the Nursing elements have been needed sooner than we anticipated, my Uncle is receiving the care he needs as his situation changes.
He has settled well into his new home thanks to the Staff at Oakbridge, who have been welcoming and receptive to his needs from the start. The atmosphere is open and friendly - with an underlying commitment to Resident care. There is a wide programme of activities for Residents - and family and friends.
My Uncle's complex medical needs are being met, monitored and amended in consultation with GP and other NHS Services. Nursing staff provide regular contact and medical updates, quickly assessing and reassessing as dictated by his needs. Staff are always available to discuss matters arising.

Regular meetings with the Oakbridge Management Team provide opportunities to meet other families and address any issues in a supportive environment.

Everyone in our family absolutely appreciates the high level of care that our mum receives at Oakbridge Care Home, day in and day out. For my mum, her highs and lows are dealt with in a professional and caring manner. The 24 hour care is irreplaceable and the peace of mind for us as a family is priceless.

The facilities – her room, the social areas, the activities, the food, access to services, all provide and add to mum’s quality of life.

On a personal level, I have myself, on more than a few occasions, been the recipient of all the staffs caring support. Especially when it is a little overwhelming watching your elderly parent suffer without knowing how to help.

When my mother-in-law first entered Oakbridge at the end of 2016 we noticed that the care home had a tired, run-down appearance but since then there has been continuous, the ongoing improvement which is noticeable and is much appreciated by the residents. There is a great relationship between the staff and the residents with a lot of good humour and affection from both sides. We were lucky to be present at the St Patrick's day party where everyone had great fun, singing along with the guest musician, and showing off their moves on the dance floor! Moving to Oakbridge has given my mother-in-law a new lease of life and has brought back her sparkle. There is still some work to be done to improve the accommodation but the quality of care from the staff is admirable.

If you're looking for a care home that offers a high standard of care, with genuine compassionate staff, Oakbridge Care Home is the place. Yes, the decor needed to be upgraded and its good to see this is now being done by the new manager through a comprehensive refurbishment programme and there are already significant improvements. The staff do a tremendous job and are very enthusiastic and positive- so well done to you. I couldn't do your job. The activity programme is excellent, and staff respond to residents suggestions for new ideas. I visited 5 other care homes before choosing this one for my mum and am so glad I did. I know my mum is safe and secure, she's cared for dearly by staff, and she enjoys the activities and meals. If you're looking for a place in a care home - go for a visit - speak to the staff - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The positive reviews about this place bear no resemblance to the home my wife and I visited numerous times last year.

Furniture in the room was worn, chipped, and unmatched. The alarm/call button failed to work - so was removed rather than fixed. Our friend was unable to get out of bed, and was left in a room with a closed door, and no way of calling for a nurse.

The whole place appeared to be in need of refurbishment.

Staff appeared to be untrained and uninterested.

There was a constant smell of urine, including in the public areas.

Cleanliness was poor.

Reply from Gillian Aitchison, Manager at Oakbridge Care Home

I am sorry you felt the need to write a strong review. From October '16 we have undergone a major refurbishment and I can assure you that nowhere in the home smells of urine at any point. What might have been helpful is if you could have contacted management with your concerns in order we had a...

The staff are very welcoming and show great care and respect for the residents. There is a lovely 'family' atmosphere and a great variety of activities to stimulate and entertain residents. Oakbridge is the nearest to a 'family home' that I have seen and I minister to people in many care homes.

The quality of staff and service is of a solidly good nature. The staff are mindful of the dignity of the residents and treat them with respect and courtesy. The variety of activities adequately stimulate the residents and the hairdressing and nail sessions are welcomed, as are the church services. Overall, the quality of care itself is excellent, with staff willing to take on board any requests that are made. Only negative comment: one or two items have gone missing.

This is a fantastic care home with a friendly and upbeat atmosphere. We were really anxious about my mum going into care, but the Manager and the staff made it easy. Nothing is too much trouble and if the staff don't know the answer, they find it out.

The environment appears slightly dated, however, the care and compassion shown make up for it.
