Having joined Cinnamon Care Collection in December 2023, I am very proud to be part of the group and look forward to meeting you. I believe every individual is entitled to excellent care and support, my aim is to ensure that all residents at Heathland House receive this.
A little background about me; after studying for a BSc in Psychology, I completed an MSc in Conservation Biology. I then began my journey in the care sector as a Support Worker. I thoroughly enjoyed this and have now been a Care Manager for 10 years. I have managed specialist Autism services in the past, as well as elderly care homes.
I also hold a level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and enjoy the learning my role extends to me every day.
What I Do:
My name is Mary Stepin, I am the Deputy Manager at Heathland House. I started working at Heathland House in December 2022. I work very closely with the General Manager to ensure that Residents, their family members and our staff team are supported and that the service we provide is designed and delivered around the needs and wishes of the residents.
My Experience:
My career in Social Care started in 1984, as a Care Assistant in a residential home run by Dorset Council, transferring to the Borough of Poole with the implementation of the three Local Authorities- working in both Residential and Day service Provisions. I then moved to Germany in 1996 where I worked in the Army Medical Centre before returning home and joining a local Housing Association as the Registered Manager developing their Supported Living, Domiciliary Care and Extra Care services in the community.
About Me:
I am married with 5 children and 4 grandchildren. My passion is and always has been football, playing with my friends at the local rec and with the boys at school (girls weren’t allowed to play officially in those days). I managed several children’s teams when I lived in Germany, but now I watch the game from the terraces, I am a season ticket holder with AFC Bournemouth. I also enjoy spending time with my family and going to music concerts.
I am a Deputy Manager in the home. I have oversight on the care floors including admissions, discharges, monitoring care plans, medications and completing audits for care elements of the service. I supervise and support the care team to provide the highest standards of care for our residents.
My Experience
I have been working in care for 18 years, starting with supporting children in schools with autism. I supported adults with disabilities living in the community before moving into residential care. I have previously worked in a nursing home, dementia home and I have worked as Deputy Manager in a large mixed dementia and residential home for another care provider for 2 years.
About Me
I am an animal lover and have a large herd of guinea pigs, a small group of chickens and have 2 family dogs. I enjoy crafts including sewing, knitting, floristry, candle making and decoupage. I get great pleasure from spending time with my family and socialising with friends.
I would love to welcome you for a visit at Heathland House, as part of my role is to help people find the right care and support in their later years and to help you through what can be a hard task, especially if you have not been in the position of caring for a loved one before or you do not know what support or help is available.
Having supported two of my own family members to find the right care for them in previous years and been involved in older persons' housing for longer than I would like to mention, it would be a privilege to assist you in your search.
My past experience has also been within an estate agency as well as residential care, which gives me the insight to signpost you to advice and support.
