Set in a beautiful leafy location in Colinton Village, in the south-west of Edinburgh, Thorburn Manor is a luxurious care home for the elderly.

Previously the site of the former Bonaly School, Thorburn Manor is a thoughtfully designed care home catering for older people with a range of care needs including dementia and palliative care.

The home is registered to cater for 34 residents set in luxurious single rooms with en-suite shower wet room facilities.

Residents enjoy regular, daily activities and have a variety of areas to relax such as the library, quiet lounges and the stunning main lounge which opens onto beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the property.

The Edinburgh care home is part of the award-winning, family-run Lindemann Care Home Group.

All staff are highly trained and motivated to provide a first-class individual care service for all residents and their families.

My wife spent her last year in Thorburn Manor after having a major stroke three years previously which left her paralysed down one side and doubly incontinent. Having nursed her at home myself for three years with the help of visiting carers I was a little nervous about placing her in a home.
However,
Thorburn came highly recommended by someone who regularly attended there and sure enough, from our initial visit onwards, the staff could not have done more to make her comfortable and as active as possible.
Even at the end, the staff provided a supportive and sympathetic atmosphere which made the process bearable.
So to summarise Thorburn Manor is somewhere that I highly recommend. It has bright modern facilities in a welcoming building with amazing staff.

The staff are amazing my mother-in-law is very happy the place is very welcoming and clean, my aunt used to be a resident here at Thorburn as well 10 years ago. My mother-in-law has been in the care home for 9 years and though she has difficulty communicating, she communicates her satisfaction non-verbally.

Dad looked after very well. Allowed to stay mostly in his room which is his wish. He seems to enjoy the food. He has been here nearly 3 years without having any issues. The gardens and putting green are very nice in the summer.

After being a resident for the last five years, my father sadly passed away on 25th January. We are so grateful that in his last weeks, the care he received from all the staff was excellent. As a family, we are very grateful for the great care that he received. Thank you to every member of staff.

Really pleased with today's Christmas High Tea. It was very well organised, the food was excellent and importantly mum really enjoyed it. Loved spending time with our Mum. The festive high tea was well prepared and organised.

Mary arrived at Thorburn Manor in Sept she and we her family have nothing but praise for the staff and the quality of her care. She has settled in well. We had medical scare a few weeks ago and we were impressed with how this was managed by the staff.

My mother has been looked after at Thorburn for one year. It is a lovely home. The building is light and airy with a lovely garden and a putting green. It seems like a hotel. The food is impressive with different menus. My mum has a clean room with an en-suite bathroom. The staff are very caring and
professional and always smiling. They greet us and my mum by name and keep us up to date with what’s happening. They are so patient with her and know exactly how to manage her. Walking is very important for Mum and she is taken out whenever possible. She is safe. There is an extensive programme of activities and entertainment, including live musicians singing Scottish songs. We are often treated to tea and cakes. The local GP comes in weekly and any issues have been sorted. There is a hairdressing salon in the building which Mum appreciates. I am very happy with my mum’s care. When the time comes and I need care I would choose Thorburn.

There are honestly no words that can explain how I feel about Thorburn Manor, my mum has been in Thorburn Manor for nearly four years now.
The support my mum and my family especially myself have been given has been exceptional, through the most difficult times, settling my mum in, covid, then dealing
with my mum’s dementia, helping me to understand and cope with it, there have been a few tears, but they are always there to help and reassure me and get me through some difficult times,
So a massive thank you to all the staff at Thorburn Manor for your continuous love and support, I couldn’t have gone through these sad and happy times without you, I wouldn’t have wanted to.

I have found the atmosphere within the home to be warm, welcoming, and quite anti-institutional in it's design and décor. The facilities are first class and this is backed up by the superb staff. I have yet to walk into the home without receiving a warm welcome and smile. This transfers to the care
my wife is receiving and I know she is very well cared for by each member of staff which provides a great comfort to me. There is a very varied programme of activities although my wife is only able to be involved with some of these, they do cover the opportunity for all residents to be involved in as many as they are able.

My Dad spent the last year of his life in Thorburn Manor, he settled in very quick and was very well cared for. The staff are very good with the residents. I always felt welcome and I am thankful for the care my dad was given.

My husband and I have just had the most beautiful Christmas tea with my dad in the gorgeous library. We were so impressed last year and this year was equally impressive. The food was delicious, I think that dad's favourite bit was the trifle! All of the team at Thorburn Manor are so caring and attentive

Thorburn Manor is a super care home. My parents are both looked after extremely well, both with their differing care needs. I am very grateful to all the excellent staff for all their hard work, it is a huge weight off, to know my parents are so well cared for in such a nice home.

Mum has been in Thorburn Manor now for over two months. She's settled in so well and seems very happy, which is so reassuring for myself and my brother and sister. The staff have been so caring and patient with her. She's enjoyed all the activities they do on a daily basis, including a trip on the canal
barge and carol singing in Morningside. We just had a fabulous Christmas afternoon tea today with lovely sandwiches and cakes. All I can say is a big thank you to all staff.

The staff are wonderful and very efficient in looking after our mother. My mother is so happy here and enjoys her accommodation and the friends that she has made here. Her room is always clean and tidy and her bathroom is spotless. Whenever we visit her, there always seem to be activities going on to

Mum was in Thorburn Manor for three and a half years. During that time, she made many new friends and was always ready to take part in a very varied programme of entertainment. The staff organise lots of interesting and enjoyable activities for residents and are very good at gently encouraging people
to try new things and have fun. The kindness and quality of care from everyone was wonderful and as Mum became frailer, the nursing care was excellent and she did not suffer any distress or discomfort. What surprised me was the support that staff also provided to my sister and myself in Mum's final days - I hadn't expected it and it helped us enormously. The first time I walked in to Thorburn Manor to see if it might be a suitable place for Mum, I felt there was something about it that was warm, kind and caring. It is a lovely bright and airy place and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I am so glad I found it as Mum was very happy there.

A lovely care home which is small, friendly and very well designed and maintained. The gardens are also beautiful and provide a lovely environment for a visit when the weather permits. All the staff are very attentive, patient and caring as well as very helpful. There are a wide variety of events which
take place on a regular basis within the home, and the recent family picnic day was a lovely and much-appreciated thought.
