Family members selected Horsell Lodge for my parents after looking at a number of other homes online. My niece visited the home in advance. My parents stayed for three weeks respite care. They found the environment very pleasant and the furnishings in their rooms were very good. The home also has pleasant
gardens with plenty of outside seating and new equipment. The staff were also very caring and kind towards my parents and got on well with them. The staff also made a real effort to keep in touch with me and I was impressed during those conversations. When I visited the home the Covid-19 procedures were carried out very effectively and my interactions with the staff were very good. I also found the environment to be impressive.
As might be expected, there were some issues. My parents were disappointed with the food and struggled with the timings of the meals. However, during their stay the staff adjusted to some of my parents wants and I understand a new cook has been appointed.

From the moment we first approached the team at Horsell Lodge they were helpful, happy and empathetic to my needs for our mother. They talked me through everything associated with the home and made me feel at ease. When both my mother and myself visited for the first time; during Covid, they supported
us and made us feel very welcome. From then on I knew this was the best place for my mother. Initially, we booked in for respite care to see how mum would adapt to the change and also if she was happy. Mother has been in homes for respite care before and hated them; she loves Horsell Lodge, so much so we have now signed a full-term contract as she loves it so much. The staff are amazing and so happy and friendly, cannot recommend the home enough.

The manager and care staff took time and trouble to ask about my wife's medical needs as a Parkinson's sufferer and her personal preferences. Care was taken to ensure that she tested negative for Covid 19 before admission and that she was kept safely isolated during her stay, as she had not at that
time been vaccinated.

Despite being quarantined, during her stay, she was kept informed of what was on offer by way of activities, facilities and also menu choices for meals. Questions I had about her routine during her stay and any issues such as sleeping patterns and toiling were answered fully and promptly.

Mum has only been a resident at Horsell lodge for three weeks but is so happy there. The staff have gone out of their way to make her feel settled and happy. She is a good food lover and rates the meals very highly! Her room is modern and luxurious but feels like home to her as she has been able to
personalise it with her own pictures on the walls. Thank you to the whole team.

We chose this Care Home because of the friendly happy attitude of the manager and salesperson. My husband was their first resident. The building is lovely and beautifully furnished. The gardens are still colourful in October. The chef accommodates my husband's preferences for food and even has a supply
of his favourite wine on hand. The staff are caring and friendly and my husband is very well cared for whilst allowing him independence.

Horsell Lodge is a lovely brand new facility and the staff are all very helpful and personable. They go out of their way to make the residents comfortable and also to make things easier for the family of residents. A member of staff even used her own skype account so the whole family could talk to my
mum on her birthday after we had problems using my mum's account. It has been difficult for everyone during the pandemic but as soon as they could, they found ways to allow visits in a safe way without putting their vulnerable residents at risk. They regularly hold events and entertainments and you can see from the pictures how much these are enjoyed. The Lodge has the look of a 5-star hotel but the feel of a family home so you can be confident that your loved one is being really well looked after and cared for in very pleasant surroundings. My mum is still pretty mobile and really enjoys the lovely gardens.

When my father died earlier this year, my mother and I decided that it would be nicer for her to move from Sussex (where she had always lived) to Surrey to be near all the family. She had to move during Covid, which meant a two-week quarantine and Covid tests. For a (nearly) 90-year old, this upheaval
could have been traumatic. But the entire staff of Horsell Lodge, from the manager to all the care workers, have been wonderful.... making her feel part of the family from day 1. My mother is really happy, settled and her sense of humour is back. I have been made incredibly welcome and the home makes it possible to visit often. This is a really caring home and I would have no hesitation in recommending this.

At last, piece of mind and no guilty conscience. My husband is a resident at Horsell Lodge and happy and contented to be there. This home is a jewel shining brightly in the quagmire of homes that do not shine! Having finally realised that I could no longer care for my husband at home, someone recommended
Horsell Lodge. As soon as I made contact with the home, I was impressed with their very caring attitude and professionalism. My husband was admitted, and we have not looked back since. I cannot fault anything at all about the home. It really is a 'home' with a bright, light modern interior reminiscent of a luxury hotel, or as my husband says - he is on a cruise! The calibre of staff is very high, unlike many other establishments, and they all go the 'extra mile' in their care of the residents. They find out as much as possible about each resident, in advance in order to make them feel welcome and special. We are both extremely happy with our choice and feel lucky to have found this home.

We were lucky enough to discover Horsell Lodge back in January of this year, shortly after it re-opened following building and refurbishment works. We were looking for a good care home for my elderly mother, who was still living on her own but was unable to cope. Horsell Lodge is delightful - beautifully
designed and furnished throughout, but it still retains the feeling of being comfortable in your own home. I can't praise all the staff and management teams enough. All the staff are so kind and thoughtful with all the residents and the management teams are very professional and caring. The home is spotlessly clean, serves the most amazing food and there are always plenty of activities to get involved with. And to top it all, the home has its own cinema room - a place you will find my mother visiting most afternoons. If you are looking for a care home that offers a superb, caring service then I highly recommend Horsell Lodge.

Mum has settled quickly and happily into this beautiful new care home. The staff are kind and friendly and they and the other residents have made mum feel very welcome. We, her family, are also well looked after when we visit and we very much appreciate the advice and help the staff have given us.
We feel so pleased and relieved to have found somewhere where mum is happy and we know she is getting first-class care.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.576)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.576) out of 10 for Horsell Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.576 for Horsell Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (55 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 269 Ratings = 4.576
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Horsell Lodge is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

As the Home Manager at Horsell Lodge, Julie believes residents should be able to live the life they want and be able to be themselves. She enjoys taking on the responsibilities that come with managing a home and encourages the inclusion of everyone in the home to create a friendly environment and a great place for all to live and work.

Julie has worked in a variety of roles within the care sector for over 40 years, including being a registered nurse in the NHS for 20 years in intensive care and then moving to a nursing role within a care home. From there, she progressed to Home Manager and has managed various-sized homes, giving her great experience. Having worked as a nurse in this setting previously, she also understands what the day-to-day role involves, so she can support the team.

Something that stood out to Julie when she joined Caring Homes was the owners’ care backgrounds. They understand what is involved at the home level, and there is a strong support network in place for the team to continually develop. She is passionate about seeing the care home team members grow and develop in their roles at the home and working together to offer the best care and environment possible.
