Canterbury House is a purpose-built care home providing residential and residential dementia care for up to 66 older people. They are welcoming new residents for permanent care and shorter stays.

The facilities at the home include a hair and beauty salon, coffee shop area, quiet lounges and much more. Each bedroom suite has an en suite wet room to support privacy and dignity.

The team get to know residents' interests from the first instance and the Lifestyle Team support residents to live life as they wish. All colleagues are given regular training to ensure they deliver person-centred care. Meals are cooked freshly on site and residents are included in planning menus.

Canterbury House is operated by Anchor. Anchor is England's largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care to older people, with more than 60 years of experience.

From first contact with Canterbury House, Faversham I have been impressed with the professionalism of staff and the facilities. My mother has been met with respect and empathy and this has really helped her settle in. She has some specific needs and these have been met. We have met with team leaders,
both chefs and noting we have needed has been an issue. Mum is always the focus and the staff always address her rather than me so she is included and can be part of any situation considered. I have heard good things and this home & staff live up to the feedback. Very impressed nothing is too much trouble.

Upon visiting Mum after being out of the country for a few months, it was nice to see familiar faces greeting me like a family friend. The home was still a warm & friendly place. The only change was within the management team, which seemed to be running smoothly. When I took Mum out for the day and
we returned it was nice to hear her say "I'm glad to be home". Thank you to everyone involved.

The care home has been welcoming and friendly. All the staff in every area have been helpful and kind. The room has been pleasant and comfortable to stay in. The help with personal care has been very good when it has been needed. Extra help was needed, and given when there was a problem with my wound,
the staff were very kind and got medical assistance. The residents were also welcoming and friendly. The activities and pampering have been enjoyable. Hair and nails - very good. Lovely to go outside & see the planting and walk in the grounds. Mealtimes have been really good. Food & company were lovely.

Living in another county, I only get to visit my mother at different times of the year, but on each visit I found the staff accommodating, and impressed with their ability to remember all the residents names! The rooms are services daily, and cleaning is a constant. However sometimes on arrival it can
take several minutes to enter the building in nobody is on reception and someone has been sitting just inside the doors unaware of us trying to enter. Overall it is a warm caring establishment and a joke can be shared with the staff too!

My father has to be taken to hospital the day after he became a resident. I cannot fault the way the care home staff dealt with this. He was reassured all the way and I had frequent phone calls to keep me updated. He was back in his new home the next day and able to start the settling in process. Whilst
most residents seem to enjoy watching TC in the lounge it is nice that there is somewhere quiet that is available for him to sit and read his book, whilst still being in a communal area. I find this comforting to know that he is not isolating himself in his room.

Staff are kind and caring but often very stretched - more staff would be better on dementia floor. Management is good and responsive to any queries or concerns.
Laundry service has improved, however cleaning is not always ideal e.g food under sofas in lounge for several days, residents toilet needs
more frequent monitoring (hard to keep up!). Overall the experience is positive and my husband is happy and well looked after.

My partner has been in Canterbury House since November 2021 but recently his condition (parkinson's and dementia) has deteriorated. The staff have all coped with him very well, they are caring, compassionate and very helpful. They keep me informed of any changes in his condition, and of any OP visits.
The manager is very approachable and always happy to answer question and discuss his care needs. The whole staff are lovely to me when I visit and I am confident that my partner is in good hands is treated with respect. Very happy with everything at Canterbury House.

My 97 year old mother to Canterbury House six months ago, initially on respite after a hospital visit. Despite being incredibly anxious initially mother has settled well and is very proud of her room. She partakes of many of the activities arrange and particularly enjoys games and knit and natter group.
She enjoys the food and eats well. Mum recently told me that she finds all the care staff are good to her and treat her well. As a family, we are pleased with the way mum has settled in and is flourishing.

The staff as usual were exemplary. The home was clean and inviting. I received a very warm welcome plus the offer of a drink almost immediately.
All the residents looks happy and well care for and the atmosphere in the home was calm and inviting.

This is a good care home however there are issues with staff shortages affecting the wait for personal care and the lack of a full time chef. Mum doesn't particularly like the food however I do understand that most residents prefer traditional meals.
The carers are wonderful. However relatively well
residents, like my mother, are often pushed to be bottom of the list for showers and washes as staff are very busy.
Mum loves all the staff and spends most of her time with them in preference to the other residents.

