Mum initially went into respite care in December 2019. However, dementia diagnoses and now in the dementia unit, the care and support received from High Meadows have been excellent - the team are mindful of not only treating my mum with respect but me too. Lockdown has been exceptionally difficult,
but I am confident all that could have been done, has been done.

Under the present ongoing circumstances with no access to the home for many months, it is difficult to give my views. Having only 2 or 3 external visits lately my answers can only be based on what my wife tells me. I can see when visiting that she is happy and contented and pleased with the staff.

Since arriving at the care home I have been well looked after with kindness. I've also been encouraged to mix with other residents and join in with any activities. It was strange at first but we got used to it. Medical needs are kept an eye on.

After my wife died 2 years ago, my family decided that I should not look after myself and recommended me to move to High Meadows. Since moving here I have felt very much at home, and the prospect of spending the rest of my life here is the best future I can imagine.

In these worrying times, High Meadows has been very good at keeping us informed and video call to our mum. She is always happy with her care and when she has an issue she is happy to raise her concerns. We are fortunate to be able to visit (pre-COVID) weekly so spent much time in High Meadows.

The managers is a warm, kind and welcoming person, she is an excellent manager and really tries to help settle elderly people into High Meadows.
The staff are kind, friendly and efficient. It is a clean, smart, casual home and does give the feeling one is in their own home rather than a care institution.
Also, one member of staff is very efficient and a hard-working nurser. My friend is very happy in High Meadows.

A beautiful care home - more like a hotel! Mum had 2 weeks respite here and was treated with the utmost respect by all staff. The care she received was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, and staff carry out their duties with concern for the residents as well as always smiling! The support they gave
us as a family was also invaluable and very much appreciated.

I find this care home efficient, friendly and extremely helpful. In fact, I feel and so do all my relatives and friends that I could not have chosen better. The only thing I lack is a landline number but I believe this is in hand.

We immediately liked the home when we first walked in. It is much roomier than most and we were impressed by the manager. Care of my father has been excellent. The staff identified a chest infection before we or my father had picked up on it and as a result, he was being treated at least 24 hours earlier.
My father is very happy there and considers the care and facilities to be excellent. Perhaps the cost is a little more expensive than some others in the area. But we consider it to be well worth it.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.550)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.550) out of 10 for High Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 43 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.550 for High Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (337 Excellents x 5) + (120 Goods x 4) + (36 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 502 Ratings = 4.55
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for High Meadows is based on 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 41 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
