They say that first impressions last and Porterbrook Care Home is testament to the saying. When we went to view the home for a suitable and dignified place for my father, we were impressed. 2 months on and we are still impressed. Management are approachable, Administration / Reception very professional and always return messages / correspondence and the actual staff that perform the caring duties are incredible / sincere and are so polite and pleased to speak to you. They way they speak and interact with the residents with dignity and respect is a pleasure to observe. Everybody makes visitors feel welcome and nothing seams too much trouble. However aircon would be a significant improvement.

My mum has been living at Porterbrook Care Home for a year now, and from our very first visit, we were extremely impressed. The home felt clean, safe, welcoming, and full of genuinely happy staff.
We visit regularly and have never had any reason for concern. The standard of care is consistently excellent, and the communication from the team is fantastic. They are always willing to help me speak with my mum over the phone, which means a lot as she isn't able to use a mobile herself.

The home is always clean and well maintained, and most importantly, my mum is clearly very well cared for. Living a long way from Sheffield, it gives me real peace of mind knowing she is in such good hands, surrounded by friendly staff who truly care.

The whole team are wonderful, but a special shout-out to Kev and Mel from me - they are absolutely fantastic.

Overall Experience
Porterbrook is a lovely care home. My mum has been a resident now or 6 months and is very well looked after.
Mum has had Parkinson's for several years and we had come to a point where we were really struggling to care for Mum at home and it became obvious Mum needed much more care/supervision than we as a family could provide at home. Mum was also super lonely at home on her own just with our immediate family visits.
Mum is now not only cared for with daily personal care but also, she is monitored for her health conditions daily. Porterbrook have a regular doctor's practice attached to the home who have and are also providing excellent medical care for Mum.
The home also provides daily activities for their residents, which are varied and fun. Mum quite often gets involved with and enjoys. Mum is not lonely anymore.
The home is always very clean. It has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and it's a pleasure to visit Mum at Porterbrook - all the staff greet us warmly and provide updates on Mum's general wellbeing as well as any ongoing health issues. The food id really good too. Mum has even put a little weight i which is great.
As a family we are really happy with the care provided to Mum by all involved and we feel much more relaxed ourselves because of this.

To all the staff which includes the reception staff, all the lovely carers, the activity team, the seniors, to the hairdressing team, to the housekeeping and cooks and the management; a big thank you from us for looking after Mum. We really appreciate all your efforts.

I visited my friend who came into Porterbrook just before Christmas 2024/ I was aked by the family to wait until she has settled in before I visited. My friend looks so happy and well because she is obviously being looked after so well. I could not have been more impressed with the facilities at Portersbrook. The staff were so friendly and engaged with the residents. I have visited quite a few care homes where friends with dementia live and quite honestly feel that Portersbrook is the best one I have visited.

My Dad arrived at Porterbrook in November 2022 and slotted in very easily as he had mixed dementia and I honestly think he thought he was in a hotel with us. Staff have been so understanding and made Dad feel comfortable and at home, he always had a smile when we'd visit, and though he couldn't participate much in the many activities, he loved listening to the buzz in the lounge and he absolutely enjoyed the food. Before he recently went to hospital, one of the last things he was known to do himself was finish a bowl of their pudding ! Thankyou to the whole team for providing this experience for Dad xx

My mother lived at Porterbrook for the final two years of her life. She was 94 and had full mental capacity but was confined to a wheelchair and needed 24 hour help and care. The staff at Porterbrook were kind and gentle in caring for her, respectful of her expressed wishes and appreciative of her cheerful demeanour and humour. In the last few weeks of her life when she requested not to be admitted to hospital, she received exemplary care. The family were also welcomed and cared for at all times of day and night when Porterbrook became our home-from-home.

Porterbrook has a team of exceptionally committed staff. During the worst snow of winter I was with my mother overnight and many of the care team walked for up to two hours to get to work, arriving like snowmen emerging from the dark, and embarking on their day with the same friendly compassionate efficiency as always. Over the time my mother lived at Porterbrook the staff became friends and I will miss them very much.

The staff at The Porterbrook Care Home are outstanding. At all levels from the receptionist, seniors and maintenance guys - their concern is for the well-being of the residents. Everyone goes above and beyond to support not just the physical but emotional needs of the residents. The facilities are excellent and feel more like a hotel than a care home. The hair and nail salon staff are wonderful and make sure the residents look their best. Activities staff try to keep people engaged and provide a variety of activities.

I have been very pleasantly surprised at how good my experience has been at The Porterbrook Care Home. Each and every one of the staff is first-class, friendly, obliging and goes out of their way to help. The facilities are excellent, my hair is washed and blow-dried on a weekly basis, I have had a manicure and a pedicure. I use the quiet room to enjoy a good read and at other times socialise with other residents. My room is kept spotlessly clean too!

My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 5 years ago and her 3 week respite stay at Porterbrook Care Home was the first time that she had been away from home and from me. I was anxious and concerned how she would react to a period in a care home, I need not have worried. After a couple of days, she had settled in happily. The standard of care which she received from all the staff was excellent and I shall have no qualms in arranging further respite at Porterbrook, as my wife's condition progresses.