I have to say that Canterbury House feels like my mum's home now. I never worry about her after I have left. I cannot comment on the food but I know there have been problems with chefs. I think the menu needs to be basic food that older people like even if it doesn't sound fancy - casserole, roasts,
nice homemade pies, and bread and butter pudding, apple crumble but made with good quality ingredients so that they have flavour and nutrition. Also I would like more bingo and quizzes, there is a lot of craft which my mum has never done. Also it would be nice if each say Wednesday a different person had a nice soak in the bath which is something they could look forward to. My mum is very particular and I think they are very patient with her. The lounge carpet could be cleaned more regularly perhaps overnight when they have left to go to bed. The air conditioning was rarely on during the summer and I had to buy a fan for my mum.

Residents also help shape our daily, weekly and monthly events and activities. Our team do however respect our residents' wishes if they do not wish to participate and aim to spend one to one time when possible. The carpets are scheduled to be cleaned in the next few days and we have a daily cleaning programme throughout Canterbury House. Electric fans were provided in each residents' room throughout the summer if these were requested. I'm always happy to discuss all aspects of Canterbury House at a mutually convenient time.

My mum has been in Canterbury House Care Home for 10 months now, and after her getting adjusted to being looked after, which was difficult as she'd been self sufficient before going in there, the care, support, facilities and the staff are excellent and go the extra mile for supporting mum. Can't recommend
this home enough.

My husband had 2 weeks respite care at Canterbury House. I felt very confident in the staff's ability to look after him and manage his care, the assessment was very thorough. The environment was very clean and food was good. There were plenty of activities, but it always felt like a calm environment
when I visited. Overall, I have been very happy that my husband has had a good experience for his first time in a residential care setting. Thank you!

Sadly I have lost both my parents now this year, my Father in May and my Mother more recently in November.
I must write to thank all the staff and management at the Canterbury House Care Home for all the love, affection, care and attention that they always gave to my Mum and Dad since they were residents
in October 2021 right up to the time they passed away.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff, they were always very professional and so helpful especially when my Mother was receiving her dementia end-of-life care towards the end.
I congratulate all the 'team' and really appreciate all that they did for my parents during their stay.

My mother is in Canterbury House for respite care with a view to permanent residency in due course.
So far, I am thrilled with the level of care, understanding and attention from the staff. Canterbury House is exceptionally clean with beautifully designed rooms and common areas. Mother has settled
in well, just after six days asking, a longer stay is possible. I am encouraging her to join in with activities that are varied and well thought out. Everything is delightful!

From the moment I arrived, which was 8 days ago, I seem to fit in instantly. From that moment, I felt most welcome. Since then, my care was faultess. Nothing seems to be any trouble at all to the staff. I am well informed of any activities that are going on. I felt like I was part of the family straightaway.
In fact, I am here for 2 weeks and enjoying it so much so far that I have already asked my daughter if I could stay another week, which has been agreed.

Lacey

Lacey Waddington

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2022

Lacey Joined Canterbury House as a Care manager in April 2022 and has recently become Home Manager.


Lacey has 14 years experience of working in the hospital & healthcare industry. Lacey started working in a care home at the age of 16 as a catering assistant and found her passion for care. During her time in care, she has completed level 5 in health and social and is currently completing a level 7 senior management programme.


Lacey’s passion is to provide the best service in a person-centred way for all residents and to support them to continue to lead a fulfilled and enriched life.


Lacey supports by leading and developing the home team, as well as giving and enabling opportunities for the residents to create meaningful moments.


In her spare time, Lacey enjoys spending time with her family. Lacey told us “I have three daughters and a husband who keep me very busy with various activities and many trips out.”

Declan

Declan King

Job Title: Administrator Joined: 2021

Declan joined Halcyon in May 2021 as Front of House Manager.


Declan has over 10 years’ experience working within the health sector in one of London's prestigious private hospitals and a large care home provider as a senior administrator. Providing support with the Homes teams, residents along with the daily operations, finance and HR.


During this period, he worked part-time to enable him to complete his university degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare. He also spent time in Africa working with a conservation team.


Declan always brings a cool calm and collected approach to his role has a great sense of humour and is usually chuckling away at something. He brings a uniqueness to the home. He has an encyclopedia mind of knowledge for animal facts which residents and staff adore.


When Declan is not working, he runs and socialises with friends, family and his dogs.
