Beechvale is an award winning nursing home set in ten acres of gardens, woodland and surrounding fields. Beechvale was recognised as a Top 20 care home in Northern Ireland by carehome.co.uk in 2020, the leading care home review website.

The priority of the home is to provide the very best care in a setting that promotes comfort, security and peace of mind.

Beechvale provides a tranquil environment to care for you or your loved ones. Beechvale’s success is built on its widespread reputation as being a good and caring home.

In 2016, the home was beautifully refurbished and extended in a tasteful and homely manner, furnished with the latest equipment and aids to make life as easy and comfortable for its 50 residents.

Beechvale is perceived as having all the ingredients which contribute to an atmosphere of being a ‘home from home’, something which is not just confined to the building but the interaction of residents, staff, visitors, doctors and the local community.

Just south of Comber, the home is within easy reach of Belfast, Holywood, Bangor and Newtownards and within close proximity to the local towns and villages of Ballygowan, Comber, Crossgar, Saintfield, Carryduff, Ballynahinch, Killyleagh and Downpatrick.

My mother has lived in Beechvale Nursing Home for nearly 2 years. During that time she has been looked after extremely well. Her room is very clean and her washing is done on a daily basis. Although she doesn't eat much the food is excellent and she enjoys what she eats.
The staff, all nurses, carers
and those on reception are so caring and attentive. It is manager brilliantly. Nothing is too much trouble. I would and have recommended Beechavale to anyone.

Beechvale Nursing Home has a warm, welcoming atmosphere from the minute you enter.
It provides friendly, resident-centred care to not only the residents but the staff also look out for the families, especially the 'partners'.
My Mum is treated with dignity and respect and she feels safe here.

The

activities co-ordinator organises fun activities to stimulate minds and bodies.
We are grateful to have found this haven for our mother.

I find the staff very caring and helpful and fun. They are very patient with my uncle who can quite often be confused and very verbal to them.
I have been present at meal times and have observed his meals which have to be mashed/pureed. He eats very well.
His mind is getting more confused but staff
are all very good with him.

My mother has just recently become a resident of this very homely and friendly care environment. The staff have been very welcoming to both mum and me and have helped us 'both' to settle and adjust. Mum loves the garden and her 'wee seat' at the front door, so she can people watch and look out at the
garden. She was reluctant initially to take part in any activities, but thanks to a very engaging activities co-ordinator, mum is now joining in and particularly enjoys the music and quiz activities. Thanks to all at Beechvale.

My father has been at Beechvale now for just over a year. He has received very good in that time from nurses and carers. The medical attention he has required recently has been professional and attentive. There are daily activities and he enjoys the variety of these each week. My father has a very good
appetite and he certainly enjoys the good and frequent snacks provided. Beechvale is a friendly, welcoming home that feels like a home from home.

My father has been in Beechvale Nursing Home for six months and the care he has received has been outstanding in every respect. The ambience of the home is just beautiful. It is welcoming, warm and friendly. All the staff are excellent and everyone plays their role beyond the call of duty, treating
the residents with respect, dignity and great care. They know my father so well and do everything in their power to ensure his comfort, peace and well being. The activities organised in the home are stimulating, innovative and seek to cater for individual needs and interests. Communication is excellent and as a family, we feel bless our father is here.

I have been impressed with the person-centred attention that dad has received from all the staff at this home. They are excellent at trying out different strategies to help him with everyday tasks and allowing him to have as much independence as possible. They have also been extremely supportive of
us as a family and I have complete confidence in the care that they provide. They have created a bright and friendly environment and are very inclusive of family members. Dad is very settled and we enjoy visiting him in his new home. I would highly recommend this home to others.

My mother has been in Beechvale just over one year. Her experience and that of the family has been, in the main, satisfactory. Concerns have been raised where necessary and generally acted on, however, there have been occasions when we felt it took too long for issues to be addressed. Mum is not overly
happy with her meals and whilst the food is of a satisfactory standard, concerns are that what she orders is not always what she gets. Her bed is clean and tidy, she is clean and tidy and in general, we are satisfied with her care. Understaffing is an issue.

My mother has been in Beechvale Nursing Home for over two years. She has a lovely room at front of the home. It is well furnished to her needs. The staff are very caring and professional. Her meals are pureed and are very varied. She is able to sit in the main lounge and enjoy the activities even though
she cannot join in. Overall I am happy with my Mum's care.

I contacted Beechvale regarding respite care for my father following an illness and time spent in hospital. The manager responded quickly to the request and within a day my Dad was able to go to Beechvale. He received excellent care, with very friendly and competent staff. The food and care he received
was excellent and the nursing staff were able to advise on his medication and ensure he was medically and physically fit to go home.

I would highly recommend Beechvale Nursing Home. My husband has been there for just over 2 years now and is still happy with the care he is getting. He has dementia and at times, can be difficult, but the nurses are very patient and understanding with him which means a lot. Food is home cooked and of
a high standard. The manager is very approachable and if there are any problems she gets it sorted out quickly.

My mother initially went in for respite on 19/12/17. She had fallen and her eyesight was failing so due to her deterioration, was unable to live independently any longer.
She initially was very apprehensive but once she got settled, she is really enjoying her time in Beechvale. She has made friends
and is getting involved in daily activities.
We are so delighted with the fabulous staff in Beechvale who have welcomed her from the start. Due to our family circumstances, we are extremely delighted that our mother is now in a safe environment and is happy and would not hesitate in recommending this care home.

My mother-in-law has been a resident in Beechvale since February 2013. During that time the care has been excellent, even during the difficult time when, under new management, there was an extensive building programme undertaken.

The property is now modern and bright and recent staffing problems

have obviously been resolved, resulting in a good atmosphere. The girl in charge of activities is extremely caring and excellent.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.455)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.455) out of 10 for Beechvale Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Beechvale Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.538 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beechvale Nursing Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.288
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
