My father has now been in the home for some months, and I, together with other family members, have been able to judge the care more fully. During this time, we have found the care to be very good. Things don't always work perfectly, but after highlighting concerns, most of the staff have responded
promptly. There are some aspects of the care we think could be better, but I think that would be true anywhere.

My dad was welcomed recently, initially for a 3 month period, which has now been made permanent. He is very happy and well cared for. His family are relieved to know that he is safe and feels secure. In a very difficult time, all the staff have made the move to the home as stress-free as possible.

Mum has been a resident for 9 months. She is settled. The staff are warm and caring, and mum's needs are met.
The home is clean and well maintained. They have a variety of activities on offer, but unfortunately, Mum won't participate. They have a variety of things on the menu, but portions can be small.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for your feedback and for your kind comments about our staff and the care your mum receives. We are pleased to hear that she has settled well and that you are happy with the cleanliness and environment of the home.

We understand that every resident has different preferences regarding social activities. Our team regularly encourages residents to participate and offers a variety of options, while always respecting individual choice and comfort. Your mum is often invited to join activities, however she frequently prefers not to participate, and we fully respect her wishes.

We were also sorry to read your comments regarding portion sizes, as this has not previously been raised with us. Your mum is always offered additional servings if requested.

We would be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss your experience further and address any concerns.

I am the niece of a resident.
My aunt has been at High Meadows since 2020. We have been very impressed with the level of care and how the staff work to integrate my aunt into the community. They always speak to her when they bring in food for her. As she is now nearly 97 and not mobile, she is limited
in the activities she can participate in.

It is 11 months since I last wrote a review for High Meadows, and mum has now lived here for 18 months.
She is totally content at High Meadows, and the staff understands her needs, likes and dislikes. Mum's memory is not so good these days, which is understandable as she will be 101 years old in 5
days time. She remembers that she asked to move to a care home because she does not want to think anymore.
High Meadows fulfils her needs and feels like home to her now. High Meadows welcomes visitors, and staff are always friendly and welcoming when we visit. Mum cannot remember what happens from hour to hour, but the staff tell us what is important.
I still would highly recommend High Meadows for others looking for a care home, and cannot thank the staff enough for the way they care for mum.

Since my friend has been at the care home, I've been very satisfied with the care she has received from the staff and, in particular, the nursing staff. With the absence of a permanent activities organiser, I find that the residents are now at a loose end and have nothing to look forward to, like they
used to. Hopefully, this can be sorted very soon.

Mum moved into High Meadows in July this year and has been so happy and well cared for. The 18th October was her 100th birthday. A party was held and all the staff went over and beyond to make it the most wonderful occasion. The room was beautifully decorated and the cake was so delicious .. cooked
at the home. I am constantly delighted in how the staff care and interact with mum. She is enjoying her life now at High Meadows.

My mother was in for 2 weeks respite care following a fall. She needed help with washing, dressing herself and changing her dressing. The staff were all lovely. The nurse used Elastoplast on a 92 year old. This is painful on thin skin. My mother was not given enough fluid and ended up dehydrated in
hospital for a day. This needs rectifying for future residents. On 2 occasions, we could not find any staff to sign her out.
Reply from Mariana Costa, Home Manager at High MeadowsThank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear of your concerns and welcome the opportunity to respond. According to our care records, your mother was drinking well during her stay and there were no indications of dehydration at the time. We were also never informed that she became dehydrated or required a hospital visit, certainly not whilst at High Meadows. We can also confirm that Elastoplast is not used in our home. No concerns or complaints were raised with us by your mother or family members during her stay and, had we been made aware, we would have investigated immediately. With regard to outings, we kindly remind families that it is important to inform staff when taking residents out, so we can ensure their safety. Our reception and unit staff are normally present, and it is very unusual for no one to be visible unless an emergency requires staff to attend elsewhere. We remain committed to providing safe, supportive, and high-quality care for all our residents.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for High Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 43 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.550 for High Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (337 Excellents x 5) + (120 Goods x 4) + (36 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 502 Ratings = 4.55
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for High Meadows is based on 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 41 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
