My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 5 years ago and her 3 week respite stay at Porterbrook Care Home was the first time that she had been away from home and from me. I was anxious and concerned how she would react to a period in a care home, I need not have worried. After a couple of days, she had settled in happily. The standard of care which she received from all the staff was excellent and I shall have no qualms in arranging further respite at Porterbrook, as my wife's condition progresses.

The staff are a great team who always puts the needs of our residents first. We appreciate it is hard for loved ones to make the decision that a move to a care home is necessary and we strive to reassure and support relatives through the process as well as caring for the resident. It's good to hear that when you weren't happy the situation was dealt with appropriately and efficiently and you are overall happy with the care your husband is receiving. One to avoid. Dad was a resident Mar 2017 to Apr 2019 and from early 2022. Moved Dad end of Oct 2023 and despite repeated emails to the manager and Head Office we are yet to receive a refund for overpaid fees. Head Office replied stating the following ‘Sorry for your loss and condolences to you and your family’ and requesting a copy of the death certificate. Clueless! The Porterbrook Care Home is an exemplary haven for my husband. As a visitor, you are always met with a warm welcome. The facilities are equal to a boutique hotel due to imaginative decor, piano, coffee bar and hair salon which provides a good visit twice weekly. The ensuite and communal areas are meticulously clean thanks to the wonderful head housekeeper. All staff are caring, compassionate and genuinely interested in their residents. Chefs make delicious meals, pies, pastries and birthday cakes wonderful. Activities are high on the agenda to socialise. Would not hesitate to recommend it.

I hold The Porterbrook Care Home as a very high-quality residential home that goes above and beyond to ensure residents are cared for, engaged and happy. The facilities including the dining room, quiet lounge and cinema room are all immaculate and give residents lovely areas to relax and socialise with one another. The staff are constantly checking up on the residents and are extremely creative with the activities/events they complete with residents. I am very happy that my grandmother has moved to The Porterbrook as I believe they can provide her with the best care possible.

I'm unable to visit my mother very often but when I do I am always reassured that my mother is well cared for. All the staff seem very helpful and caring. Unfortunately, my mother is unable to move from her bed so is unable to take advantage of the activities and many of the activities available.

My husband has PCA, a rare form of dementia and has been at the Porterbrook for 4 years. I have been very impressed with the care that he has received and every time I visit him, he seems settled. I recently had a week's respite care for myself at the Porterbrook and it gave me the opportunity to observe the care that was being given 24/7. What immediately struck me was how lovely all the carers were with the residents and they obviously saw each one as an individual so their interactions with them varied according to what worked best. It is rare to be able to observe carers in action but I came away thinking that it would be impossible to find a better care home in terms of the support they give to the residents and to the relatives. It is clear that the manager, who has been in the post for about 18 months, has implemented processes which make everything run much more smoothly and there is always a cheerful atmosphere when I visit.

The staff do take the time to get to know each individual and it is lovely to hear that can be recognised. We pride ourselves on providing good quality, person-centred care here at The Porterbrook as well as offering support and comfort to relatives and to have the feedback that this is how we are perceived and is recognised is reassuring. My mum has been at Porter brook since March. I have found the staff very caring and engaging to both my mum and me. Mum enjoys her time with the staff and is happy living there. The staff are always positive and seem to really care about my mum and other residents. They are reassuring and caring on the one hand and also efficient and proactive when needed. I have every confidence in the staff and know my mum is being cared for and stimulated with activities when she wants to. She would definitely tell me and the staff if she was not happy.

My parents have settled well into Porterbrook and keep telling us how lovely it is, how kind the staff are and how well they are fed. Our experience of dealing with the staff has been excellent. The home is clean and tidy. They make every effort to have activities that suit all abilities.

The staff all have the right attitude, caring and kind. I was learning "how to be a good resident". For example, to avoid making demands on staff around the morning and evening change over time. Day and night I struggled by feeling too chilly. I had some help with adjusting the heating system and was given a blanket but I never really felt warm enough. (The ensuite was warmer). I liked the food especially the morning porridge. And the room service was really helpful. I took time to use the laundry system effectively. I could have asked for more help with my prescription medicines. Thank you all for your care.
