My mum has now been a resident here for ten months. Throughout this period Mum has received excellent care and attention. Glenholme Bispham Gardens is well-equipped to deal with all necessities in a modern and bright environment. Most of all, Mum and my family have been so impressed by the kindness and professionalism of the staff. From entering the building and the reception to the medical team and, of course, the caring team, everyone has been friendly, welcoming and professional.

My mum lived in Bispham Gardens for nineteen months, moving in a few months before her ninety-first birthday. At all times, I found the staff engaging and attentive to my mum's needs and welfare. Mum had a very nice en-suite room and the staff were keen to help her pursue her hobbies, taking her swimming and to the theatre. I can recommend Bispham Gardens wholeheartedly.

We find the staff and management to be extremely kind and welcoming.
My mum has settled in really well and is very well cared for.
The bedroom is light airy and spacious.
All the communal areas are accessible with lots of places to sit and watch the television or just to be quiet and reflective.

A good activity programme is in place.

Overall, my experience has been good, any issues I have I tell the care home and it is dealt with immediately. It has a friendly atmosphere, all staff are helpful and caring. There are always good food choices and my partner is happy and looked after.

Very happy with the level of care received by our family friend. She is treated with respect, the staff are very good and friendly. I have never been there when I haven't seen anyone cleaning, the whole place is spotless. We looked at many care homes before we found this one and we are pleased we did.

Overall this care home is a pleasant place to visit. I think my mum has settled into the home well.

My only complaint is on occasion there are two staff that don’t know the residents on my mum's floor. If possible there should always be one carer who knows the residents.

Reply from Penny Howard, Operations Manager at Bispham Gardens Care & Nursing Home

Thank you for your comments. We agree completely that there should always be staff who know your mum on duty. We endeavour to keep the same staff supporting people as this ensures continuity of care and provides reassurance to residents. However, there are occasions when maybe due to sickness or...

My partner is well looked after on the whole. The TV has been off in my partner's room for over a week, it is the only thing he relies on. He cannot eat and does not enter into any activities, he is bed bound. I don't think it is fair when it is the only bit of entertainment in my partner's life.

Absolutely not recommended.
Our lovely Dad arrived on Friday 19th August, on 20th August he was in his room flat on his bed, which should have been elevated, no one had checked on him in 2 hours, Dad was covered in phlegm.
My aunt asked for him to be elevated and the answer was a lack of staff.
Dad needed a nebuliser, there was no oxygen for him. In the evening no one attended Dad's alarm, he contacted family in London by way of face timing, as he had no voice but was demonstrating that no one was answering his alarm.
I had to call the care home to get an ambulance for my Dad to get him to A and E as his oxygen had gone seriously low.
My Dad should not have been offered a place at a home where there is not enough staff to answer a buzzer from a highly distressed patient.
This is being investigated as I type.
I am purely stating facts.

My darling Dad passed away 4 days later.

As a compassionate care provider, we understand that this comment has been made during a time of grief and upset for the family and we are sorry for their loss.

We remain shocked and saddened by their account as it does not reflect our service expectations, experiences and ethos, as demonstrated...

My father (94 years) was admitted to Glenholme Bispham Gardens after weeks of being shunted around hospital wards. My immediate impression was very positive. The staff were very welcoming and I was struck by their caring and professional attitude. The home is clearly well equipped and was spotlessly clean. It is early days but I feel certain that my dad is in the right place to meet his needs.

Not recommended. Dad arrived here mobile and lucid. 2 days later, there was blood in his catheter bag, which recurred at least 3 times over the following week. Nobody told us this. Dad became more and more lethargic over the following few days. Mum twice found him asleep at the dining table with cold food in front of him, the second time also down his clothes. A week after his arrival, Dad was admitted to hospital with reduced urinary output, a urinary tract infection, hypernatremia and enlarged kidneys. He spent 14 days in hospital and then having been discharged back into the care of the home, he passed away 10 days later, a little over 4 weeks after his initial arrival at Bispham Gardens. Adult Social Care investigated and upheld a Safeguarding concern, which they reported to the CQC. The home accepted that they should have made GP contact sooner than they did. I make no specific complaints or allegations. I state facts. I would not recommend this care home.

Reply from Penny Howard, Operations Manager at Bispham Gardens Care & Nursing Home

These concerns were fully investigated both internally and by the safeguarding team. A full apology has been offered, there were also several mitigating factors which are not identified in the review.

