Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home in Eastbourne, East Sussex provides residential care, respite care and dementia care.

I have been a patient at Sycamore Grove Home on two ocasions, firstly for 2 weeks and recently for 1 week. On both occasions I've found the culture to be compassonate and caring in the home. There was a daily programe each day for the resident to attend and I found very helpful. Also there was a range
for residents to attend eg a hair salon, a room for films, and a well kept garden for or exercise.
The food was very good in the dining room and staff waiting on us, they published a menu with 3 courses at lunch and evening meals. The medical staff were very good as I needed the catheter to be put on each night. The manager & the care home was very efficient and welcoming.
I would certainly return there if I needed too.

My mum has been at Sycamore Grove for a year now. As a family we are extremely happy with her care.
Her confidence has improved and is socialising well with all the other residents.
Its so comforting to know that she is being well cared for and is happy in her home.
The staff are all amazing and

My elderly mother was very well cared for by the superb and friendly staff during the nearly 4 week period she stayed at Sycamore Grove. Her and our only concern in the heat was the fact that the windows do not properly open and the lack of air con.

All care staff - many thanks for all your care towards me. All cheerful and helpful.
When I request help - it was instant. No faults or complaints.
Thank you night staff for cups of tea offered, and the quiet, peaceful nights, which, I believe is critical to good service. All of

I bring Hudson (therapy dog) in every week to see the residents. I am and Hudson are always greeted with a smile form staff and residents. I enjoy my visits and residents enjoy meeting Hudson.

I am a regular visitor to a friend and take her out to regular events as well as occassional special outings and medical appointments. Staff are always very welcoming and I am always invited to join in events + activities. The only problem is if we return after office hours there is a long wait to be
let in or for me to be let out after visiting.

My mum is a resident at Sycamore Grove and at first we were apprehensive but I can honestly say this was quickly put to rest. The staff are wonderful, very caring + treat the residents with great respect & dignity. The home is clean & the food is great. Family & friends are always made to feel very
welcome. I would recommend this home to anyone.
The management team are also wonderful & need to be congratulated on a brilliant home & its staff.

Every time I arrive I am given a cheerful welcome which comes through to all the members of staff I meet. The care and concern given to residents is excellent and the friend I visit has definitely benefitted from this cheerful + sociable environment. The management is efficient and smart, and keen to
build a relationship with residents and visitors. There always seems to be something going on to involve and entertain residents, with excellent organised activities and events. The rooms are comfortable and attractive and my friend has definitely improved since he came in and is well nourished too thanks to the cook!

My father has been a resident for just over one year. During this time, he has regained his zest for life. He has gained 4 stone in weight, from 10 to 14 stone, due to the wonderful food and care he has received. As a registered nurse myself, I feel that the care and the attitude of the staff are amazing.
I would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a safe and loving environment.

Mum stayed for respite care following a hip replacement in March. Whilst looking for somewhere suitable, my main criteria was somewhere she didn't want to leave. Once I had visited Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home, there was no debate at all. Sycamore Grove ticked all my boxes and more (I had a fair
few!) Her room and facilities were wonderful. She was looked after incredibly well by all the staff. She loved engaging in conversation with them all, as did they, and having a few laughs together. And playing April Fool's tricks! The food was lovely. Well varied, with good choices and beautifully presented. The whole team engage with the residents. It is more a five-star hotel than a care home. The daily activities are amazing. This is so important for the well-being of the residents. Mum and I often chat about her time spent there. She has already booked (in her mind) her next stay for when she has the other hip done. Who knew that requiring respite could be so much fun? Thank you to all the staff involved in Mum's stay with you.

Excellent, five-star care at Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home. My stay for respite care began 17th-24th May 2024. I tried, in my mind, to find fault but I could not find one issue to contend with. A welcoming and helpful receptionist, then the bistro, a communal space, with coffee and tea facilities,
fresh fruit and also, an activities centre. All the care staff are attentive and truly care for elderly residents. A big tick for management - the peace and quiet throughout the night. No slamming of fire doors and flashing lights every two hours, distressing the residents. A carer sits throughout the night, listens at doors and offers a cup of tea if residents are awake. Well done everybody. So I do recommend Sycamore Grove to others.
Not forgotten - thank you chef and your helpful staff.

