Beechvale is an award winning nursing home set in ten acres of gardens, woodland and surrounding fields. Beechvale was recognised as a Top 20 care home in Northern Ireland by carehome.co.uk in 2020, the leading care home review website.

The priority of the home is to provide the very best care in a setting that promotes comfort, security and peace of mind.

Beechvale provides a tranquil environment to care for you or your loved ones. Beechvale’s success is built on its widespread reputation as being a good and caring home.

In 2016, the home was beautifully refurbished and extended in a tasteful and homely manner, furnished with the latest equipment and aids to make life as easy and comfortable for its 50 residents.

Beechvale is perceived as having all the ingredients which contribute to an atmosphere of being a ‘home from home’, something which is not just confined to the building but the interaction of residents, staff, visitors, doctors and the local community.

Just south of Comber, the home is within easy reach of Belfast, Holywood, Bangor and Newtownards and within close proximity to the local towns and villages of Ballygowan, Comber, Crossgar, Saintfield, Carryduff, Ballynahinch, Killyleagh and Downpatrick.

We could not be happier with Beechvale for mum and we cannot believe the change in her since she arrived! She is so happy and content and after 6 months in bed at home, is now up and in the residents lounge most days taking part in activities and making connections with other residents. The care she
has received so far has been outstanding! Staff are friendly and approachable and have taken the time to really get to know mum, her ways and her needs. They genuinely care for her and have also been so attentive to us as a family as she transitions into nursing care. The home also has a genuine homely feel. It is warm, well maintained and tidy. Mum's room is cosy and clean with a view into the lovely gardens. Beechvale has gone beyond our expectations and we can't speak highly enough about it!
Reply from Filipe Ferreira, Manager at Beechvale Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind and encouraging feedback. We are delighted to hear how happy and settled your mum is and to see such positive changes since she joined us.
Your lovely comments about the care, staff, and homely environment mean a great deal to the whole team. It is a privilege to care for your mum and to support your family during this transition.
Thank you again for your trust in Beechvale.

Filipe

Really can't fault this team. Extremely well run care home, friendly, professional, spotlessly clean. Mum has been happy here since the day she arrived, and the Team did all that they needed to, and more, to ensure she settled in well. The policy of ensuring that the weekly afternoon activities proceeds
outside visiting hours is a good one, and provides stimulation that is appropriate and positive. The sitting room is a nice haven of genteel calm.
Reply from Filipe Ferreira, Manager at Beechvale Nursing HomeThank you very much for taking the time to share such thoughtful and positive feedback. Your kind words mean a great deal to us, and the entire team truly appreciate your recognition of their dedication and hard work.
We are delighted to hear that your mum has been happy with us since her arrival and that she settled in so well. Supporting residents and their families during that transition is extremely important to us, and it is reassuring to know that our approach made a positive difference.
We're also pleased that you value our activities program and the calm, welcoming atmosphere of the home. Creating meaningful stimulation alongside a peaceful, comfortable environment is central to our philosophy of care.
Thank you again for your trust and support your feedback is deeply appreciated and will be shared with the whole team.

My Mum has been in Beechvale for almost 3 years. The care and attention she receives from staff is excellent. She is living with dementia and it's not always an easy task caring for her, but the staff always know best to handle things. Management are very approachable and knowledge and nothing is ever
a problem. Beechvale staff are Mum's family now too, it's such a warm welcoming environment to step into. I would recommend the home to anyone requiring nursing care for their loved one.

Very happy with everything. My husband is suffering from a severe stroke since 02/02/2022. Hospital for three months then Beechvale Nursing Home. He can't walk or talk and is spoonfed and toileted. The food, I heard, is very good and plenty of fluids available. I don't have a view on certain things
and my husband is hoisted from bed to chair and cannot communicate with anyone but I am very content with the home as it is a friendly, country approach to all.

Mum has been a resident at Beechvale for 18 months now. She has been treated by all the staff with respect, care and thoughtfulness, just the way you would treat your own family member. Staff have rallied around Mum when she really needed support and have ensured that she felt part of the 'family' that
is Beechvale. Staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that Mum didn't feel isolated or alone. The home has a great feel and atmosphere and staff always have time to speak to both residents and visitors. I would highly recommend Beechvale to anyone looking for a new home for their loved one.

Beechvale Nursing Home is simply the best! Their welcome is warm, and their care is excellent. Their motto is "we are one big family", and that includes the extended family. This is so true. You feel it the moment you walk through the door. They envelop their residents and their families with love and
support. Beechvale is set in a beautiful country setting, with gardens for residents and families to sit in on sunny days. Inside, the rooms are made personal to the resident. There is a visitor's lounge and other little nooks to sit whilst visiting. The staff feel like family, nothing is too much trouble for them and always with a smile on their face. They are helpful, caring, empathetic and completely dedicated to the residents. With two staff in charge of daily entertainment, the lives of the residents are busy and constantly filled with music, singing, crafts, quizzes, laughter and lots of fun! My mother enjoys the company and her special group of new friends. It's emotionally difficult and heartbreaking to have to place a loved one apart from you. However, you know you're leaving them in safe hands in the care of Beechvale staff!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.336) out of 10 for Beechvale Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Beechvale Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (88 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.419 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beechvale Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.769
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
