It’s such a relief that we know he’s being taken care of in a five-star care home; it’s beautiful and has such lovely staff - 1st class.
I had never been to a care home until August this year, and I never imagined that it would be like a hotel when you are inside - such beautiful decor, and the food
is amazing.
The 2nd year anniversary last week was fantastic; such a lot of effort went into this.
I’m looking forward to the Christmas events.
My father-in-law is so happy and looks better than he was six months ago; he is 95 - it’s all to do with the care he is getting and the environment; it’s really amazing.

My dad is a resident at Cumberland Grange. He has been there for seven months and looks so much better than he did when he was living at home. I am so impressed with the staff - all so happy, helpful and loving. They had a party to celebrate two years of being open; it was such a great party - I was
very impressed. The food is good, and the building and garden are lovely. I think it's the best care home in Exeter.

Excellent care. All the staff are very good. Always patient. Many activities are provided and they always make them as varied as possible. The atmosphere is very friendly. The home is spacious and the garden provides ample space for walking and exercise. Individual bedrooms are also spacious. Cleanliness
is well maintained.

My 95 year old father had a wonderful 2-week respite care in Exeter. First impressions of Cumberland Grange was that it is a bright airy welcoming place. All the staff were friendly and professional. Dad’s room was clean with a lovely big window overlooking the garden. It all looked so fresh and clean.
The main worry as always when putting a loved relative in a home - is will they like it - well Dad loved it he couldn’t stop talking about how everything from his room, the food, the staff were first class he really perked up so much so that I was able to finally get a good night's sleep knowing that he was safe and cared for. Well done to the team.

I do enjoy living in Cumberland Grange Care Home, it has made a difference in my life because I am nearly 98. An age I never thought I would make. I no longer need to shop for food or cook or clean my room. I have arthritis in my hands and I can no longer sew but a member of staff looks after my clothes.
One thing that amuses me is that they regularly check to see if I am still alive. Living here is like one long holiday. I really love living at Cumberland Grange.

I was here for two weeks of respite (from 23rd January to 6th February 2023) I found this very restful and enjoyable, particularly after a nasty fall at home back in the summer and then at a stay in the local hospital (in Exeter) followed by a fairly long stay in Sidmouth hospital. I was progressing
fairly well, slowly and then a visit to one of my daughters near Cambridge, I developed Flu which put me in Bedford hospital for Christmas! Hence being here for respite.

A high-quality facility with excellent friendly staff, with an enclosed garden with several seating areas. There is a choice of menu providing nourishing meals with table service.
There is an extensive programme of activities which all residents are encouraged to engage in.
Visitors are always given

The Grange is such a lovely building, very impressive, beautiful decor and spacious, reminded me of a five-star hotel.
I had a large room with French doors leading out onto a patio, en-suite which was perfect.
My care was excellent, I was encouraged, advised and helped with my mobilisation, the staff
are professional, caring and kind and helped me so much along the way, can’t thank them all enough!
Imaginative food, excellent treats all on hand when desired, great chef and team!
Can thoroughly recommend this residential/care home, very happy to have stayed there for a month!

Cumberland Grange is the most beautiful home I have ever been in - it's like a 6-star hotel with my aunt's needs being catered for at every juncture. The food is excellent. The hygiene is excellent. The furniture, fixtures and fittings are fantastic, as is the atmosphere in the home and all of the staff
are polite, courteous and attentive to residents and visitors. I would certainly be looking to poach some of these staff if I had a competing carehome in the area.

Cumberland Grange is an excellent care home. The staff are friendly and offer the highest standard of care. Both of my parents are residents here. My mother has dementia, and I am confident in the care she receives; she is benefitting from the special care of Memory Lane upstairs. My dad, who is there
to be with my mother, had a great welcome a few weeks ago and is settling in well on the ground floor, receiving care when needed. The home is new and beautifully furnished. My dad keeps saying how excellent the place is. The food is superb with a resident chef. My brother and myself have already joined my parents for a meal in a private dining room, which was a lovely experience. There is a full and varied weekly activities program for all the residents. This home has a lovely happy community atmosphere. My dad is making new friends when previously he was isolated for much of his day. We feel confident that this is the right place for Mum and Dad to be enjoying this season of their lives.

