Cottingham Manor is situated near the centre of Cottingham and provides both residential and dementia care, for both permanent and respite stays.

The Home includes Yorkare Homes' usual facilities, including an in-house bar, a full beauty salon and hairdressing room, cinema, private dining room and terraces from each floor. The facilities are used on a daily basis by visiting friends and family, and in a varied activities programme. The Home is on a 1.6 acre site to allow large gardens, with a bowling green, allotments and private seating areas. Dementia care is provided in the specialist Haven unit, which is described as a 'Home within a Home'.

All the bedrooms are large, with some premium bedrooms of over 20sqm each, and all include a full ensuite wet room. The ground floor bedrooms include doors out to private patio areas. There are 2 premium suites which all have their own kitchenettes or lounge areas, and have been specially designed for couples/siblings but can be used individually also.

The care home is located on Harland Way, not far from Cottingham Parks Golf and Leisure Club and the village centre.

Admission Criteria

  • The care home welcomes applications for admission from individuals who require residential or dementia care. All admissions are based on an assessment of the individual’s care needs to ensure the home can provide appropriate support and a safe, comfortable environment. Before admission, a thorough assessment is carried out in consultation with the individual, their family, and relevant professionals. This includes reviewing health, personal, and social care needs, as well as preferences and lifestyle choices, to ensure a personalised care plan can be developed. Admissions are offered subject to the availability of suitable accommodation and the ability of the home to meet the assessed needs. Priority is given to ensuring that every resident’s safety, dignity, and wellbeing are maintained at all times. Trial visits or short stays may be offered where appropriate, to support a smooth transition into the home. The care home reserves the right to decline an admission if it is determined that the individual’s needs cannot be safely or appropriately met.

Visiting

  • Visitors are welcome to spend time with residents and are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their loved ones. Visiting hours are flexible, allowing friends and family to come at times that suit both the resident and the home’s routine.


    To ensure the comfort and wellbeing of all residents, visitors may be asked to sign in on arrival and follow any safety or hygiene guidance in place. Large groups and young children are welcome, though it may be requested that visits take place in designated areas to maintain a calm environment for everyone.


    Pets are often welcome by prior arrangement, as long as they are well-behaved and do not cause distress to residents.


    If a resident is unwell or receiving end-of-life care, visiting arrangements can be adapted to allow family and close friends more time and privacy.


    Visitors are encouraged to check with the home team in advance if there are any special requirements or if they wish to arrange a private space for their visit.

Expensive, but worth it. The home is purpose-built and has the feel of a hotel. The rooms have their own toilet facilities. The staff are friendly and always helpful.
My mother has been a resident there for a year now.
Room cleaners come around regularly. The resident medical staff ensure Mum gets
her pills as and when needed. There are hairdressing facilities, and laundry is done regularly.
Daily activities and occasional trips out are also organised.

When I made the very difficult decision to put my husband, who has Alzheimer's, into full-time care I looked at numerous care homes. It was only when I visited Cottingham Manor, looked at the facilities and met the staff, I knew I had found the right place. The staff, management, seniors, carers, activities
staff, cleaners, laundry, catering and reception are truly amazing.
The staff not only give outstanding care but the support they give me and my family is invaluable at what is a difficult time for everyone. The care and patience they have for the residents is incredible.
If ever there is something you are worried about, even the smallest of things you just tell someone and they will do their best to sort it out.
Thank you Cottingham Manor for caring for my husband and for the support you give me.

My father has dementia and has been at Cottingham Manor for three months. He arrived in a distressed state after several weeks in the hospital and the staff were consistently kind, thoughtful and patient with him as he has settled in and has been responsive as his needs change. They have built trust
with him and he feels safe and cared for. He has always been very independent so it has been amazing to see him accept help. I have always felt welcome and The Haven is a comfortable place for me to spend time with my dad. His room is homely and attractive and kept beautifully clean by the housekeeping staff. I am very pleased.

Dad has dementia and has been a resident for 3 months now. I have been so impressed with the dedication, care and knowledge of all of the staff, at every level. This is on top of the beautiful 5* surroundings. Cottingham Manor is a calm, beautiful, professional, and safe space.

This is a wonderful place. It was my husband's first experience with any care home/respite and he was understandably nervous and anxious. All the staff took the time to reassure and make him feel comfortable - including the manager, nurses, care, and domestic staff. As a nurse practitioner myself, I
was very impressed with how friendly and caring everyone was. Would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

We moved my mother from another care home to Cottingham Manor in March which was a difficult decision to make but for various reasons, the right time to do it for Mum and the family.
From the first week, we were all made to feel welcome. The staff have been brilliant from the clinical lead, Cottingham
Manor manager and team leader to the wonderful care teams and housekeeping staff. The staff are attentive to Mum's physical and mental health needs as well as socialising. They are kind and thoughtful. Over these three months, Mum has settled well, made new friends and people really look out for her. My sister and I visit and feel like it's a home from home. We are so glad that the big move was absolutely the right one.

Having spent a week in respite care at Cottingham Manor, Mum decided she would like to move there permanently. The staff are attentive to both her care needs and her social needs. All staff (including the kitchen staff) know Mum by name and the care staff all appear very familiar with her care plan,
including her likes and dislikes etc. Pretty much every time I visit Mum says how lovely the staff are. She has gone from a practical recluse in her own bungalow (apart from my visits!) to someone who enjoys and benefits from social interaction with other residents and staff. As a result, not only her physical but also her mental health has undoubtedly improved.
The surroundings are gorgeous - worthy of a 5* hotel, with beautiful art and decorative pieces throughout the communal areas. Rooms are large and airy with plenty of storage space. Mum's room overlooks the front of the building, with seating areas, landscaped gardens and a fountain. Regrettably, there is an unkempt area beyond.

The food is generally good but I feel there should be more fresh fruit on the menu. I am aware that there is fruit on the side but I am not sure if many of the residents know it is there - my husband certainly does not. There seems to be reliance on packets for some of the puddings. There are occasions
when the food is difficult to manage - for instance, jacket potatoes are very nice but difficult to cut up and there is not always a carer with the time to assist.
I do appreciate that there are occasions when staff are thin on the ground due to unexpected shortages; they do a great job and I know more carers have been engaged. Also, agency staff are brought in - some of whom are excellent and some not quite so. I am full of admiration for the love and patience shown by the majority of carers and am greatly aware of the difficulties some residents cause. It is unfortunate that one member of staff has been off work for so long - we miss her and look forward to another member of staff helping her.

What a wonderful place. The building and facilities are first class, the food excellent but most importantly the staff are amazing. Kind, thoughtful, attentive, and professional. I can't praise them all highly enough. Not only does my mum receive wonderful care but they also support our family at a
difficult time. I can't thank them enough for everything they do and for letting our family relax knowing that my mum's care is of the highest quality.
