I'd been looking at a number of care homes for my mum who has been living with Alzheimer's. Some of the places I visited were good, others broke my heart. After one particularly depressing viewing, I cycled over to Chartwell House to see if I might make an appointment with them. The moment the doors
swished open, I knew this was the place for us.
I found myself in a beautiful lobby that was on a par with a 5-star boutique hotel; but it wasn't just the décor and facilities, it was the 'feeling' that the place had. The receptionist, Helen, welcomed me in right away and arranged for the admissions manager, Jude, to meet with me there and then. I was given a tour, and more importantly, I was given time and understanding. I could see clearly that the ethos was all about enabling the residents to continue living, rather than just sitting around to wait out the final chapter.
The facilities, dementia care and activity programme are exactly what Mum needs. We are so grateful. Thank you.

As mum's health deteriorated after the death of her husband, we looked around care home options in our area. It had to be somewhere mum would be happy. Looking round Chartwell we were impressed at once with the fresh modern decor and the friendliness of the staff. The fact they have a nautical theme
running throughout seemed to be a sign as mum's husband was in the Royal Navy. Although it was very difficult leaving her home, she now calls Chartwell 'home'. We are happy knowing that the amazing staff not only give her the best care, but also have interesting and fun activities if she wants to participate, but if she doesn't she has a bright and spacious room overlooking the gardens if she wants to stay there. As mum says, nothing is too much trouble. We cannot fault the care and attention she receives. Book a tour, see for yourself!

My mum has been a resident at Chartwell House for over 18 months. We know she is in safe hands and well looked after. Chartwell House was the best choice for mum when we needed to find a home for her, and she has been happy there since day 1, and most importantly, we know that she is safe and happy.
The staff are lovely, the facilities are clean, and there are a wide variety of activities for mum to join in /watch as she decides. It is easy to visit mum at times that work for us, and the bistro means mum feels like she feels she is treating us to coffee like she did in her previous life. I am very pleased with mum's care at Chartwell House and would recommend Chartwell House to anyone looking for the next forever home for their loved one
Reply from Jude Coveney, Admissions Manager at Chartwell HouseWe were so touched reading this heartfelt review from a family member of a resident at Chartwell House .Knowing that a loved one feels secure, cared for, and still able to enjoy the little things like a coffee catch-up in our bistro means the world to us. It's those everyday moments of connection that make life feel familiar, meaningful, and truly special. To hear "the best choice for mum" and "she has been happy there since day one" is exactly why we do what we do . Thank you for trusting us and for sharing such kind words about our wonderful team, our homely environment, and our vibrant activities that residents can join in with, or simply enjoy watching at their own pace

My dad arrived at the end of April, and we honestly cannot thank the staff enough. Myself and my daughter were caring for my dad at home, which became unmanageable, since my dad has been at Chartwell, he is so happy again as all of his needs are met and more. My aunt has been in Chartwell House for coming up to two years. I have had experience of many care homes for elders in my family. The care and resident attention at Chartwell is the best that I have seen. A key factor is the constant fun that Chartwell brings to the residents through the daily activities

Mum has been at Chartwell House for 7 weeks now and we can't speak highly enough of the care she has received.
The service right through from the initial assessment process and admittance to now has been first class.
It was clear that all the staff are fully briefed about new arrivals as from day
1. All the staff including maintenance and kitchen staff knew mum by name.
The care mum has received has been efficient, caring and compassionate.
The daily activities are well planned and tailored to the residents needs. All residents are encouraged to participate as much as they want to.
The food menu is varied and excellent quality, all staff are clearly well motivated and take pride in their work.
The home is clean and well maintained.
We are looking forward to mum having many happy years at Chartwell House.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.956)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.956) out of 10 for Chartwell House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.956 for Chartwell House is calculated as follows: ( (391 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 406 Ratings = 4.956
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chartwell House is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked within office environments for the last seven years since finishing my education, with my knowledge predominately within the care industry.

In my spare time, I enjoy visiting the cinema, participating in gym activities and spending time with my family and friends.

I feel privileged to be doing this role and I am looking forward to welcoming in the residents and getting to know them and their families.

The most rewarding part of caring for me is making others smile and making a difference. I am excited to utilise my knowledge here at Chartwell House and to be a part of the growing team.
