At Glenfairn House residents not only live in beautiful surroundings, they enjoy the care of a truly dedicated team, who provide residential, dementia, nursing, palliative, mental health care and respite care.

The team follows Sanctuary’s vision of Enriching Lives, based on the six senses people need to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of achievement, belonging, continuity, security, significance and purpose.

They champion residents to be as independent as they can, and to have an active role to play in how their home is run. Like Resident Ambassador Marie, who loves getting involved in everything from welcoming new residents to Glenfairn, to providing feedback on the menu and the activities on offer.

And talking of activities, following Marie’s feedback, the team regularly takes residents to a beautiful local hotel for tea and cake. Marie has even introduced a new arts and crafts group, with more planned.

Mealtimes are a real highlight of the day, with freshly cooked meals from their chef served daily, as well as home-baked cakes and treats for afternoon tea.

The Edwardian home is magnificent with period features, and many rooms with sea views across to the Isle of Arran, and others overlooking the spectacular gardens. With a summer house and wheelchair friendly pathways, they are a beautiful spot to relax with loved ones, who are welcome to visit any time.

The team embrace the local community into the home, run by not-for-profit Sanctuary Care, helping their residents to truly feel part of life outside Glenfairn. As well as regular trips in the minibus, they love to welcome musicians and youngsters from local schools and colleges.

With a team dedicated to activities, there’s so much to do at Glenfairn House. From pamper sessions in the salon and animal visits, to music, garden games and barbecues.

My mother has had the best care since moving into this residential home. The staff keep.me up to date with any medical matters and changes to her care . They try to keep her interactions going even though her advanced dementia makes this hard and sometimes you get no response

My mum has been a resident of Glenfairn for a few years and has an excellent standard of care. All the staff from the manager admin kitchen domestic carers and activity are fantastic they are such a friendly bunch and make you feel so welcome nothing is a bother to them. There is regular activities
which unfortunately mum can't always do but they always include my mum and myself too when visiting. I am always kept informed regarding mum. There is regular meetings and newsletters too. Glenfairn is a happy place especially when one member of staff is around.

My aunt was in Glenfairn House Care Home for short time earlier this year. We were so impressed by the attentive care she received and by the caring nature of all the staff. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble for them and they were always so friendly. The home kept us fully informed with regular
updates on the health and wellbeing of my aunt, and any requests were dealt with promptly. Visiting times were very flexible and tea and biscuits were often provided! We looked at several care homes in the area and were so pleased that my aunt secured a place at Glenfairn.

Glenfairn House Care Home, Is a fantastic home for my mum which provides a homely and comfortable environment, all the staff are very welcoming and helpful, and provide genuine care for my mum on a daily basis. There is always lots of activities for the residents and my mum enjoys joining in, and is
encouraged to do so by the staff, and families are welcome to join in with activities also. The staff in the home have good communication with myself and provide regular updates on the wellbeing of my mum. The home keeps families updated on what's happening in the home.
However I have not had opportunity to speak to, or been introduced to the management team which is reflected in my star rating.

In the short period of time my mum has been in Glenfairn I have found the staff very helpful and friendly. Any queries or requests we have had have been dealt with quickly and with a smile. My experience is with my wife working in the care community and residential homes. Visiting on social events and seeing the different environments and interactions between staff and clients. It is with this in mind, the support and care of the residents in Glenfairn House that is very impressive.

All staff have been respectful, understanding and caring since my mum moved into Glenfairn nine months ago. There seems to be significant, positive changes being made that will definitely improve the quality of the care home. Recently, the communication and interaction with relatives/loved ones have
increased which has been great.

My mum was transferred from another care home to Glenfairn House Care Home for a few weeks due to work being carried out. On my first visit to Glenfairn House Care Home, I was welcomed by smiling carers in the nicest possible way. Mum's room on the first floor was clean, tidy and very spacious and comfortable.
Everything about this wonderful care home was 10/10. For me and my family, top marks all-round to staff, managers, cleaners and chefs, I cannot fault this beautiful place and will be a bit sad when Mum returns to her care home.

My mum enjoys activity time and always looks forward to it.
Her favorite is singing and reminiscing about the stars and her life.
She enjoys going to get her hair and nails done in the salon and interacting with staff especially the activities team.
Her eating has improved since being here, eating
a wider variety of foods.

I feel my family member settled in well after me being uptight. The activities staff are amazing; they are so good with the residents and very organised. There are always activities going on. The bedroom is very cosy with a lovely door that opens onto a nice garden. The management seems really nice;
we got a nice welcome phone call. The menus on the tables are great - lots of people see what they are having. The interior is good too.

Staffing levels are poor - need more than three nursing assistants on the floor. Existing staff are very good and committed but overworked given the level of assistance needed by many residents. Basic things like bathing and mouth care are not attended to as a result. Residents are left in bed due to
staffing. Health care assistant care is very good but there needs to be more. Very pleased the agency is not used as much - their practice was poor/risky.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.808)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.808) out of 10 for Glenfairn House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.746 for Glenfairn House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.746
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.062 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Glenfairn House Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.462
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
