Mum was at the home for two years, nine months. She was well looked after and loved. We were updated on any changes to her conditions and the follow-up actions required. We were always welcomed to the home and given tea and cakes during our visit. The communication between the home and family was excellent.
Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at Wytham HouseThank you so much for sharing your feedback. It was an honour to be able to care for your mum, and a pleasure to get to know your family. We appreciate you taking the time to write us a review, and if there is ever anything more we can do to support your family, please don't hesitate to ask.

My sister was in hospital for over 4 months with complex care needs ,she was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and began to deteriorate rapidly. Then we found Wytham house the answer to our many searches and thanks to the deputy manager she was accepted in spite of her high level of need and
at times robust use of language.
The level of care is outstanding , every health professional involved with her treat her with kindness ,respect and humour and this extends to the other residents as well.
As all our family live some distance away we cannot visit very often , so it's very reassuring for us to know she is in safe hands.
She doesn't realise that she is in a beautiful and tranquil location ,so good for stressed visitors but she doesn't demand to go home anymore , I think she knows it's her forever home.
So thank you so much Wytham house.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, on behalf of the team at Wytham HouseThank you for sharing such a thoughtful and moving review. We're so pleased that your sister has found the care and understanding she needs at Wytham House, and that you feel reassured knowing she is safe and well supported despite the distance. Your kind words about the team's compassion and approach will mean a great deal to everyone involved in her care.

My sister has complex nursing needs and is incapable of looking after herself nor getting out of bed.
She came to Wytham House at the beginning of October after being in hospital for 3 months and the difference since she has been there is remarkable. The staff are amazing in their approach and I can't
praise them enough for the care they give to her. It is good to know she is in a safe and caring environment.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, on at Wytham HouseThank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback. On my first visit to Wytham, I was impressed with the premises, layout, cleanliness and suitability for my husband to walk around freely and safely. The staff are friendly and well trained, with understanding of the needs of dementia sufferers. After 2 1/2 years I am still happy with my husband's care
and the way he is made to feel part of the Wytham family. Activities staff are kind and helpful even though my husband is unable to participate in anything.
Reply from Nicole Howarth, on behalf of the team at Wytham HouseThank you for your review and positive comments regarding our home and colleagues. We're delighted to hear that your husband is receiving such great care at Wytham House. It means a lot to us that you continue to feel confident in the support he receives and that he feels part of the Wytham House family. Your wonderful comments have been passed on to the team, who will be delighted to hear your feedback.

Wytham House is a lovely setting with kind staff. There've been ups and downs over the time my sister has been there but I've been very impressed by so many of the staff (in a wide range of positions) who've consistently been determined to provide the best quality care they can, sometimes under difficult
circumstances.
My sister has complex needs, attention to detail, & continuity of care, is vital and I'm seeing this delivered with skill and real affection for, & knowledge of, her.
I also value good communication with family members, and myself as her deputy, to ensure we work together to ensure person-centred care for her as an individual. This has been very evident in recent interactions & there's a sense of developing openess: sharing information + consulting promptly & appropriately; understanding the role of LPAs/Deputies; & following through on promises for change. I particularly appreciate the transparency & problem-solving approach that's been developed under new leadership.
Reply from Nicole Howarth, on behalf of the team at Wytham HouseThank you for taking the time to leave us such a fantastic review! We're so pleased to hear that your sister is receiving great care at Wytham House and that you've noticed an improvement in communication. Our team is dedicated to providing the very best care for all our residents, so your recognition of their hard work means a lot. Your kind comments have been passed on to the team, who will be delighted to hear your feedback.

Mum spent 3 1/2 years at Wytham House myself and my family were very happy with the staff and how well she was looked after. I used to visit her from the States and everyone was always very accommodating whenever I came over. I left a positive review quite a while ago, sadly Mum passed in December 2024
and I have had time to reflect on things. I have nothing but praise for the way Yvette dealt with the whole situation given that I was back in Florida at the time. We were in constant communication on the day it happened and it was possible for me to talk with Mum. I know they did everything they could to make her comfortable.

I would recommend this home to someone whose family don't want to get caught up in local traffic and parking issues and be in lovely surroundings combined with excellent staff.

Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Wytham HouseThank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review.! We're happy to hear that your mum received such great care during her time at Wytham House and that we were able to provide comfort during a difficult time. My mother had been a resident of Wytham House for over three years and her care in that time has been amazing and faultless. She really enjoyed the entertainment and activities. Her care at the end of her life was so appropriate and caring. Her care was always discussed with us and the staff always
made sure that mum was comfortable and calm. At the end the staff made sure that we were comfortable, offering us food and drinks and making sure they didn’t intrude on our last hours with mum, though they were always there if we needed them.
I would not hesitate to recommend Wytham House to anyone.

As a family we feel very lucky to have chosen Wytham House for my father, who is blind and also has dementia. The staff are extremely caring, and clearly make a great effort to treat residents with respect and make them feel at home. It is easy for friends and family members to visit my father: we are
always made to feel welcome. The home itself is always clean and well-organised, and the location is good for walks around the grounds.

Sadly, my Aunt has just died after 5 years at Wytham House. Five years ago we rescued her from a horrible home where social services had put her, and could not be happier with our choice, which gave her a lively and caring environment to spend her last few years. We were so happy that she was able to
stay there until she died gently and naturally.

The home has had some serious issues and has at times failed residents and relatives - but now things are looking very good. I am very impressed with the manager, deputy, reception, kitchen staff and activities staff. There are some incredible nurses and carers but unfortunately, there are care staff
who do their job but do not connect with the residents - perhaps not having dementia training?

The care my mother received at Wytham House was good, and I am very grateful for that. However, I am posting a review now to alert potential clients that I am having enormous difficulty getting back money that I am owed by Aria Care. I don't know if I'm uniquely unlucky in this, or whether other clients
are finding the same. This is the straightforward repayment of a deposit, that was due in mid-March. At the time of writing (2 May) I am still waiting for the money to be credited to my account. In the only email I have received from the credit department (7 April) I was told that an invoice would be issued to me the following week. Still nothing, and I have been emailing to ask for updates.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Wytham HouseThank you for your comments, which we will pass on to the Finance team at Aria Care and ask to contact you. We pride ourselves on the resident experience and we are committed to using feedback to continue to build on, and improve, the services we provide.

The carers and staff are wonderful and have worked under immense pressure over recent years. I am grateful for the care given to Mum over many years. The reason for the four rather than five stars is the cost of care. I didn't give a rating for activities as Mum cannot partake in any.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.142)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.142) out of 10 for Wytham House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.667 for Wytham House is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.667
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.475 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wytham House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.875
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