My husband has Alzheimer’s, and my heart is breaking. When I reached the horrendous (there is no other word) decision that he needed help beyond my capabilities I started the search for a care home.
My search led me to Cumberland Grange. After talking to the general manager I suddenly had a feeling
of optimism and positivity (fingers crossed).
My husband has now been at Cumberland Grange for six weeks. He is settled, cared for and, importantly, respected.
I would best describe Cumberland Grange as ‘a well-oiled machine wrapped in a duvet’. The management, the carers, the housekeeper and all the staff are amazing.
I now sleep at night in the knowledge that my husband is settled, content and being cared for in a lovely way.

I enjoyed my 2-week respite stay and everyone was very friendly and kind. I liked the coffee area at reception where we could meet and chat and read the daily papers. Lovely choice of meals and chef was good. All very nicely done to a good standard.

Well what a really refreshing surprise. Bright and airy, really friendly caring staff, great facilities and activities, superb food i.e. great quality and perfect portions cooked by qualified chefs. (I am enjoying having lunch and a glass of wine with Mum in the private dining area).
Mum has settled
well in a lovely bright room with great facilities. What we wanted for Mum was somewhere safe, where she would have things to do, enjoy some company and be looked after. This is absolutely 5-star, not the cheapest but nowhere near the most expensive in the area either, value for money? - definitely. I work with another care provider elsewhere in the country and I have been really impressed with this home. Go and take a look, I think you will be impressed.

My mother has been in Cumberland Grange for 4 weeks of respite care. She was given a warm reception on arrival - various members of staff popped in to introduce themselves, including the maintenance officer, which was lovely - and, as it was 12:00, she was immediately offered lunch, which was very thoughtful.
The standard of the food is excellent, as are the facilities and decor. My father has been made welcome and assisted kindly on his daily visits, and has been able to eat with my mother. There has been an interesting range of activities on offer and the Home Services Advisor has been very warm, efficient and attentive in sending us little updates and photos of what our Mum has been doing. It has been easy to communicate with the Home.The care staff have been friendly and helpful and willing to facilitate video calls. We are grateful for all that has been done to make our mother’s stay a pleasant one - thank you to all at Cumberland Grange.

Mum was in Cumberland Grange Care Home for 6 weeks for respite care. The care she received during her stay was excellent. The staff were so attentive, very caring and nothing was too much trouble for them. She did very much enjoy her food in the home and there again could request what she liked.
We also enjoyed being able to have a meal with her on occasions. The accommodation was first class she had a lovely room overlooking beautiful gardens. My mum was very poorly when she first went into the care home but came out to return home feeling well, it was all down to the care she had received during her stay in Cumberland Grange. We as a family would definitely recommend Cumberland Grange Care Home.

We heard about Cumberland Grange through a local ad. As my mother at 92 had just had a brief stay in hospital she felt she was ready to be cared for. We arranged a visit and were delighted with the impressive layout of this new purpose-built home: the careful arrangement of communal rooms as well as
individual rooms. Everything was tastefully arranged and there were so many activities and amenities available.
From the start, the staff have been very attentive, kind and thoughtful. This is particularly impressive as the Home had only been open for a couple of weeks. Inevitably there have been a couple of hiccups but these have been easily resolved.
My mother was very pleased to have her room arranged exactly to suit her, including the hanging of some mini shelves for her ornaments. She feels very settled and comfortable after only a few weeks and is happier now than I have seen her in years.
I am reassured that she is getting the care and companionship that she needs.

Hello, my name is Beth and I am the General Manager here at Cumberland Grange.


I started my career in Care at the age of 17, which was just over 16 years ago now. My passion for Care started at a young age as my parents opened a Care Home when I was just 11 years old. Over the years I have worked in various different roles within the Care sector, gaining lots of valuable knowledge and experience along the way. With everything that I do, our residents always come first. Enriching the lives of those within my care is my priority, ensuring my residents are well cared for and happy and living a life which offers independence with support whenever needed.


