Nestled in beautiful countryside surroundings, Mulberry House is a striking and much-loved home, recently renovated and thoughtfully designed throughout. Residential care is provided alongside support for individuals living with mild dementia. Whether the need is for permanent care, a short respite stay, or day care, Mulberry House offers a warm welcome and peace of mind.

There is a choice of rooms to suit different needs and preferences – from spacious suites ideal for couples or close companions, to rooms with countryside views, and cosy hideaways that open onto private terraces or the tranquil garden.

Life at Mulberry House centres around connection, comfort, and community. Residents can relax or socialise in four beautifully designed communal areas:
• The Aviary – a garden-inspired lounge filled with natural light and a lively atmosphere.
• Brimley Vale Tea Room – a cosy spot to enjoy tea and homemade cake with family and friends.
• Dartmoor Library – a quiet, traditional space perfect for reading or reflection.
• The Dining Room – a vibrant area decorated with artwork by local artist Becky Bettesworth, opening onto a sunny courtyard.

The garden is a well-loved feature of the home, with a thriving polytunnel, raised beds, and a kitchen garden where residents help grow fresh produce. Many of the home-cooked meals include ingredients grown on site.

Animal lovers are especially welcome – friendly dogs often visit with members of the team, and arrangements can be discussed for residents wishing to bring a pet.

My dear friend has moved into Mulberry House after a hospital stay. All the staff from the administration to the manager are all so kind and caring. The home is always very clean and the room is very nice with a door to her own patio. Thank you for all your kindness.

Thank you all so much for looking after my special friend. It is always difficult moving into full-time care but all the staff have made sure that she feels at home. The home is beautiful as are the gardens. Always lots of choices for meals and snacks.

I simply cannot speak highly enough of Mulberry House, it is in all respects of exceptional quality, operating to very high standards. The house and grounds are like a good country house hotel, gracious yet homely, with delightful sitting rooms, a library and a dining room. The staff are welcoming,
smiley, friendly, respectful and efficient, happy to assist in any way to ensure the comfort and well-being of the residents. Food is excellent, varied and plentiful.

I cannot recommend Mulberry House enough. Mum went there 5 months ago and is there now permanently. The care she has received has been amazing. The staff are so caring and well organised. Nothing is too much trouble, Mum is looked after and her dignity is a priority. If Mum is not well, the carers are
on it straightaway with the doctor.
It is a great comfort to me and the family that she is cared for so well and is happy in her new home and takes part in many of the activities offered. It is also located in beautiful surroundings.

The care shown to my mother during her 2-week convalescence stay was exemplary. Mulberry House was respectful of her wishes throughout and offered her great support. She has visibly gained strength during her time there.
During her stay, her visitors have been impressed by the positive, caring and
welcoming approach of all the team there. Thank you.

Just wanted to leave a review for the amazing team at Mulberry. My elderly Dad was admitted in an emergency following a hip dislocation. As Dad has dementia too it was very confusing for him. All the staff were so kind and patient with him. I am not sure they had come across anyone who chewed their
food as many times as dear Dad did including water! Everyone was so respectful to him and our visits were made so much better as we were always greeted by a smiling face. We are now in a position to be able to bring Dad home but would like to say a big thank you to everyone who cared for him.

My mother-in-law has lived in Mulberry House for over a year now. It was a difficult decision for her to move to a care home but we really should not have worried as she is so wonderfully looked after. The staff are so friendly and attentive. There are so many lovely activities on offer plus they go
the extra mile and do things of interest to individual residents. The premises are beautifully decorated and furnished and always clean. I would not hesitate to recommend Mulberry House.

The care my mother is receiving is wonderful. The staff are all very caring, they know all the residents by name, what they like and do not like. There are things they know about my mother that I had no idea about, her likes and dislikes. When Mum is feeling low in spirit, there is always someone popping
in with a cheery smile and encouragement. We would like to thank the staff very much.

We have used this care home for my mother who suffered from dementia which became increasingly bad over a period of some 15 months or so.
The home is in excellent decorative order bright and airy in the public rooms with a pleasant dining room and activity room/tv area
The food is excellent, I must
say helping feed mum, she was eating better than me!
The staff I have met are all very professional and the communication has been good but at the same time, the atmosphere was engaging and in no way sombre.
During my mother's stay, the home had a poor inspection, at the time I felt this was a bit unfair, this was in the thick of the post-Covid staff shortages with too many agency staff. The following inspection was good. I would be very happy to recommend this facility as excellent.

My mother spent two years living at Mulberry House. In the last couple of months of her life there, when I was with her frequently, I found the staff to be both caring and professional. They treated my mother with respect and kindness. The standards of cleanliness and food was excellent. Her room pleased
her with splendid views. She was safe, secure and well looked after by the wonderful staff. Excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.877)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.877) out of 10 for Mulberry House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.877 for Mulberry House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (281 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 317 Ratings = 4.877
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mulberry House Residential Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