My husband has been twice for respite. He was treated with respect and kindness. The staff were wonderful, he settled no problem. From my point of view, I was very content leaving him there. The place is clean and bright with a lovely atmosphere. So very pleased I have found this gem of a care home. Many, many thanks to all.

I am only here for a short while this is my 16th day here. I have no experience of these places just heard lots of stories about them. From the time I arrived I have found the home brilliant the staff at all levels are helpful, polite and friendly and willing to help in any way they can even if it's not in their job discretion. If I was ever in the situation where I need to be in a home long term I would certainly try and get a place here. If any staff read this, thank you.

I stayed at Bispham Gardens for 3 months after having my leg amputated. It was a very difficult time for me but the day and night staff could not do enough to help me and cheer me up. Anything I needed they provided. All the staff were helpful and very friendly. I felt so comfortable I could not fault this home at all, to me it felt like I was living in a hotel after being in hospital. The home manager was very friendly and helpful and provided me with all the information I required so I didn’t have to worry about anything during my stay and was very supportive of me when I was feeling down. Thank you for making my stay wonderful.

As a family, we cannot thank Bispham Gardens enough for the excellent care they have given my mum during the past 6 months. Although she was not there very long it gave us great peace of mind (especially during these difficult times where we cannot visit our loved ones in person) to know that she was in an environment where she was being very well looked after and more importantly was surrounded by people who genuinely cared about her. Bispham Gardens went out of their way to help us communicate with our mum via face time and our constant phone calls were always dealt with understanding and patience. Sadly our lovely mum passed away in January and although we were unable to be with her in her final hours it gave us much comfort to know that one of the lovely nurses who cared for her was with her and she was not alone. I would (and already have) highly recommend Bispham Gardens to anyone who has had to make the heartbreaking decision to put their loved one into a nursing home.

Sister had 7-day respite here - she has been very well cared for by the staff, who went above and beyond in their care for her and made her feel special. The manager is an absolute angel, could not have done enough for my sister. My sister is like a new happier version of herself thanks to you all. The only negative was the fact she was only there a week, wish it was longer! This is the kind of place I would want for my sister in the near future. This is how nursing homes should be.

This home was fantastic in the latter stages of my nan's life. The staff were incredibly caring and made us all feel very welcome in a time that was difficult for us all, as we had to accept that she couldn't be cared for independently by ourselves. I could not recommend, Bispham Gardens enough. If the need was ever there again, for a family member to need close care, I would not hesitate to use Bispham Gardens Again. The Team does a remarkable job in making everyone in your family comfortable with the level of care your loved one needs.

When we found Bispham Gardens it was an immense relief. We had thought that making the decision to find a residential place for a family member was the difficult part; we certainly hadn't appreciated how hard it would be to find a suitable one. We were immediately impressed by the clean, spacious, friendly environment at Bispham Gardens and the professionalism of the Manager and her staff. Our mother/mother-in-law has received tremendous care and support from a team who have taken the time and trouble to understand her and her needs and have her best interests at heart at all times. Over the last few months, our regular video calls have kept us in touch and we are very grateful to everyone who has facilitated these meetings for us in such a thoughtful way. We can't wait to visit her again and thank everyone in person.

My husband has been a resident at Bispham gardens for 15 months, and it has been reassuring to know that he is well cared for and happy. It was a very hard decision to place him in a home, as we have been married 25 years, however it was a necessity due to his dementia, and whilst in there he has flourished with the care and attention he receives at the home.
Although we cannot go into the home they continue to go out of their way to keep as much contact as possible with portal calls twice a week.
Although during this time where the staff will be concerned for not only the residents' health but their own, this has never shown and they continue to answer any questions with a smile.

They really are the Care in Care home, and I send a big thank you to all the staff.

We moved our lovely Dad/Grampy to Bispham Gardens after grave concerns over his health and welfare in the previous nursing home just prior to and during lockdown, so much so that we moved him in the middle of the Covid pandemic. Bispham Gardens was our only choice as we'd been highly recommended by several people we knew who already had relatives there. Dad was very frail physically and mentally when he arrived at Bispham Gardens but within two weeks, the difference was just staggering. Dad had put 6lb on in just this short time, he was hoisted into a lovely comfy chair every day and moved to various lounges. He was dapper, clean, chatty and most importantly, visibly happy. Bispham Gardens staff are exceptional and apart from being a home, because that really is what it is, the place runs on true kindness, care and dignity. Our children actually asked if good care could really make that much difference. "Yes" is the answer. Our only regret is that we didn't move Dad sooner. Deep and lifelong gratitude to you all.
