Nestled in beautiful countryside surroundings, Mulberry House is a striking and much-loved home, recently renovated and thoughtfully designed throughout. Residential care is provided alongside support for individuals living with mild dementia. Whether the need is for permanent care, a short respite stay, or day care, Mulberry House offers a warm welcome and peace of mind.

There is a choice of rooms to suit different needs and preferences – from spacious suites ideal for couples or close companions, to rooms with countryside views, and cosy hideaways that open onto private terraces or the tranquil garden.

Life at Mulberry House centres around connection, comfort, and community. Residents can relax or socialise in four beautifully designed communal areas:
• The Aviary – a garden-inspired lounge filled with natural light and a lively atmosphere.
• Brimley Vale Tea Room – a cosy spot to enjoy tea and homemade cake with family and friends.
• Dartmoor Library – a quiet, traditional space perfect for reading or reflection.
• The Dining Room – a vibrant area decorated with artwork by local artist Becky Bettesworth, opening onto a sunny courtyard.

The garden is a well-loved feature of the home, with a thriving polytunnel, raised beds, and a kitchen garden where residents help grow fresh produce. Many of the home-cooked meals include ingredients grown on site.

Animal lovers are especially welcome – friendly dogs often visit with members of the team, and arrangements can be discussed for residents wishing to bring a pet.

Cannot extol the virtues of Mulberry House enough. All members of the staff showed kindness, care and attention. All facets of this residential home were superb. If all retirement homes nationwide were as good as this, our aged would be treated with the respect and dignity they deserved.

After visiting several care homes where dementia is specifically catered for. I opted for Mulberry house. As a registered nurse I have been impressed with the level of professionalism and obvious care evident in my mother's new home. Whilst providing a warm and inviting 'home', Mulberry House has proper
assessment and safety arrangements in place. I particularly liked the "getting to know you" booklet I completed for Mum as her dementia prevents her from renting her own story herself.

Mum moved into Mulberry House back in August and we have been very pleased with the care she has received. As a previously independent person there were naturally some adjustments she had to make but all the staff understood this and have made the transition much easier. We have found the home to be
flexible, they listen to residents and relatives and they respond to needs swiftly. Mum likes the food and the range of activities on offer.

I found a willingness to make a residential home that was comfortable for the residents at a time when there were challenges for the residents as well as the staff. I believe that it is working well.

My father has been made to feel very welcome and he has settled really well, enjoying many different activities and socialising with his new friends. All the staff are very friendly and caring towards Dad, and family who visit, and they seem keen to take on board suggestions to help ensure life is as

Helen

Helen Hulme

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2022

Helen has worked in the Care sector for 30 years. Starting from Care Assistant and moving all the way to Manager. She qualified as a Registered Manager 22 years ago, which was always her chosen dream. Throughout these years, Helen gained experience in various settings. To name a few, she had roles such as a Commissioning Manager, Intermediate and Reablement Manager and always took pride in supporting local authority and the private sector. She has managed several homes, including Nursing, Mental Health, Palliative Care, Dementia and Residential.


After several years of hard work in London, Helen decided to move to Devon. She enjoys spending her time with her big family. Helen has three sons, four beautiful grandchildren and rescue dog Archie who has been welcomed at Mulberry House by residents and staff.
