My Mum has been a resident now for two years having arrived initially for respite following a stroke. We were initially nervous about her going into care as it was not her preference however after some early teething issues we could not be happier with Castor Lodge. It's difficult not to be awed by
the luxurious atmosphere and glamorous decor but when you look beyond you will find delightful, caring and hardworking staff and a genuinely loving atmosphere. Mum enjoys the all activities and has made good friends and the staff look after her superbly well. It has been a relief to see some stability in the management team with Priya at the helm and I hope to see her stay in that post. Other members of staff who make a real difference are Satish, Cedric, Reshma, Chipo, Keisha, Asuma, Alison, Sue, Saskia and others who I know I have forgotten. Everyone knows who Mum is and that really matters. This was an important decision and thankfully, Mum is happy here.

Whenever we visit we are are so incredibly grateful to every member of staff for their kindness.

From day 1 back in September staff learned my father in laws name and always offer him the friendliest greeting . That also applies to any of us who visit. He initially came for respite but after just

a few weeks was asking if he could stay permanently. That speaks volumes for the wonderful staff and environment.

We are so relieved and grateful to have found this care home knowing that he is in excellent hands.

My wife is currently some eight months into residence at the home. She has during that time been content. A few minor issues involving a fall and banging her head which resulted in bruising. Her walking has deteriorated in the period ,and I have requested more walking (supported) which is being conducted
but needs to encouraged more. Some additional form of exercise (static cycling would be beneficial) This would help her core strength and would
Be appreciated by other residence I had in conversation. The activity team provide all sorts of facilities but very often I find when I visit her she is isolated and alone. She enjoys music ,classical and lighter forms but not too loud .The television in the main lounge is permanently on with low level appeal for most tastes . In her case activities like climbing walking canal journeys, capture her interest more. She spends a lot of time in a wheel chair where she is also fed. Inevitably food find it way onto the frame and seat and foot support ?
Reply from Priya Jassar, Home Manager at Castor Lodge Care HomeThank you for your feedback regarding your wife's care.

I can confirm that, as part of our new initiative for 2026, we are placing a greater focus on exercise within the home. A static cycle machine has been ordered and will be introduced as part of our daily activities to support mobility and strength. We hope this will have a positive impact on the wellbeing of our residents.

I will be in touch shortly to arrange a care review, during which we can discuss the other concerns you raised. Please note that our doors are always open, and I am available to be contacted at any time. If I am unavailable, Morgan or one of our deputies will be more than happy to speak with you.

Best wishes,
Priya

Mum celebrated her 90th birthday at Castor Lodge this week, the staff were wonderful. Quite a few friends and family came, and food and drink were provided, together with an amazing cake. Nothing was too much trouble, and it made it such a special day for Mum, and her family and friends.
Mum has
been at Castor since the summer, and we could not be happier with the care she is receiving. She is so happy, enjoys the activities, has made some lovely friends and is eating so well. She is really thriving.

My grandad came to Castor Lodge at first as respite having had a number of falls at home. The welcome at the home was brilliant and helped transition him to become a full time resident. It was the right time as grandad could no longer live safely in his own home. Grandad has settled in well through
caring staff and a great community feel that seen him make new friends around him and a created a strong sense of belonging in a cracking environment. I would fully recommend Castor Lodge it's professional welcoming kind and has strong community spirit.

Lovely home in a beautiful quiet setting, couldn't be better and at a critical time fraught with difficulties.
They delivered an excellent service which partly made up for the poor service paid for over several decades from the NHS.
The care home provided an essential base for continued care unavailable
locally and has been essential for my recovery.

When my father-in-law needed full-time care, we wanted to find somewhere that felt right a place where he'd be comfortable and well looked after. From the moment we visited Castor Lodge, we were really impressed. The home itself is lovely, clean and well-kept, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
What
really stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone has been so friendly and caring, making sure he's happy and looked after. A special shoutout to the manager she's been absolutely fantastic.

We visited many care homes to try to find the perfect place for our Mum including Caster Lodge. Along with its impressive appearance and beautiful rooms, more importantly we found staff interacting positively with residents. Many activities were being carried out and everyone looked so happy and content.
We spoke to several residents along with their family members and no one had a negative word to say about the care given. On this basis we decided that we had eventually found the home that Mum would hopefully be happy in. Mums mood has drastically improved since moving into her ''new home'' she has made many friends including members of staff. She will often say '"I want to stay here for ever'' I think her comments speak for themselves.

I recently underwent major surgery and as I am sole carer for my wife, I booked a weeks respite care for myself for the period after leaving hospital and two weeks covering that time and my stay in hospital for my wife.
This turned out to be an excellent decision. The care that I received was first
class and I was secure in the knowledge that my wife was similarly being looked after.
All of the staff were so friendly and helpful and I would recommend the home to anyone who is in need of care.

My father in law was in Castor Lodge and enjoyed his stay but it seems that personal belongings go missing and nobody seems bothered about it as when he passed they had lost his gold wedding ring and wallet but they are not bothered about investigating it as we were always told the items were in the
safe but apparently it was a lie.
So it seems that sticky fingers are about.

For a year, my friend lived in Castor Lodge Care Home and I visited him every 3 weeks or so when someone would drive me there as I am 92.
I think it would not be possible to find a better care home in the whole country. The building is spacious, very well kept and is very welcoming. Very nice meals
are provided each room cleaned daily, and lots of activities to join if residents choose. Totally first class.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.682)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.682) out of 10 for Castor Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.757 for Castor Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (168 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 210 Ratings = 4.757
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Castor Lodge Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
