My lovely mum went to live in Spencer House Care Home in October as she had deteriorated in health and needed more care than the family could give; she soon settled in and eventually joined in with armchair exercises, pom-pom making, chatting to other residents and carol singing. Mum loved the freshly
cooked food, She read a poem out loud, ‘Where Poppies Grow’ for Remembrance Day. We were all very proud of her as it was the first time she had done anything like this. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were so caring, and all her needs were met and more.
Mum only had 7-weeks in the home, her heart failed, and she died in A&E in December.
The family were very impressed with the cleanliness of the home, ensuring we all had negative Covid tests, normal range temperatures, advised to wash hands and put on new masks, gowns and gloves all provided. We always had a warm welcome as we entered the home and left knowing our mum was in safe hands.
Reply from Shweta Mendon, Home Manager at Spencer House Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your very positive, sincere and kind review of the care of your mum received whilst she was with us at Spencer House. We were delighted to have spent time getting to know both your mum and you as a family. We endeavour to try and achieve the highest standards of care that we are all proud of, all the continued efforts by all our staff. It was a pleasure looking after your mum and witnessing her blossom whilst in our home. Your kind words will be shared with all our staff throughout the home. Best wishes.

Mum lived at Spencer House Care Home for over three years. It is a beautiful home from home, with a lovely accessible garden, filled with wonderful caring staff.
Throughout her stay, she was treated with respect, care and compassion. All her needs were met, both physical and emotional.
As Mum’s health
failed she moved from a care environment to a nursing one, made easier with it being in the same building and with familiar staff.
During mums stay at Spencer house we, her family, developed a great relationship with all her carers, making it easy for us all to work together in her interest. In fact, mums carers supported us as well as Mum!
During lockdown we were relaxed knowing that Mum had the best of care and that she felt part of a lovely big family!
Many thanks to you all.

My mother went to Spencer House in June 2021, and it has been a very successful move in that the care provided has been absolutely excellent, and all the members of staff that I have had contact with have been extremely caring and supportive not only towards my mother but also to the wider family. They
made my mother very welcome, and her general health has improved since moving into the home. I can only say thank you to Spencer House.

We admitted Mum during the Covid restrictions. These were difficult times after my father died and Mums Dementia escalated. My mental state was not in a good place. The staff during Mums transition to care have been great to both myself and mum. The manager was particularly good at helping me come
to terms with the situation.

The online Facebook updates with pictures and videos are very helpful as well, Mum has little to no recollection later after the event, so it is good for us to see what she has been doing, and she enjoys seeing what she has been doing.

The Covid restrictions mean I obviously am not able to comment on some options fully, so the goods could actually be excellent; we wait and see.

Reply from Shweta Mendon, Home Manager at Spencer House Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your very kind comments and positive review of Spencer House. It has been a pleasure to support your mother and yourself with the transition into our home. We understand that this period can be very emotional for family members too, and we are delighted that you felt supported and listened to. We always try our hardest to ensure that relatives feel included in the process of admission, and we consider this a valuable investment towards building a trusted relationship between us. All the staff at Spencer House will continue to support our residents and families in every manner that we can. Your kind words will be shared will our staff.

My 98-year-old grandma was admitted to Spencer House in early January after a period in hospital where she had contracted Covid.
I was kept informed almost daily of Grandma's wellbeing and general welfare. Sadly she was re-admitted to hospital after only a few weeks and she passed away shortly afterwards.
I
cannot fault the care Grandma received in her short time at Spencer House and I will be forever grateful for the dignity and respect she was given in her last weeks.
Special thanks to the manager for showing such empathy after Grandma's passing.
Reply from Shweta Mendon, Home Manager at Spencer House Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you so much for your very kind and touching review regarding the care you experienced whilst your grandmother was at Spencer House. We strive to ensure our residents and indeed relatives feel they are receiving the highest standard of care whilst they are with us. It is very warming to know that you feel the care your grandmother received met all your expectations. We believe aftercare is equally important for relatives, and we are delighted that you experienced this from our staff. Your lovely review comments and kind words will be shared with all the staff as we feel it is important that this feedback is cascaded to our staff especially during these challenging times. My mother has been in the care of Spencer House for the last 11-months, and I have to say, I feel that she has been receiving the best care that can be offered, which is often under difficult circumstances. During the COVID pandemic, I feel that the Spencer team dealt with the issue of protecting the
residents admirably. Whilst at the height of the lockdown, it was a very tough time not being able to see our loved ones, the precautions taken were necessary, appropriate, and dealt with sensitively. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and a special shout out to the nurses in Blenheim; they are incredible, compassionate and do a great job. The facilities are like a 5-star hotel, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone. They even have a wine fridge! It's a shame my mother can't get to it, but I'm sure there are some that can...

