Mum has been in the dementia unit for almost a year now, after having moved in with my father. Unfortunately, Dad died suddenly after only six weeks, but I had achieved my aim of them being together. The staff are wonderful, caring and can’t do enough. Mum has been out on the minibus and has enjoyed
the singers that have come into the home. Usually a very quiet and private person, they have managed to persuade her to participate in the activities. The home is pristine and has an on-site hair salon and podiatrist that visits. The housekeeping staff work very hard and are always respectful of entering the resident's rooms and are all very friendly. Can’t really comment on the food as have never been present at meal times, but the menus always look quite posh, though Mum has always been a very traditional person and prefers good old-fashioned food, she has gained weight so must be enjoying it. Admin, reception and management staff cannot fault. Highly recommend this home.

My mum lives at Spencer House Care Home. When my mum was admitted to the hospital, she was given 6-8 weeks to live. This was in April 2021. It is due to the best care she is received at Spencer's House that she is still with us and is comfortable and settled. She loves the staff and the food. All staff
at Spencer House are very caring and kind. I can recommend Spencer House at any time for the high standards of care delivery.

Increasing frailty and falls, a dementia diagnosis, and some hospital admissions, meant my aunt needed more care than could be provided at her assisted living apartment. I considered several possibilities, visited three care homes, and chose Spencer House because of its facilities, impressive manager
and staff, and friendly and supportive atmosphere. The range of activities offered and the high-quality food were also factors. My aunt's lovely first room had a patio door onto the garden terrace, and she now overlooks the same aspect from the second floor.
Knowing my aunt would be able to increase her level of care without having to move home proved crucial, as she needed to move to the nursing floor sooner than I expected and sadly is now receiving end-of-life care. It is so reassuring knowing GP support is also available at all times and that phone communication is good (I don't live locally). Staff are so supportive. I warmly recommend Spencer House.

Fantastic service from all of the staff! Very helpful, courteous and my grandma is so happy! She always smiles when a member of staff pops in. Could not recommend this place enough. We were very concerned before my grandma became a resident, as we were not aware of what service she would receive, but
those concerns were immediately put to rest as soon as we popped in to check on her and saw how cheery she is, as well as having some great chats with the staff.

My mum was a cancer patient who spent the last two weeks of her life being cared for by Spencer House Care Home.
She was looked after with a huge amount of care and compassion.
As a family, when visiting Mum, we were shown exceptional kindness, empathy and respect from reception staff, management,
cleaning staff and nursing staff alike.
We were able to say our final goodbyes in a calm and peaceful environment.
We had time. We had privacy. And we had support.
They were difficult times for us all, but Spencer House Care Home helped us to get through it.
All the kindness and professionalism exhibited by staff were greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed, even if we were too upset to verbalise it at the time.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Spencer House because Mum was afforded every dignity possible during her final days, and we will be forever grateful.

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel towards all of the wonderful members of staff at Spencer House. From the efficient management team, the chirpy reception ladies, the highly skilled nurses, the gorgeous loving and caring care team and the friendly and hard-working housekeepers. Literally, nothing
is too much trouble for them all to ensure that my dear old dad is looked after on a daily basis.
It’s such an emotional time for us relatives to see the demise of a loved one, however; all of the staff are not only dedicated to the residents, but they genuinely care about the families and friends too.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this professional, caring and spotlessly clean home to anyone.
Thank you to all; you are the best.

Despite the incredible pandemic-related challenges placed upon it (and all other forms of residential care) during the last two years, Spencer House continues to deliver outstanding levels of care.
Having been a regular and frequent visitor throughout that time, I can say with great confidence just
how committed all staff, managers and volunteers - without exception - are to their residents, so many of whom have complex needs and profound vulnerabilities.
They do so with professionalism, integrity and great affection. And with great pride too.
My family and I commend and thank them for all of that.
Thank you.

What can I say - it’s an amazing place. Mum has been in there about a year now; she’s so happy. The carers are amazing, so caring, thoughtful and loving. Spencer House has everything you could possibly want - entertainment, good food, beautifully cleaned rooms, and so much for the residents to do from
crafts, cake making and decorating, painting and drawing just about everything you can imagine. They can have their hair done and nails manicured. I feel so happy and relaxed that Mum is being so well looked after.

My mum came to Spencer House under stressful circumstances, and from the very start, all staff members we spoke with were thoughtful and kind.
My mum stayed for five months until she sadly passed away. Staff seem to genuinely care - in that it's more than just a job for them. Small acts of kindness
for both my mum and for us made a big difference as we coped with her decline.
Staff are warm and accommodating, and we appreciated their flexibility and also their patience in passing on the many phone calls my mum received!
The care home itself is homely and does not feel too clinical.
Overall, despite the sadness of my mum's circumstances, Spencer House helped make my mum's last few months as positive as possible, which we are very grateful for.

