Avonmere Care Home is located in Downend, South Gloucestershire, near the Willy Wicket Inn on the northern outskirts of Bristol, easily accessible from the M32, M4 and M5. The home offers respite and residential care spans three floors, with one dedicated to dementia care.

Avonmere features its own hair salon, therapy suite and minibus as well as a beautiful garden for residents to enjoy and the home welcomes couples and their companions, where their well-being, comfort and happiness are of utmost importance.

The home is clean and residents are treated with dignity and respect. We have experienced the ground floor and the memory floor and found the standard of care to be of high quality in both areas with staff making time to speak with the residents. Nothing appears to be too much trouble. We do accept
that at times residents may have to wait for things as other residents' needs have to be prioritised. Overall a positive experience with no reasons for complaint.

Overall we have had a very good experience. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our relative feels at home and is generally happy. The activities team are particularly impressive. We have had a problem with mistakes over billings meaning that we were billed too much on several occasions and it has taken
a long time to sort out.

Mother has been here for over 12 months and in that period she has been looked after by the staff in an excellent way. All staff have been caring and polite. Mother is very happy at Avonmere. The room is excellent as is the choice of food. Staff are always helpful. Mother enjoys some of the activities
available. She is always treated with dignity and enjoys talking to certain members of staff. Excellent service, a credit to you all.

It is impossible to put into words how wonderful the care is at Avonmere. The staff are always kind, compassionate and friendly. Everyone treats my mum with kindness and affection. They all go extra mile to give the residents the best care they can.
As a nurse and a relative, I have been to many care
homes and I have never come across one that is as outstanding as Avonmere. I cannot thank the staff enough and I can always rest assured that my mum is well cared for.

My mother was offered a respite stay at Avonmere with a view to becoming a permanent resident. She was allowed to stay as a respite break for 6 weeks, but was so happy with everything, she decided after 2 weeks that she wanted to become a permanent resident. She’s now been there for 2 months and it
has changed her life. She has become much more sociable and relaxed. She joins in with all of the activities and is looking so much better for it. She is 90 years of age.

My mother has been a resident here for a year now. We looked at several care homes but selected this one as the staff really do care! They don't plonk residents in front of the TV unlike other homes we looked at, but spend time talking and interacting with them and genuinely appear to enjoy spending
time with residents. The manager is very responsive on the one occasion I raised a concern he came to see us immediately, listened and understood and explained what would happen along with an apology. The food is very good, the rooms are huge so Mum was able to bring a lot of her furniture and belongings with her, important for someone with dementia. There are plenty of places to sit with a cuppa both in and out, and I count the staff as friends who I look forward to chatting to when I visit. The hairdresser is very flexible and will tailor her approach to how Mum is feeling. The visiting activity staff also have the right balance of friendliness, humour, empathy and endless patience.

Mum originally went here for respite but has now become a permanent resident. The decor throughout is modern but homely with tasteful ornaments, lamps etc. Her room is beautiful, like a suite in a hotel with a patio door through to the lovely garden. The carers (and reception staff) here are absolutely
brilliant and laugh and joke with mum, they are always pleasant. Mum is encouraged to walk to the dining room which is light and airy and she can socialise with the other residents. The food is nice, recently mum had a fancy for some chocolate, they brought her a little plate with some chocolate biscuits on. That's really going the extra mile for the residents. It's nice that there is a tea and coffee machine for visitors to use so we can sit and have a cuppa with mum. There are plenty of activities singers, dancing crafts etc which you can choose to participate in if you like. I really don't feel like mum has gone here to vegetate but to continue living her life with a bit of help.

My mum has been a resident for just under one week. All the staff have made her feel very welcome. The level of care has been very good. Mum has mobility issues, and the manager and his team have been very supportive of her needs, giving encouragement to build her confidence.

I love working at Avonmere as I have a passion and drive to enhance the lives of others and walk alongside those on their care home journey to ensure a smooth transition during, what can be, such a difficult time. I have worked as a care assistant and a senior care, which is where I found my love for working in older adult care. I then completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health Nursing. After finishing my degree, I worked in various roles within nursing care, including RSM, deputy and now Home Manager.

Hi, I am the wellbeing & activities coordinator. I have worked at Avonmere for 3 years. My main goal is to promote positive wellbeing via providing activities and trips tailored to each residents needs and interests. My qualifications include a distinction in Health and Social Care Cambridge Nationals, biology a level and psychology a level. I am also currently completing an NVQ in Leading Activities within a care environment.

Debra has worked at Avonmere for nearly 3 years as a Sous chef, and throughout these years, she has shown amazing commitment and hard work in providing personalised and tasty meals to our residents.
Before joining the Avonmere team, she ran pubs for over 20 years. At this time, she mastered the skills required to lead a small team.


A fun fact about her is that she loves dancing and enjoys showing off her moves at every Avonmere party!
Deb is excited to take on this new role and continue to provide nutritious and exciting meals!
