My mother has struggled to come to terms with being in a care home. Staff from management to kitchen staff, to cleaner, to hairdresser have all without exception, shown her such patience, kindness and support, for which our family are so very grateful. Thank you!

Highly delighted. My dad has been treated with real dignity and wonderful care. The staff are superb, everyone is so welcoming and understanding. Management and all the care team are fantastic, I would recommend this care home to anyone who requires care. It's spotlessly clean, the food is exceptional, it's so lovely to see my dad happy, he feels so safe and cared for. Can't thank them enough.

My husband has recently died in Liberty House. He was loved and cared for with respect and dignity. All staff were very kind, supportive and respectful to myself and our family throughout his residence with them. My husband very quickly made Liberty House his home and was very happy and settled there. When I visited him, I was always allowed to spend private moments in his room, which I treasure. I thank all staff from the bottom of my heart for their loving care given to him.

My uncle was cared for in this nursing home. He was very old but when he went in he was a very smart dignified man who used to wear shirts with ties or dikie bows and trousers every day of his life. He very quickly went downhill in his appearance. Within the first week, they lost his glasses, his spenco cushion (that had his name on!) and his very expensive watch! This watch was never found. His beautiful clothes were left in his wardrobe and he would sit in dirty clothes, with dirty hair and teeth. One Sunday we visited him and he was sat in a white t-shirt, which was definitely not his!! I was mortified for him. He quickly got a sore bottom. We constantly complained to the staff but nothing improved. One Sunday we could not get in, nobody answered the door or the phone. I would not recommend this home.

My mother has now been at Liberty House for nearly two years. She is always clean, well looked after and very happy here. Liberty has care staff who treat my mum with respect and dignity. It took my mum approximately five months to fully settle here and I put that down to the fact that she has great care and is looked at as a person in her own right. I am very happy with the care she receives.

My mother-in-law entered Liberty House in April 2021, suffering from several ailments, including dementia. She had previously lived in Kent in a care home that was not particularly considerate of her needs, and some of the staff there were not exactly empathetic. This made her very agitated all the while whilst in Kent.
Liberty House is completely the opposite as all the staff are so helpful and caring and understand the individual needs of all their residents.
Since being here, my mother-in-law has become more serene and happier despite the pain she suffers with deformed legs.
We would not wish her to be placed in any other care home since we are sure she would deteriorate.

This is a testament to the whole care team at Liberty House.

Mum is so happy here. She has made friends and I know she is well looked after. If I have any concerns they are dealt with straight away. The staff are brilliant with Mum and always keen to chat and update me when I visit, the activities are varied and keep Mum's mind active. She particularly likes it when animals visit or when she goes out. Thank you all so much.

Mum and Dad have lived at Liberty House from January 2022 (Mum) and June 2022 (Dad). The staff are lovely and very encouraging to my parents. They treat them with respect and empathy. Nothing is too much trouble. My parents especially like the entertainment. Dad likes to watch, and Mum likes to join in, in particular the singing. The member of staff who runs the entertainment is so lovely and perfect for the job! Mum says the food has improved lately with more variety, is there a new chef? All staff are wonderful, especially the members of staff in reception and others in particular.

All the staff are so lovely and caring.
Your mum and dad always join in with the sing-along, and it's so nice to see them happy.

The food is what I am monitoring, and between myself and the head chef, we go around all four dining rooms and ensure everybody is happy and being cared for the way they require. Once again, thank you!

Lovely environment, always clean and tidy.
Staff members are always friendly and welcoming.
There does however appear to be a high turnover of both staff and management.
The wellbeing lead does a fantastic job but doesn't have any help so a lot for one person to do, in my opinion.
I have had a few issues regarding the personal preferences of Mum's care that are important to Mum and us, but things have improved following discussions with the manager and care staff.

Overall, I am satisfied that my mum is happy and well cared for at Liberty House. Thank you.

Overall, Liberty House is a lovely building, and the rooms are spacious and have good ensuite facilities. The staff are helpful and friendly but not enough of them. The food is very processed, with no option for brown bread and limited to two slices of bread at a time. Not enough decent vegetables and rarely any fruit. We did take in our own but not very good for the amount you pay each week. No food first thing in the morning, had to wait for breakfast, which again varied between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Activities are limited, but again we realise this is due to a shortage of staff. Also, each day, the service for drinks was very dependent on which members of staff were on duty.

Reply from Amanda Hawkes, Home Manager at Liberty House
I am so sorry for you to encounter any negative issues at Liberty.
There is around the home fruit for anybody to take, and this is stocked out every day.

I am monitoring the meals with the head chef each day by visiting each dining room to see for myself that the food quality is of high...

We are very pleased at the way our mother has been able to settle and be happy at Liberty House.
On the upside,
- The facilities themselves are uplifting and that counts for a lot.
- I joined in one of the activities (exercise session) it was well attended and very good indeed.
- The team went to significant lengths to get residents involved in the above activity, including those with major mobility issues.
On the downside,
- Sometimes a pervasive smell of urine is in the air.
- My mum is unable to operate the TV, a simpler and more robust remote is needed.

- Reading matter (papers) for the residents should be readily available.

Since my mum moved into Liberty House last year, she has been really happy and settled there. Her room is extremely comfortable, with everything she needs and it is always spotlessly clean, whenever we pop in. She feels really well cared for by all the staff, who always do their best for her, even though they have been stretched lately. She has made friends and enjoys all the activities plus the facilities, such as the hairdressers and the cinema room in the home. The fact that she feels secure there also means that she is sleeping well and that, combined with the care she receives, means that she looks and feels much better than she did when living in her own house. We would highly recommend Liberty House.

If you are seeking Advanced/Nursing Dementia Care, look elsewhere. Note the Liberty House website states they offer early dementia care. Liberty House lacks the depth of knowledge, expertise and empathy to handle the complex needs of those with advanced dementia who may not highlight when they are uncomfortable or in pain. So my sister did not complain when her feet had blood blisters, her heels were sore and cracked and her toenails needed cutting (she spent her days pacing the corridors). Furthermore, simple things did not happen such as turning on her radio (she loved music), watering a pot plant or maintaining cut flowers (so the flowers died). Involvement in such activities would have enhanced my sister’s life, and so were opportunities lost. The lack of nursing dementia care means that the administering of end-of-life medication is delayed pending the arrival of a District Nurse or Doctor. Many of the staff were warm and genuinely caring but sometimes staff communication was insensitive and distressing.

If you or a relative are looking for a lovely looking care home with luxurious surrounds then this is the place for you, but if you have a relative that actually requires care and suffers with dementia please read this first. They profess to be a dementia specialist - I totally disagree. They gave my mum 28 days notice because of behaviour (fair enough) but the next day sent her off in an ambulance to the local hospital for them to deal with, giving us no opportunity to find a home for her. The hospital rang the home to say she needed to be taken back and they said there was no room, even though all her stuff was still in the room that we had previously paid for. When we collected mum's belongings we were given a box which was missing coats/shoes and clothes but received no help or sympathy from staff. Mum also managed to escape twice - Unacceptable, I could go on but you make your mind up.

I cannot thank the manager and the staff enough for looking after mum at very short notice for a two week respite care break just recently. She settled in straight away and was always very happy and smiley when we visited her. She was very sociable with the staff and residents and enjoyed participating in the excellent activities which were provided on a daily basis. We will have no hesitation whatsoever about sending mum to Liberty House for a little holiday again, should respite care be needed in the future.
