Dad has been a resident for 6 months, having decided he did not want the worry of his own home. He feels comfortable and at home here.
The staff have kept us informed of his progress and any problems.

Since my friend has been at the care home, I've been very satisfied with the care she has received from the staff and, in particular, the nursing staff. With the absence of a permanent activities organiser, I find that the residents are now at a loose end and have nothing to look forward to, like they
used to. Hopefully, this can be sorted very soon.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that you are satisfied with the care your friend has received, particularly from our nursing and care staff.

We also appreciate your comments regarding activities and understand how important structured engagement is for residents' wellbeing. Please be assured that this is being actively reviewed, and we hope to have improvements in place very soon.

Thank you again for your honest and valuable feedback.

On the whole, the care is very good. The staff are kind and attentive. Everywhere is smart and clean, and my mum is well-fed and looked after.
There is a new activities coordinator that needs more support from management to differentiate activities.

Mum is well cared for, and her needs are met. She is bed bound, so therefore spends a lot of her time in her room. The carers sit and keep her company when they can. She doesn't access the dining room, lounge, or activities as doesn't like being hoisted, and this is the only way of mobilising her. The
staff try their best to encourage her to engage more, but unfortunately, she is non-compliant.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that your mum is well cared for and that her needs are met, particularly given her limited mobility.

Our team understand the importance of companionship, and we are glad that staff are able to spend time with her in her room when possible. We also appreciate your comments regarding mobility and engagement, and will continue to gently encourage her participation in ways that respect her wishes and comfort.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and honest review.

I have found that all the personnel in the care home have treated my wife with respect and dignity. They all know her name and are always smiling when they see her. As she is not mobile, she finds it hard to do all the activities; however, the staff do entertain her, within the activities, she is able
to partake in.

The admission of our father to this nursing home was difficult for our family to come to terms with, but all the staff, from the manager to all the carers has made the transition as good as it could be. Overall, the care has been really good, and when issues have arisen, the nurses and senior staff
have responded and tried to address any concerns as quickly as possible.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for your kind feedback. Mum moved into High Meadows in July this year and has been so happy and well cared for. The 18th October was her 100th birthday. A party was held and all the staff went over and beyond to make it the most wonderful occasion. The room was beautifully decorated and the cake was so delicious .. cooked
at the home. I am constantly delighted in how the staff care and interact with mum. She is enjoying her life now at High Meadows.

My mother was in for 2 weeks respite care following a fall. She needed help with washing, dressing herself and changing her dressing. The staff were all lovely. The nurse used Elastoplast on a 92 year old. This is painful on thin skin. My mother was not given enough fluid and ended up dehydrated in
hospital for a day. This needs rectifying for future residents. On 2 occasions, we could not find any staff to sign her out.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear of your concerns and welcome the opportunity to respond. According to our care records, your mother was drinking well during her stay and there were no indications of dehydration at the time. We were also never informed that she became dehydrated or required a hospital visit, certainly not whilst at High Meadows. We can also confirm that Elastoplast is not used in our home. No concerns or complaints were raised with us by your mother or family members during her stay and, had we been made aware, we would have investigated immediately. With regard to outings, we kindly remind families that it is important to inform staff when taking residents out, so we can ensure their safety. Our reception and unit staff are normally present, and it is very unusual for no one to be visible unless an emergency requires staff to attend elsewhere. We remain committed to providing safe, supportive, and high-quality care for all our residents.

We are so pleased that we found High Meadows for our dear mother who has looked after others all her life and now deserves to be looked after herself.

Mum has lived at High Meadows for 7 months now and has settled in well to the new routine and friendly and helpful staff. Initially her room was

upstairs, but she moved downstairs to a room with a little garden when one became available. She now enjoys the activities the home organizes and the last time I visited she was very happy arranging fresh flowers as part of the activity. Sometimes live performers come to the home to entertain the residents. I am pleased that mum is taken outside for activities when the weather allows.

A few weeks ago our mother had her 100th birthday and the care home pulled out all the stops for a fabulous family birthday tea. They went over and above what we expected, thank you to all those concerned.

I would like to thank all the staff for everything they do for mum and totally recommend High Meadows.

My mother moved into High Meadows for end of life care where she stayed for 6 weeks up until her dignified and peaceful death. She and all of us who visited her were shown the utmost respect and compassion by all care staff, regardless of their role. The staff understood and responded sensitively to
her needs, and listened and acted upon any concerns we expressed. Her care plan was regularly reviewed to ensure her symptoms were controlled and she was comfortable. We will never forget the kindness at such a distressing time. The staff communicated well with us, as well as members of the palliative care team, ensuring Mum's best interests were paramount.

From the outset, the manager and admin team were professional, welcoming and efficient. Her room was comfortable and clean, and her privacy and dignity maintained at all times.

We knew Mum was in safe hands right from the outset.

Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you so much for your heartfelt words. High Meadows is always a welcoming environment. The staff are friendly and willing to help with any enquiries. I was impressed with the surroundings and the standard of care and cleanliness. I have visited a number of care homes in the past while looking for a residence for my mother and only regret
that this home was not open then.
I am not normally at the home when meals are served but my aunt has always enjoyed the food and loves the homemade cake with tea in the afternoon. The carers always greet her by name even though she no longer hears them.
Relatives were kept informed and reassured during the recent coronavirus incident, masks, gloves and gowns were provided for any visitors and additional cleaning was carried out.
There is a good variety of activities provided for residents each month.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Manager at High MeadowsThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. We are committed to ensuring that all our residents feel cared for and valued and we're glad that this has been reflected in your aunt's experience. Thank you for your continued trust and support. Upstairs residents appear to be left out of entertainment schedule, most of the time. No stimulation. Sometimes they are unattended in lounge or bedroom whilst staff are in meetings. On one occasion someone needed personal care, but no staff on hand, even though resident was calling out.
Staff very
pleasant, and willing and caring, when around. Activities organiser post mostly vacant. Food menu has not much variety for those on soft food diet.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for sharing your feedback. Please be assured that we are committed to offering a variety of activities and we work hard to fill any vacant roles in the Home to ensure we have the right people to meet our residents' needs. We always consider each resident's preferences and health conditions when planning activities. While some may not participate in group sessions, we offer 1-1 activities tailored to their needs, which may not always be immediately visible but still provide valuable engagement. Regarding the soft food menu, we ensure it follows the daily menu as closely as possible, providing choices where we can. For residents who are unable to express preferences, we follow their care plans and consult families for guidance. If you'd like to discuss in more detail, I'd be happy to arrange a meeting at your convenience. Thank you once again for bringing your valuable feedback to our attention as we continue to enhance the care and experience for all of our residents.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.555)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.555) out of 10 for High Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.555 for High Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (329 Excellents x 5) + (120 Goods x 4) + (32 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 490 Ratings = 4.555
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for High Meadows is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
