The Review Score of 9.8 (maximum of 10) for Wytham House - Residential/Nursing Dementia Care is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Wytham House - Residential/Nursing Dementia Care in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.849 for Wytham House - Residential/Nursing Dementia Care is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.849

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wytham House - Residential/Nursing Dementia Care is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My husband has been a resident for 12 months and during that time, has sadly deteriorated. Although the care he has received has been unfailingly excellent.; All the staff from the manager to the ancillary kitchen and maintenance staff are caring and dedicated to their resident's well-being.

Can never thank the staff enough at Wytham House for the way they look after my mother and all the residents. Kind, warm and lots of patience. They also make relatives welcome and at ease. Hard working but always with a smile. The home is clean and food excellent.

My very old father entered the home for a two-week respite, which we are now converting to permanent residency. He is not a particularly difficult or demanding resident, since he sleeps a lot, stays in his room, and doesn't take part in any activities. The staff have been unfailingly kind and patient with him, adjusting as far as they can to his needs, and allowing him to retain his dignity. The home is very welcoming of visitors and concerned to help them; my wife was impressed by the sense that all the people she met, from the receptionist to a random passing maintenance person, were keen to project a positive image of the home, which is always a key sign of an institution that is working well, and a credit to the management. The physical design of the rooms and the public areas is excellent. The outside environment is exceptionally pleasant. Travel into Oxford by bus is very convenient.

Wytham House has provided excellent care for my father since he arrived one year ago. Staff are always helpful, polite and make themselves available when we have questions. The food looks tasty and varied, and my father likes it. His room and all areas of the home are nicely furnished, his room is spacious with plenty of natural light, storage etc. The security arrangements seem to be fit for purpose and working well, parking is easy and near the entrance. Finance Dept is clear, prompt and helpful when we have had payment queries. Nursing staff are always ready to update us on my father's health, the staff handled a week-long hospital stay by my father very efficiently and were helpful with updates on his situation. There is a good activities programme on offer, there are really nice communal areas and facilities for visitors eg a comfortable lounge, cinema, children's play area, garden sitting area, leafy spacious grounds, tea and cake is available. It is always clean and tidy.

My father went to A&E at the J.R. hospital in Oxford. Wytham House staff liaised with the hospital to get him back and make him comfortable.
He was stressed and unhappy at A&E - he was so happy to be back at Wytham House, he sees it as his home and is very happy there.
Thank you all so much.

I am extremely happy with the care my Mother receives at Wytham House. Mum is in her 90s with memory problems. When I cared for her she could be very aggressive. At Wytham, the aggression has largely disappeared and traces of my Mother's normally pleasant personality have surfaced. Mum seems happy and tells me she enjoys life. The building is extremely well designed, in an attractive setting and the rooms are lovely. The staff treat my Mother with dignity and kindness. The staff check on Mum frequently. They manage to keep Mum and her room clean, which as she is doubly incontinent, is not easy. I find the nursing and housekeeping staff to be caring and efficient and very responsive to any requests. My Mother enjoys the food and mealtimes are a highlight of her day. The new Director who arrived at the end of last year has worked very hard to ensure the care at Wytham is up to the high standard that was promised. I believe she is succeeding.

We placed my mother here for a 2 weeks respite stay. The staff were very friendly and eager to help, my mother's behaviour was not easy to manage but they did their best and only called me a couple of times to report problems. They appropriately requested the local GP to review her twice. The accommodation is very new, smart, easy to navigate, smells pleasant and the atmosphere is mostly calm. Outdoor access limited in winter, I think will be much nicer in summer and when footpaths completed.

Thank you for your positive review of Wytham House. We are delighted that you were so pleased with the level of care and thank you for your comments about the overall standard of our home. We build our care team to ensure they are able to provide person-centred care and spend valuable time with our residents. We have a programme of works planned for additions to the paths and landscaping which will enhance the environment around our home and once the weather improves, we will be carrying out more outside activities for our residents to enjoy. We always welcome the opportunity to improve and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home.

My mother moved to Wytham House in August. My family have been very pleased with the care she is receiving. Her new room is beautiful and she enjoys the space and the lovely gardens. The staff are excellent and very welcoming to visitors. There is always a cup of tea on offer! It is a great relief to me to know that my mother who is 91 is being really well looked after.

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

As the Manager of Wytham House, I lead my professional team in providing the highest standard
of specialist dementia care set in the enviable surroundings of the Oaken Holt Estate. With a
background in learning disabilities nursing, I bring a unique perspective to my role and work hard to
deliver the highest level of person-centred care for those living at Wytham House.

I gained my qualification in Learning Disability Nursing from the University of Southampton in
2001 which provided me with the foundation for my subsequent work supporting people with complex health and psychological needs across a range of clinical settings. I have also achieved two
management qualifications; General Management and the Adult Residential Management Award.

Notable career achievements include a role at Douglas House, the world’s first hospice for young adults, which was an ‘awe inspiring’ place to work and recently as Registered Manager at Mill House, a sister home specialising in residential, nursing and dementia care where I was proud to see the difference we can make to people’s lives. I look forward to bringing my extensive experience and enthusiasm to Wytham House to not only provide great care but to enhance the specialist offering at our home.

Prior to joining Caring Homes, I worked as an assessor for the Oxfordshire Continuing Healthcare department for nearly four years. As my role involved visiting many care homes and carrying out live case assessments, I chose to work for Caring Homes as I felt the company had the warmest family feel and where the care of the residents is always the main focus.

Having lived in the Cotswolds for over a decade, I take full advantage of the local area and lead an active lifestyle away from work. When I’m not letting off steam in the gym or at the local swimming pool, I can often be found supporting the local, national, cricket and rugby teams. I also enjoy travelling ‘anywhere near the sea’ and spending time with my family and friends.
