Avonmere Care Home is located in Downend, South Gloucestershire, near the Willy Wicket Inn on the northern outskirts of Bristol, easily accessible from the M32, M4 and M5. The home offers respite and residential care spans three floors, with one dedicated to dementia care.

Avonmere features its own hair salon, therapy suite and minibus as well as a beautiful garden for residents to enjoy and the home welcomes couples and their companions, where their well-being, comfort and happiness are of utmost importance.

Staff focus on meeting the needs of each resident, ensuring physical and emotional well-being for a fulfilling and happy quality of life. Recognising the potential stress of a late-life change, such as moving from a family home, they strive to make the transition as smooth as possible, offering peace of mind to all involved.

Wellbeing is supported through various physical, social and psychological activities. Such as regular exercise classes, (including tai chi and Pilates), animal therapy, live entertainment and community events. Mini bus trips occur once a week, taking the residents to well loved destinations including the local driving range, cafes, the zoo and local swimming pool. One to one activities are offered to those who wish to avoid group activities.

Regular updates on the home's activities are shared on the Facebook page and the new wellbeing app called Relish, fostering connections between the team, residents and their loved ones.

For those seeking dementia care homes in Bristol, Avonmere may be the ideal choice. Expert staff are trained to cater to residents with various care requirements. Rigorous staff selection and thorough training guarantee that residents living with dementia receive the highest quality care.

Mum originally went here for respite but has now become a permanent resident. The decor throughout is modern but homely with tasteful ornaments, lamps etc. Her room is beautiful, like a suite in a hotel with a patio door through to the lovely garden. The carers (and reception staff) here are absolutely
brilliant and laugh and joke with mum, they are always pleasant. Mum is encouraged to walk to the dining room which is light and airy and she can socialise with the other residents. The food is nice, recently mum had a fancy for some chocolate, they brought her a little plate with some chocolate biscuits on. That's really going the extra mile for the residents. It's nice that there is a tea and coffee machine for visitors to use so we can sit and have a cuppa with mum. There are plenty of activities singers, dancing crafts etc which you can choose to participate in if you like. I really don't feel like mum has gone here to vegetate but to continue living her life with a bit of help.
Reply from Rachel Aran, Marketing Administrator at Avonmere Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to review Avonmere Care Home in Bristol. We are delighted that your mum enjoyed her respite stay with us and decided to become a permanent member of our loving care community. It is lovely to hear that she has soon settled into her new surroundings and enjoys joining in with the daily activities provided by our talented well-being team. We always encourage our residents to invite visitors in for a cuppa and a chat, we look forward to seeing you on your next visit. Thank you again for your kind words, I will be sure to pass them on to the rest of the staff team, Best wishes, Rachel.

Everyone has been supportive regarding my aunt. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. I had an issue, the manager responded straight away and dealt with it in a very professional manner and has an open-door policy which is fantastic. I would highly recommend Avonmere to anyone who needs extra

We have found Avonmere very good, their care of my father has been excellent. He has settled very well and I feel that is down to the care and attention Avonmere have given him. The main thing is he is safe and he feels that within the building.

Avonmere care home is truly excellent. The care, professional approach is displayed by all staff involved in my father's care. The building being 'purpose built' for care of the elderly is functional (wide corridors) with excellent facilities for the residents, dining room, library, garden room, games
room (chess etc), cinema room and hairdressers. There is a lift to access the cinema and hairdressers and a wonderful 'activities programme'. The gardens are beautiful and all services provided within COVID guidelines.

I live alone in a studio flat with a very noisy neighbour in flat above mine and building contractors on site replacing roof on adjacent building and the noise and upheaval is not good for me being in poor health. I have atrial fibrillation and heart issues and needed to get away. Sometimes I need medical
assistance, so a hotel was not suitable. So it was suggested for me to go for respite care, like we did for my late mother. I'm self-funded so enquired about possibilities locally and found Avonmere Care Home for my care. As the COVID-19 pandemic was, and still is, in full swing there are lots of safety issues and they are handled well. I have been very comfortable at Avonmere and the staff of carers have been excellent and very friendly and treated me with respect. However the food has been unsatisfactory by my standards. It must be difficult catering on a large scale but when soup is served with two small pieces of bread, that a child could eat, where do my ££££'s go?

We were greeted on arrival with great courtesy and were very impressed with everything we saw and heard, including the attention given to each resident we met, on the ground floor and in the dementia area on the first floor. My husband appeared to settle quite well but after a few days in the nighttime,
he was very disorientated and apparently entered other peoples bedroom trying to strip their beds. This situation the staff could not cope with and there was no apparent security to prevent this. We were asked to take him home early. It seems that this establishment, although new, really do not understand dementia in its more advanced stage. We also lost a pair of blue pyjama trousers even though correctly name marked how could this possibly happen?

My stay of 13 days was pleasant. Everyone was kind, welcoming and considerate. Meals were well planned and enjoyable. It was disappointing however not to be registered with a surgery whilst there. I had need of medical attention which was not forthcoming. This should be addressed for short-term residents.

We are pleased to have found a first-class, local care home at Avonmere.
On entering the foyer it is bright and airy, the friendly receptionists greet, welcome and help the residents, families and visitors. Avonmere is like a 5* hotel,m superb decor in the resident's lounge, dining room, library, games
room, cinema, hair salon with lovely garden areas. The management team are hands-on, friendly and very approachable doing their utmost to ensure all is well with needs met.
The nursing, carer's, catering, hospitality and maintenance staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble, they certainly work hard keeping residents happy, cared for and feeling an individual. Mum's needs are met by the activities team with a full schedule each day, the TV is long forgotten!
It is a new style care home having a forward-thinking approach to the needs of those in their care whom love to now call it their home.
This is lovely to hear and know it is a worry taken from us. We are pleased we made an excellent choice and ultimately Mum is loved, well cared for, comfortable and very happy doing far more than she has been able to do in years.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.828)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.828) out of 10 for Avonmere Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.828 for Avonmere Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.828
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Avonmere Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