My door is always open for my residents, their family members and my team. I am always happy to help with any questions that you may have, and if you would like to come and take a look around our wonderful home, please get in touch.

Hi, my name is Mica and I am the Home Services Advisor at Cumberland Grange. My role is to support clients and their loved ones who are looking to make the move into care. It can be a daunting process for many people, but I want to change that. I will do my absolute best to make the journey and process as stress-free and comfortable as possible.


I am incredibly passionate about enriching the lives of our residents and ensuring that they feel a part of our local community. So when I’m not in the home, I will be out and about in the community making some great connections with various charities and organisations.

Hello, my name is Gemma and I am the Home Administrator for Cumberland Grange.


I previously worked in another Barchester home for 3 years as an Admin Assistant, as well as previous experience of caring in the community. I really support and enforce everything that Barchester stands for, as I feel enrichment is so important in everyone’s lives.


Outside of Barchester, I have a love for baking and enjoy travelling to lots of different places.

Hello there, I’m Avril, one of the Resident Ambassadors here at Cumberland Grange. Welcome to our home!


I came to Cumberland Grange in August 2022 after relocating from another care home just outside of London. My sister-in-law who lives in Exeter told me about Cumberland Grange, and lo and behold, I arrived here and felt very lucky to call this my new home. At this time, it hadn’t been open long and I was welcomed with opened arms and settled very quickly.


This is no ordinary care home here at Cumberland, we have a beautiful home, the team is a happy team, and us residents are a great bunch.

Hi, I'm Chris, Head Chef here at Cumberland Grange.


I have a wealth of experience in the hospitality sector, having previously worked in some of Devon's most established restaurants and gastro pubs. My passion is using locally sourced food, and creating daily menus that reflect the great variety of seasonal produce available. Overseeing the kitchen I ensure that every meal my team prepares is always freshly home-cooked, served and presented with care.


I enjoy getting to know all of our new residents, ensuring that I understand their likes, dislikes and preferences and aiming to incorporate all of these into our menu selections. Along with my kitchen team, we strive to create a menu that delivers the home-from-home dining experience that everyone living with us genuinely enjoys.


Outside of work, my passion for cooking continues and I enjoy experimenting with new flavours and recipes for my smoker and BBQ and absolutely love all things baking.

Hi, I'm Chris, Chef at Cumberland Grange.


I’ve over 25 years of experience in the hospitality sector and have worked in a variety of establishments - from boats to bistros.


Working at Cumberland Grange is a real change in direction for me and that’s what I really enjoy about being here, as there is a lot of daily interaction with our residents and they make us all feel so greatly appreciated. I enjoy getting to know all of our residents and their individual dietary needs so that I can produce a personalised dining experience for each of them.


I have a degree in Fine Art, something which I still enjoy practising and outside of work I have a vibrant mixed media art practice.

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.


I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.


We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.


Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

Hello, I'm Lorna and I've been working in the care sector since 2009 and this is quite simply the best job I've ever had! My career began in the community care sector, supporting people living in their own homes across the mid and east Devon area, first as a carer and then progressing to the role of Care Manager, focusing on producing person-centred care plans for new service users.


My great passion however is to meet and support people and I just love the close personal connections that my role allows me to build with all of our residents. For me, everyone here is just like family and I really value these special relationships that I continue to build with everyone living here on a daily basis.

Hello, my name is Katherine. I work part-time here at Cumberland Grange, as a care assistant.


I started my career in care back in 2015 when I was a nursing auxiliary at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.


It was a very rewarding experience and I enjoyed it a lot.


I enjoyed it so much, I decided to start university to become a registered nurse. I joined Barchester in June 2023 during a break of my nursing studies. I really enjoy it here at Cumberland Grange. I often go out on the minibus with the activity ladies and go shopping with the residents to get their favourite snacks or go out to a community coffee morning.


I am still on that nursing degree journey. I shall be returning back in September 2024 to finally qualify which I'm proud of myself. I'll be on a bank contract so you may see me about when I'm on shift.


I really enjoy care work, and I really enjoy bringing a smile to residents faces. See you around.
