Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home

Arrived at Hazel Lodge just a few days before Xmas until the New Year 2025. The first thing to say is how welcome I was made, next, we were shown to my room, which was clean and tidy as it was when we (my sister and I visited). Had dinner sitting with just one other person. In the afternoon after sorting out my clothes, I spent sitting in the coffee lounge talking to the other residents. Upset a resident for the stupidest of reasons at supper time, and even so I enjoyed the meal. What I enjoyed about my stay was that there was something going on every single day, three times per day. Wonderful, because where I stayed last year there was Nothing. You only knew it was Xmas when your dinner arrived. All through my stay, I had good food. Good company. The staff, both carers and domestic were caring and friendly also willing to do anything (within reason) for me. The whole care home was clean, warm, and very friendly. And yes I would go back.

After a sudden illness over Christmas I arranged for my dad to have a week long's respite at Hazel Lodge as he recovered. The hospital assessment was promptly arranged and the carer who came to see dad was reassuring and quashed any worries he had about going to a care home. The bedrooms and shared spaces are very well done. The food is fresh and there is a good variety of dishes (catering for low fat as well), whilst the dining area provides a nice space for social connection for the residents. The staff are both caring and professional, as they managed all his medication and physical obs when he first arrived and stayed proactive about checking in with him to make sure he had what he needed as the week progressed.

Comfortable accommodation. Staff are friendly and caring. Food fair. Activities are a bit childish (sticking coloured paper into books).

Each time I ring and ask to speak to who is caring for my godmother during that week I am always given a welcome synopsis of how she is and how she is settling into her new way of life.

It has been a great relief to see my stepmother so well looked after and cared for. Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home provides a lovely warm, welcoming and comfortable environment and the staff could not be more helpful. We feel completely reassured that she is being well looked after and kept safe and comfortable.

Our mum has been treated with respect, care and dignity. The family (we) have been treated with kindness and care and Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home staff have helped us enormously to navigate the world of elderly care and dementia, we had been very isolated in trying to work things out. They not only cared for our mum, they cared about us and things are ongoing. As things unfold, we feel they are supporting us on this journey.

Atmosphere in the home is loving and friendly and reassuring when one is a hesitant newcomer. I feel one can both take and give and feel part of the "whole".

My mother came to Barchester Hazel Lodge Care Home a very lonely, unhappy lady. She is a different person now. All the care, attention and making her realise life is for living. Thank you so much to all the staff for their kindness.

Following a fall my wife spent two weeks of respite care in Hazel Lodge. Her experience far exceeded our expectations. Hazel Lodge is bright, modern and spotlessly clean. My wife's individual en suite room was spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. However, the outstanding feature was the support from individual members of staff: efficient, courteous, genuinely friendly and always ready to help. Indeed the respite experience was characterised by comfort, security and friendliness. My thanks to all at Hazel Lodge for helping us through a difficult time.

Spent several weeks looking for a care home suited to my mother’s needs. (Alzheimer’s). Hazel Lodge is purpose-built with lovely rooms and facilities, which are decorated and presented to a high standard. The interior decor is bright and modern - presented like a high-class Hotel environment. There is one whole floor designated for residents with dementia. This is presented in the same way as the other floors and residents can mix with people on other floors as they choose. My mother has only been at Hazel Lodge for 6 weeks, but we are very pleased with the care she has received so far. All staff are friendly, patient and helpful and seem very aware of residents' needs. Numerous activities are available for residents daily, and my mother has received the interaction she needs to make her life as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We are looking forward to better weather when hopefully she will enjoy the garden.

The facilities are excellent.

My mother needed respite care after a period of illness and I’m pleased to say she’s fully recovered and back in rude health. Her recovery is very much down to the care and attention she received from the marvelous staff at Hazel Lodge, their good humor and patience are infectious and very much set the tone for this home. My mum received some truly excellent care, at 90 she’s already earmarked a return if she needs support in the future. Really faultless experience.

All together the experience was made to feel like being cared for in a great place.

I went to Hazel Lodge for a week's respite care, after having a rather traumatic year. I felt very well looked after and enjoyed meals with other residents and the entertainment and exercises laid on. My room was comfortable, though the lighting was not good for reading. I also feel that the wet room shower is a bit unnerving without a seat. I did find that waste bins were not emptied during the week. Overall, a very pleasant time.

Hazel Lodge provided excellent care for my father. The home was beautifully furnished and spotless. All members of staff were so caring, friendly and respectful of my father and his needs. I would certainly recommend Hazel Lodge. My father is already booked in for more respite in the new year. Thank you to all the staff for making my father's stay a happy one.

Hazel Lodge is modern and well-furnished but still manages to create a comfortable friendly atmosphere and I feel that my father couldn’t be in better hands.

Having been my mother’s carer for nearly two years, it was a huge change for us both to adapt. For my mum to leave her home and belongings, knowing she couldn’t go back and for me to let go of a lot of responsibilities and leave the staff at the care home to look after her. Over the summer, we have both adapted well to our new lives, thanks to all the staff in the care home! I can highly recommend this home to anyone considering doing this. I have my life back, and I can see Mum anytime I like and join in with activities with her and enjoy meals together! I am so pleased I made such a difficult decision. Thanks to everyone for their care.

Just enjoyed the first year celebration of this amazing care home. My mother has been here for 6 months and I can honestly say it is wonderful. The facilities are great - lovely room, great communal rooms with lots going on and she reports ‘great food’ but what really makes this place fantastic are the staff. The care, understanding and companionship she has goes way beyond anything I could have hoped for. Thank you everyone.

Hazel Lodge is a first-class care home and I could not fault the wonderful staff or luxurious facilities. From the moment I contacted the team to arrange respite care for my mum following her hip replacement until she left a couple of months later, everyone acted with care, courtesy and utmost professionalism. Nothing was too much trouble. I felt reassured knowing that she was in safe, caring hands. The spacious facilities are elegant, very clean, yet also warm and cosy - a perfect home from home. The wide range of social activities also helped Mum gain new friends and newfound confidence. She didn't want to leave! If I had to be picky, we felt that the quality of the food was a bit hit-and-miss. But many, many thanks to the whole team at Hazel Lodge. We were very lucky to have found you.