Overall, highly recommended.

Spencer House has been so good at providing contact with my mother over this last year in a flexible, safe environment from the indoor lounge area, comfy garden pods, and the garden itself. It was so good to know that their high standard of care by very hard work from all the staff continued in such
challenging times.

We are very grateful to all at Spencer House for the genuine care shown towards our mum during a difficult time. Although Covid restrictions have limited how much time we can spend together, we feel confident that Mum's emotional and health needs are at the top of the team's priority. This has changed
my perception of care home - into a positive, engaging and uplifting experience for elderly loved ones, and I would recommend Spencer House to anyone looking for a "home from home" experience. Thanks, everyone at Spence House.

Unfortunately, my mum was admitted to Spencer House during the Covid pandemic, which made things so difficult for her and the family. However, the staff at Spencer House couldn’t do enough for Mum or us. It really gave me confidence in our decision as she is so well looked after. Staff are so friendly
and welcoming, and the home itself is exceptionally well presented and spotlessly clean. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Spencer House.

Mum has been a resident at Spencer House for more than 5-years now, and at 91, she has attained the record of being the longest-lived member of our family. Without the dedicated care and attention provided by all staff at Spencer House, we, as a family, acknowledge this would not have been possible.
The extremely challenging period of the past 12-months has been met wholeheartedly by the manager and the rest of the team. It is to them that I offer thanks, from all the family, for the way they have enabled us to see Mum during these most difficult and anxious times, and most importantly, for enabling Mum to still be with us today.

I have had some very good relationships with other residents during my stay here at Spencer House. Unfortunately, I have outlived many of these. I think the care homes can go a long way to fostering relationships and friendships, and I have certainly experienced this here. Especially within the last
year, making new friends with common interests in the garden in particular.
I like to spend time with others and build on relationships with others including all the staff. Spending time talking and getting to know them is really important for both them and myself.
I can not imagine any home fully giving you that feeling of ‘being home, however, I have always said that Spencer House is my home.
I, myself look forward to the coming year for things to settle down and to be able to enjoy and resume lots of the highlights we have missed - our mums and tots group especially.

Until moving to Spencer House in October 2019, my wife was in a different care home, so she and I have experienced different levels of care and are, therefore, able to make genuine evaluations of this care home. Spencer House is a beautiful home; the first thing you notice on entering the building is
the high-quality look of the furnishings, which continues throughout the building. The receptionists are very polite and make you feel very welcome, this is mirrored by all the carers, nurses and admin staff making the home very welcoming and a reassuring place to live. Food is of a restaurant standard and there is a good selection of meals on the daily menu. My wife requires a certain level of nursing and believes that she is well looked after and is very happy at Spencer House, the management and staff should be very proud of what they’ve achieved and how happy they make people feel.

I spent a week in Spencer House for respite care after an operation. This week gave me the perfect opportunity to experience the daily life and routine of this care home and I have to say I was impressed by every aspect. Food was excellent, well balanced, nourishing and, at times, inventive. Care given
to the residents was kind and showed understanding of their needs. Activities on offer were varied and interesting. Everywhere appeared to be clean and, the thing I noticed most, was the smiles - from reception onwards. I was fortunate to experience this.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.4 = 0.821
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2015

I am currently working as a senior General Manager for Spencer House Care Home and support the company with multi-site management. I joined Avery Health Care in 2015 and worked at Ashurst Mews Care Home in Moulton Northamptonshire. I am a registered general nurse by profession. I spent many years at Ashurst Mews and this helped me develop my foundations of delivering excellent care and also developed my management skills, my personal skills and this provided me with the opportunity to transfer to Spencer House to develop further as a senior General Manager. I have a real passion for developing staff and consider myself a very hands-on manager.

I take pride in leading by example and working with and for both our residents and staff. I enjoy watching our home go from strength to strength and find the small achievements equally important as the larger ones. I like to see our ethos of care being delivered every day and watching my residents blossom, remain well, feel at home and safe under the care of my staff and myself. I find the receptiveness of staff and residents to any improvements we make effortless. I particularly take pride in watching my staff embrace any new changes and challenges and developing their knowledge of any new, innovative systems we implement. I have been delighted to accept and feel the timing was right.

I very much enjoy spending time with my family and looking after them. I have a keen interest in cooking and spend a lot of my free time with my family. I very much enjoy being outdoors and can spend many hours attending to my garden. I also like to keep myself active physically. I enjoy regular countryside walks. I like to keep abreast of current affairs and take an interest in world events, often watching global news programmes and documentaries.