This is a marvellous place. It is beautifully furnished and equipped and the staff are all so very warm, friendly and helpful. One of the best things about it is the range of activities you provide for the residents - my mum loved bread making, the magician, tea parties, the card evenings, Christmas
Fayre, theatre and shopping trips, arts and crafts to name just a few.
We love the fabulous bistro/ coffee lounge where residents, relatives and guests can meet, enjoy delicious homemade cakes and fresh coffee together. It’s more like a first-class hotel than a care home, except you also provide a very well-trained and willing staff who are always on hand to support and care for everyone’s every need. I can’t recommend you highly enough. For us, your place is simply the best in Eastbourne.

It's always a pleasure to visit my mum. The staff/carers are friendly and knowledgeable and any health issues have been dealt with promptly and efficiently. The general atmosphere is cheerful and there are plenty of activities to keep the residents amused. Having had lunch there, I can recommend the
quality of the food - a very good chef! My only criticism is that the bistro area, although like everywhere is beautifully furnished, there are not enough tables and chairs - the sofas could go.

I love living in Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home. The staff are so friendly and helpful in every way. The place is just like living in a five-star hotel, I could not have wished for a better place to spend my remaining years than here It would be a job to find fault in any way and my wife and I
love living here. The admin staff go out of their way to help overcome any problems. The meals are adequate and if you want more you only have to ask. The place is a perfect place to retire to.

Emma-Louise Rich-Spice

Hi. My name is Emma Rich-Spice, and I am the General Manager at Sycamore Grove.


I trained in mental health and care management and forensics as a degree, and have been managing adult nursing and complex care home services for over 20 years. I bring a deep and caring knowledge of how to ensure the care given to you and your loved ones is at a standard you would expect and more so. My door is always open for a coffee and a chat for all. Care is a huge passion of mine, one which has led me to the House of Lords to positively champion adult social care and those who live and work within it.


For me, kind, caring, personalised and holistic care should be at the heart of everything my team and I will provide for you, and we will take the time to get you know you and deliver the best service we can to your wishes to live as independently as possible.


To be able to make a difference and share a part of your journey with you is something we find humbling and rewarding, and we cannot wait to meet you when you come to visit us or come into our care.

I have worked in the care industry for over 30 years, including managing a domiciliary home care business in the past. I love all aspects of care, especially caring for the elderly I started working for Barchester in 2021 and I love working for Barchester as it is an incredibly caring and empathetic business.


Due to my passion for care, I will use my skills, knowledge and experience and I will manage and lead my team in delivering outstanding care to our residents.


Daily I take home with me all the smiles, the hugs, the touches of the hands, the happiness in their eyes, the genuine joy of residents and knowledge I did everything I could to make their lives better. It is the greatest reward.


I do practice an Open door policy for our residents, relatives and staff as they are at the heart of what I do.

Eva Davies

I have worked 18 years in retail inclusive of personnel and cash management. I have been employed in the care industry for 6 years and enjoy the team I work with. I enjoy being able to spend time with the residents and families when possible and getting to know the staff team too. My door is always open and I am here to do my best to support everyone, so please come and see me, and help me put names to faces!


I am excited to be at Sycamore Grove, and if I haven’t met you already, I look forward to welcoming you to our lovely home soon.

Hi , I'm Laura, I am the care community lead at Sycamore Grove, I've worked in care for 11 years working in a variety of residential and nursing homes, I have worked my way up from being a carer.


I've been with Barchester for three and a half years and really enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the team are incredible. I am passionate about ensuring all our residents receive the highest quality care and life enrichment.


My role as Care Community Lead enables me to support residents and their families whilst also supporting the team to ensure the home is a great environment for both residents and staff

Hi , my name is Ann, I am a Community Care Lead at Sycamore Grove Care home and I was appointed in January this year. I am an honest, enthusiastic, self-motivated, reliable, responsible and hard working. I am a mature team player with plenty of years experience in care making me very adaptable to all challenging situations.


