Nestled in beautiful countryside surroundings, Mulberry House is a striking and much-loved home, recently renovated and thoughtfully designed throughout. Residential care is provided alongside support for individuals living with mild dementia. Whether the need is for permanent care, a short respite stay, or day care, Mulberry House offers a warm welcome and peace of mind.

There is a choice of rooms to suit different needs and preferences – from spacious suites ideal for couples or close companions, to rooms with countryside views, and cosy hideaways that open onto private terraces or the tranquil garden.

Life at Mulberry House centres around connection, comfort, and community. Residents can relax or socialise in four beautifully designed communal areas:
• The Aviary – a garden-inspired lounge filled with natural light and a lively atmosphere.
• Brimley Vale Tea Room – a cosy spot to enjoy tea and homemade cake with family and friends.
• Dartmoor Library – a quiet, traditional space perfect for reading or reflection.
• The Dining Room – a vibrant area decorated with artwork by local artist Becky Bettesworth, opening onto a sunny courtyard.

The garden is a well-loved feature of the home, with a thriving polytunnel, raised beds, and a kitchen garden where residents help grow fresh produce. Many of the home-cooked meals include ingredients grown on site.

Animal lovers are especially welcome – friendly dogs often visit with members of the team, and arrangements can be discussed for residents wishing to bring a pet.

The team couldn't have looked after my Grandmother any better. Our family couldn't have found a better place for her to live out her last couple of years. There is genuine care from the staff to residents.

Dad has been at Mulberry since august 2018. My mother died there and was looked after with great sensitivity during her last few weeks. After my mother's death, my father, aged 91, continued to live at Mulberry, where staff have consistently been cheerful and supportive. My father returned from hospital
to Mulberry in March, the week lockdown began. He requires palliative, end of life care. Mulberry House staff have, throughout these difficult past few weeks, been attentive, kind, responsive to our family needs at this extraordinary time, helpful with information/discussions about medical support and options given to Dad. The genuine affection in which they hold my father is palpable and a great comfort at this time when we cannot travel to see him.
Reply from Mulberry House, Manager at Mulberry House Residential HomeThank you Nicola for your kind and thoughtful words. It has been a wonderful joy for all of us to have had Mum and Dad here in our Mulberry family. Kindest wishes, Jane and the Team.

When the family discovered Mulberry House we had no idea what we had stumbled onto. It turned out to be somewhere that Mum could call home and where I know first hand that all residents are treated with loving care and respect for their needs as individuals no matter what their frailties might be -
physical or mental. I cannot praise highly enough each and every one of the lovely band of carers and other staff for the loving care given to my mother. She was very happy and confident in that care which helped greatly in giving her a wonderful final year. It is not possible to single any section out. From management, carers at all levels, activities, kitchen and housekeeping Mum made no distinction - she was just aware that everyone cared and she was safe, comfortable and content. Sadly our 105 year old Mum died in November. The love and care given to her and to all our family during this time was exceptional. We can only give our very grateful thanks for all the Mulberry House did for our mother while she lived there and during her passing.

My father, who is in his eighties, moved into Mulberry House, Bovey Tracey, to help care for his partner of 30 years who was unable to look after herself any longer. The care they both received has been exceptional. The kindness and understanding for them both was excellent considering their different
needs. My father lived there for just over 12 months and was always cared for and loved by all the staff. He really felt as though he was part of a family. It's not like an old peoples' home - it's more like a high-class hotel! The furnishings are lovely and always clean and there are activities throughout the day for the residents. Beautiful views too. Dad said the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. We, as a family, were always welcomed and able to pop in at any time. We did a lot of research and visits to various homes before finding Mulberry and on a scale of 1 - 10, the other places were 1 and Mulberry 10. Dad always had someone to talk to. Nowhere better than Mulberry House.

My 93-year-old fiercely independent mother moved into Mulberry House at the end of July. My sister and I went with her on her initial visit. We were blown away. The house was incredible. Light, bright, spotlessly clean and full of happy residents all busy doing various activities in lots of beautifully
decorated communal rooms. (The bedrooms would put a country house hotel to shame.) It was a joyous place to be. My mother has settled in well thanks to the kind, thoughtful, helpful amazing staff - I cannot speak too highly of each and every person who cares for and looks after her every need. They are all hero’s and deserve every fabulous thing that is said about them. My mother loves everything about it and I would urge everyone looking for somewhere to either live themselves or for one of their relatives to have a look around. You certainly won’t be disappointed.

Cannot extol the virtues of Mulberry House enough. All members of the staff showed kindness, care and attention. All facets of this residential home were superb. If all retirement homes nationwide were as good as this, our aged would be treated with the respect and dignity they deserved.

After visiting several care homes where dementia is specifically catered for. I opted for Mulberry house. As a registered nurse I have been impressed with the level of professionalism and obvious care evident in my mother's new home. Whilst providing a warm and inviting 'home', Mulberry House has proper
assessment and safety arrangements in place. I particularly liked the "getting to know you" booklet I completed for Mum as her dementia prevents her from renting her own story herself.
Reply from Sandra L Wright, Manager at Mulberry House Residential HomeThank you for taking the time to review Mulberry House. It is so important that we are able to measure ourselves and the service we provide. We are so proud to work here and work hard to make it feel like home.

Mum moved into Mulberry House back in August and we have been very pleased with the care she has received. As a previously independent person there were naturally some adjustments she had to make but all the staff understood this and have made the transition much easier. We have found the home to be
flexible, they listen to residents and relatives and they respond to needs swiftly. Mum likes the food and the range of activities on offer.

I found a willingness to make a residential home that was comfortable for the residents at a time when there were challenges for the residents as well as the staff. I believe that it is working well.

My father has been made to feel very welcome and he has settled really well, enjoying many different activities and socialising with his new friends. All the staff are very friendly and caring towards Dad, and family who visit, and they seem keen to take on board suggestions to help ensure life is as
good as it possibly can be.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.877)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.877) out of 10 for Mulberry House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.877 for Mulberry House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (281 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 317 Ratings = 4.877
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mulberry House Residential Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
