Visiting

  • Visitors are welcome to spend time with residents and are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their loved ones. Visiting hours are flexible, allowing friends and family to come at times that suit both the resident and the home’s routine. To ensure the comfort and wellbeing of all residents, visitors may be asked to sign in on arrival and follow any safety or hygiene guidance in place. Large groups and young children are welcome, though it may be requested that visits take place in designated areas to maintain a calm environment for everyone. Pets are often welcome by prior arrangement, as long as they are well-behaved and do not cause distress to residents. If a resident is unwell or receiving end-of-life care, visiting arrangements can be adapted to allow family and close friends more time and privacy. Visitors are encouraged to check with the home team in advance if there are any special requirements or if they wish to arrange a private space for their visit.

Parking

  • The care home provides on-site parking for visitors, with spaces located close to the main entrance for ease of access. Designated disabled bays are available for those who require them, ensuring safe and convenient access to the building. During busy periods, spaces may be limited, so visitors are encouraged to allow extra time when arriving. Where overflow parking is provided, clear signage is in place to direct vehicles. All vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk, and visitors are asked to use the spaces considerately to ensure availability for others.

Overall Experience
We were so lucky, that my partner was able to stay at Cottingham Manor when he could no longer care for himself.
We were very concerned because his daughter and I lived too far away to be with him daily.
All our worries were taken away, he came into a warm environment, like a family and we were part of it too.
What they did for my partner a for us was beyond expectations and from high quality.
As a result, he was able to live longer, more pleasantly and feeling more safe than expected.

We are very grateful to all the people who make Cottingham Manor such a safe, warm and fantastic place.

My dad initially went into Cottingham Manor for a few weeks whilst Mum had her new hip. Life took a turn for him when he had a medical incident in March 2023. This incident meant he really could not come home and he, and we, had to come to terms with the fact he was heading for long-term care in a care home environment. All of the staff were all superb in the care of my dad. He knew he couldn't come home, he was not happy about it, but he was happy to be at Cottingham Manor. He did not mix with other residents, taking all his meals in his room - they took the time to stop and chat with him knowing that sometimes theirs was the only face that he might spend any time with that day.

Dad sadly passed away in September, the day is etched in my memory, as the staff were truly saddened at his passing. They had embraced us as a family and they, by extension, almost became part of our family. A few of them also came to Dad's funeral, and this really meant so much to us.

Mum and I can't thank Cottingham Manor Care Home enough for the most amazing memorable day when Mum celebrated her 100th Birthday. The staff were amazing, I know I can't name them, but they know who they are. We will never forget what a wonderful day Mum had and how special she was made to feel. As a family, we have wonderful memories to treasure forever, thank you.

Following a large stroke and an extended hospital stay, Mum moved into Cottingham Manor at the end of September.
Mum tells me that everyone is lovely and has her best interests at heart and that everyone learns from each other so that the transition from independent living to requiring help is smooth and seamless.
Mum has told me on a number of occasions that she feels safe and well looked after, so much so that it feels like they’re all one big family there.

From a son's point of view, it’s been a pleasure to work with the Cottingham Manor staff, from the carers to management, really helpful and really friendly and if they don’t know an answer to a question there and then, I’ll know the answer very quickly. The staff, at all levels, are a pleasure to deal with, so thank you to you all, you have made this a home for Mum and very easy for me and my family to deal with the home, Mum and her needs.

My stepfather moved to Cottingham Manor after previous care home services were found to be grossly inadequate. He has a diagnosis of dementia. The changes that have been seen since he moved in, in his health, his appearance and his communication skills has been truly amazing. Cottingham Manor is a well organized residential care home that is meeting all his needs, physical and emotional. I am able to relax now knowing that he is safe and well cared for and that I will be made aware of any problems that arise. I feel involved in all decisions that are made as is my stepfather. The staff are caring and compassionate, despite his behaviour that can at times be challenging. He is taking part in activities and is enjoying being taken out on visits.

When I made the very difficult decision to put my husband, who has Alzheimer's, into full-time care I looked at numerous care homes. It was only when I visited Cottingham Manor, looked at the facilities and met the staff, I knew I had found the right place. The staff, management, seniors, carers, activities staff, cleaners, laundry, catering and reception are truly amazing.
The staff not only give outstanding care but the support they give me and my family is invaluable at what is a difficult time for everyone. The care and patience they have for the residents is incredible.
If ever there is something you are worried about, even the smallest of things you just tell someone and they will do their best to sort it out.

Thank you Cottingham Manor for caring for my husband and for the support you give me.

My father has dementia and has been at Cottingham Manor for three months. He arrived in a distressed state after several weeks in the hospital and the staff were consistently kind, thoughtful and patient with him as he has settled in and has been responsive as his needs change. They have built trust with him and he feels safe and cared for. He has always been very independent so it has been amazing to see him accept help. I have always felt welcome and The Haven is a comfortable place for me to spend time with my dad. His room is homely and attractive and kept beautifully clean by the housekeeping staff. I am very pleased.

This is a wonderful place. It was my husband's first experience with any care home/respite and he was understandably nervous and anxious. All the staff took the time to reassure and make him feel comfortable - including the manager, nurses, care, and domestic staff. As a nurse practitioner myself, I was very impressed with how friendly and caring everyone was. Would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

We moved my mother from another care home to Cottingham Manor in March which was a difficult decision to make but for various reasons, the right time to do it for Mum and the family.

From the first week, we were all made to feel welcome. The staff have been brilliant from the clinical lead, Cottingham Manor manager and team leader to the wonderful care teams and housekeeping staff. The staff are attentive to Mum's physical and mental health needs as well as socialising. They are kind and thoughtful. Over these three months, Mum has settled well, made new friends and people really look out for her. My sister and I visit and feel like it's a home from home. We are so glad that the big move was absolutely the right one.

Having spent a week in respite care at Cottingham Manor, Mum decided she would like to move there permanently. The staff are attentive to both her care needs and her social needs. All staff (including the kitchen staff) know Mum by name and the care staff all appear very familiar with her care plan, including her likes and dislikes etc. Pretty much every time I visit Mum says how lovely the staff are. She has gone from a practical recluse in her own bungalow (apart from my visits!) to someone who enjoys and benefits from social interaction with other residents and staff. As a result, not only her physical but also her mental health has undoubtedly improved.

The surroundings are gorgeous - worthy of a 5* hotel, with beautiful art and decorative pieces throughout the communal areas. Rooms are large and airy with plenty of storage space. Mum's room overlooks the front of the building, with seating areas, landscaped gardens and a fountain. Regrettably, there is an unkempt area beyond.

The food is generally good but I feel there should be more fresh fruit on the menu. I am aware that there is fruit on the side but I am not sure if many of the residents know it is there - my husband certainly does not. There seems to be reliance on packets for some of the puddings. There are occasions when the food is difficult to manage - for instance, jacket potatoes are very nice but difficult to cut up and there is not always a carer with the time to assist.

I do appreciate that there are occasions when staff are thin on the ground due to unexpected shortages; they do a great job and I know more carers have been engaged. Also, agency staff are brought in - some of whom are excellent and some not quite so. I am full of admiration for the love and patience shown by the majority of carers and am greatly aware of the difficulties some residents cause. It is unfortunate that one member of staff has been off work for so long - we miss her and look forward to another member of staff helping her.

What a wonderful place. The building and facilities are first class, the food excellent but most importantly the staff are amazing. Kind, thoughtful, attentive, and professional. I can't praise them all highly enough. Not only does my mum receive wonderful care but they also support our family at a difficult time. I can't thank them enough for everything they do and for letting our family relax knowing that my mum's care is of the highest quality.