I enjoy meeting all kinds of various residents and I love hearing their backgrounds and what they've experienced throughout their lives. Whether you stay with us in a respite capacity or for our longer term, I know our team will be able to deliver you or your loved one amazing care under our teams direction. Dirk Ehrlicher

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2023

My career in hospitality and catering started in 1990. I trained in Jülich, Germany and started my career In Zurich and worked in many 4* and 5* Hotels in my career including Claridge’s (London), and Hotel Alpina (Klosters, Switzerland) to name a few, I then went on to work as a head chef in Switzerland. I am now very settled and happy in the UK, spending the last 12 years working for the 5* Landmark hotel in Marylebone, fulfilling many roles starting as Sous Chef and working my way up to an Executive Sous chef role.


I started working as a chef in the care sector in 2023. I chose to join Barchester as their standards and expectations are so high. I believe a good chef is an artist and should be able to create delicious menus from the local, seasonal produce on offer.


We have a strong passionate team here at Sycamore Grove and we are looking forward to welcoming our residents to their new homes.

Anton Stefea

Job Title: Head of Maintenance Joined: 2023

I joined Sycamore Grove as Maintenance Manager in January 2023. Maintenance is paramount when it comes to our residents, relatives and colleagues, and my role is to keep the home environment up to the highest standards possible, ultimately creating a safe and warm place for our residents to live and my colleagues to work.


I also manage and deal with contractors, keeping records up-to-date for our audits. As part of my role, I am also responsible for maintaining the home's extensive grounds. Prior to joining the team at Sycamore Grove, I worked as a facilities manager for Tesco.


I look forward to meeting you all and helping with any maintenance needs in the home.

Job Title: Activities Lead and Speak Up Champion Joined: 2023

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.


The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their well-being currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.


I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new homes and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

My name is Nicky, and I am proud to be the head housekeeper of Sycamore Grove. I have worked in retail and hospitality for over 30 years. I love meeting new people, listening to their stories and cleaning.


Our new home is stunning, beautiful, homely and full of a team that cares, is dedicated, is full of passion and years of experience.

I originally worked for over 10 years as a carer. Now that I work in reception I have the privilege of meet and greet, plus a variety of tasks to complete daily. You will usually see me sitting at our reception desk ready to welcome you in. I have many years of experience in office work, customer service, and various other businesses.


I have been working as a Receptionist in care for the past year and a half and thoroughly enjoy it and I am looking forward to my new role of Administration Assistant. I think I have a good sense of humour and a positive attitude to life and like to share that. I am looking forward to my journey with Barchester at Sycamore Grove, which is indeed a very beautiful place to work.

Hello, My name is Andrea, I am the weekend Receptionist here at Sycamore Grove.


I have over 35 years of Customer Service experience, working for places such as Sussex Police, The NHS and most recently in a Care Home.


I really enjoy meeting people and am warm, welcoming and always available to help out with anything you may need whilst visiting the home.


Outside of work I look after my grandchildren, go horse riding and volunteer at the local animal rescue shelter.


I am really looking forward to my career with Barchester, working in such a beautiful home and getting to know our residents, their loved ones and my team.

Hello, My name is Maria, I am a carer and the dementia champion at Sycamore Grove. I have worked in care for only 3 years and, I really wished I had done it sooner! I have experience in nursing care, end of life care, community care and residential care. I have been with Sycamore Grove for 8 months and absolutely adore the residents and work with an amazing, dedicated team. Life at Sycamore Grove is one big family, sharing stories, fun, laughter and even a few tears but I always go home with a big smile on my face because everyday is rewarding and I even get a few hugs from our lovely residents throughout the day.

Job Title: Therapy dog Joined: 2023

Hudson is our therapy friend who joins us in the home every couple of weeks for a visit. Hudson is a cuddly, friendly dog who enjoys his visits and loves his long runs through our garden. He is always welcoming to anyone who wishes to stroke him, but if you are a little nervous, he will sense it and keep his distance.


Hudson is a much-loved member of our community!