Our friend has been in the home for over 6-months, despite the reluctance to do so, we are very happy to see her settled and now enjoy her stay. My dad moved into Spencer House on a short term respite basis initially. This followed a fall that hospitalised him for a week leaving him quite vulnerable and anxious that falling may happen again, particularly as his sight is deteriorating.
He was welcomed into Spencer House quickly and professionally,
and he was soon settled into his room.
At 90-years-old, any change is a challenge, but the team at Spencer House are amazing in how they put people at ease so quickly. The wonderful building, which is so well maintained by the staff, is purpose-built based on experience.
It is a pleasure to visit and is always kept to very high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful care home that goes above and beyond in all that they do. The management team and every member of staff, without exception, show their compassion and empathy in all that they do for their residents, showing that this is not just their job, it is their vocation.

Dad went to live in Spencer House in March 2020 after his dementia deteriorated. Lockdown was imposed not long after, which must have made life very difficult for all the staff. However, we were able to ring at any time to speak with Dad and get an update from the staff, who were always so helpful.
Whenever Dad had a medical issue, we were informed, no matter how minor, which was very reassuring.
Once we could visit safely, we enjoyed sitting in the lovely, peaceful garden. Dad always had a good appetite, and I know he enjoyed the freshly cooked food; we were quite envious when we saw the menus!
Sadly Dad died in December, but we were able to witness first-hand the care and devotion shown by all the staff, who left a lasting impression on my wife and I.

My lovely mum went to live in Spencer House Care Home in October as she had deteriorated in health and needed more care than the family could give; she soon settled in and eventually joined in with armchair exercises, pom-pom making, chatting to other residents and carol singing. Mum loved the freshly
cooked food, She read a poem out loud, ‘Where Poppies Grow’ for Remembrance Day. We were all very proud of her as it was the first time she had done anything like this. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were so caring, and all her needs were met and more.
Mum only had 7-weeks in the home, her heart failed, and she died in A&E in December.
The family were very impressed with the cleanliness of the home, ensuring we all had negative Covid tests, normal range temperatures, advised to wash hands and put on new masks, gowns and gloves all provided. We always had a warm welcome as we entered the home and left knowing our mum was in safe hands.

Mum lived at Spencer House Care Home for over three years. It is a beautiful home from home, with a lovely accessible garden, filled with wonderful caring staff.
Throughout her stay, she was treated with respect, care and compassion. All her needs were met, both physical and emotional.
As Mum’s health
failed she moved from a care environment to a nursing one, made easier with it being in the same building and with familiar staff.
During mums stay at Spencer house we, her family, developed a great relationship with all her carers, making it easy for us all to work together in her interest. In fact, mums carers supported us as well as Mum!
During lockdown we were relaxed knowing that Mum had the best of care and that she felt part of a lovely big family!
Many thanks to you all.

We admitted Mum during the Covid restrictions. These were difficult times after my father died and Mums Dementia escalated. My mental state was not in a good place. The staff during Mums transition to care have been great to both myself and mum. The manager was particularly good at helping me come
to terms with the situation.

The online Facebook updates with pictures and videos are very helpful as well, Mum has little to no recollection later after the event, so it is good for us to see what she has been doing, and she enjoys seeing what she has been doing.

The Covid restrictions mean I obviously am not able to comment on some options fully, so the goods could actually be excellent; we wait and see.

My 98-year-old grandma was admitted to Spencer House in early January after a period in hospital where she had contracted Covid.

If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.4 = 0.672
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager Joined: 2015

I am currently working as a senior General Manager for Spencer House Care Home and support the company with multi-site management. I joined Avery Health Care in 2015 and worked at Ashurst Mews Care Home in Moulton Northamptonshire. I am a registered general nurse by profession. I spent many years at Ashurst Mews and this helped me develop my foundations of delivering excellent care and also developed my management skills, my personal skills and this provided me with the opportunity to transfer to Spencer House to develop further as a senior General Manager. I have a real passion for developing staff and consider myself a very hands-on manager.

I take pride in leading by example and working with and for both our residents and staff. I enjoy watching our home go from strength to strength and find the small achievements equally important as the larger ones. I like to see our ethos of care being delivered every day and watching my residents blossom, remain well, feel at home and safe under the care of my staff and myself. I find the receptiveness of staff and residents to any improvements we make effortless. I particularly take pride in watching my staff embrace any new changes and challenges and developing their knowledge of any new, innovative systems we implement. I have been delighted to accept and feel the timing was right.

I very much enjoy spending time with my family and looking after them. I have a keen interest in cooking and spend a lot of my free time with my family. I very much enjoy being outdoors and can spend many hours attending to my garden. I also like to keep myself active physically. I enjoy regular countryside walks. I like to keep abreast of current affairs and take an interest in world events, often watching global news programmes and documentaries.
