Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home in Eastbourne, East Sussex provides residential care, respite care and dementia care.

This must be the best care home in the UK. Nothing was too much trouble for all members of staff and everyone was treated with great kindness and dignity. No task was ever too much for the most caring staff, regardless of their position, be they managers, carers or domestic staff. I was extremely happy
there and would certainly return if I need further respite care at Sycamore Grove Care Home and would recommend it to anyone who needs to be cared for temporarily or full-time. An excellently run facility, impossible to find any faults.

I cannot praise Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home highly enough. My mother stayed for 10 days respite care while I was on holiday abroad. The care was exemplary and all the staff extremely kind and friendly. The chef created menus tailored to her dietary needs which were delicious and beautifully
presented. The environment is like a 5 star hotel, newly opened in April this year so still stunning. Interior designed, luxurious and graceful. The manager is fantastic. There’s a hairdresser on site, a spa Bath and activities every day run by a staff member who went the extra mile every day. Thank you so much.

To be faced with a huge change in life at any time is daunting, even more so when you are elderly, confused and trying to come to terms with the prospect of leaving your home and all the memories that have been made over the years.
Barchester Sycamore Grove Care Home has been everything it has promised
to be. To see my ma-in-law settled, so happy, relaxed and actually enjoying herself is amazing and a new lease of time for her. She feels safe and well cared for by the fabulous friendly staff. As a family who love her deeply, this means so much to us. Well done everyone and a huge thank you!

Everyone at Sycamore Grove was helpful and friendly from our first viewing, Mum went for 2 weeks of respite, her first stay in a home. She was well cared for and with slight dementia has come home with better faculties, and coordination and enjoyed numerous activities including painting, singing, Ascot
and pizza making. She has eaten more than usual including a more varied diet which benefits her too. We all hope she will return for another stay soon.

My 90-year-old mother is staying for a few weeks of respite care. In her own words “They can’t do enough for me, everyone is so friendly”. It's spotless with great facilities and the attractive decor feels homely.
I have seen Mum's demeanour change to become brighter and more engaged with the wealth
of personalised activities on offer.
The welcome when we arrived was outstanding, there was attention to detail in settling her into her room. The food is wonderful and we celebrated her birthday with a delicious family meal and the chef made a special cake for her. As family visitors we are made welcome, it’s a lovely family atmosphere where she is being well cared for while retaining her dignity, making new friends and having fun. The staff have been professional, patient and reassuring in answering our numerous questions. Thank you.

“Wow” sums up my first impression and experiences of Sycamore Grove Care Home, it is the first and only care we viewed for our 91-year-old mother and to be honest did not need to see anymore! 5-star hotel comes to mind. Everything has been carefully thought out with the residents in mind, including
a spa bathroom, cinema room, lovely lounge, activity areas, big garden, lovely bedrooms with en-suite wet rooms and hairdressing /nail bar, cosy social dining rooms. All the staff are amazing and very professional in their varied roles especially the manager and home service advisor, activities lady, who have all gone above and beyond in answering any questions and reassuring us as this is all new to the family. Mum went for 2 weeks of respite and has since become a resident after living independently for many years and all the staff have treated her with dignity and respect, she is happy every day and she has made a best friend also 91. Chef/food is 5-star amazing!

My mother who is 100 years old moved into Sycamore Grove today. The manager, assistant manager and all staff made her feel so welcome. They all put Mum at ease on what could have been a very stressful day. The chef spent a lot of time with her to find out her food likes and dislikes. The housekeeper
made sure all her clothes were labelled and fresh to wear. The handyman put up pictures on the walls to make her room home from home. The activities coordinator spent a lot of time chatting with her to assess her preferences. The care staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Overall, without a doubt, this is the best care home my mother has experienced.

I trained in mental health and care management and forensics as a degree, and have been managing adult nursing and complex care home services for over 20 years. I bring a deep and caring knowledge of how to ensure the care given to you and your loved ones is at a standard you would expect and more so. My door is always open for a coffee and a chat for all. Care is a huge passion of mine, one which has led me to the House of Lords to positively champion adult social care and those who live and work within it.


For me, kind, caring, personalised and holistic care should be at the heart of everything my team and I will provide for you, and we will take the time to get you know you and deliver the best service we can to your wishes to live as independently as possible.


To be able to make a difference and share a part of your journey with you is something we find humbling and rewarding, and we cannot wait to meet you when you come to visit us or come into our care.

I have worked in the care industry for over 30 years, including managing a domiciliary home care business in the past. I love all aspects of care, especially caring for the elderly I started working for Barchester in 2021 and I love working for Barchester as it is an incredibly caring and empathetic business.


Due to my passion for care, I will use my skills, knowledge and experience and I will manage and lead my team in delivering outstanding care to our residents.


Daily I take home with me all the smiles, the hugs, the touches of the hands, the happiness in their eyes, the genuine joy of residents and knowledge I did everything I could to make their lives better. It is the greatest reward.

My career in hospitality and catering started in 1990. I trained in Jülich, Germany and started my career In Zurich and worked in many 4* and 5* Hotels in my career including Claridge’s (London), and Hotel Alpina (Klosters, Switzerland) to name a few, I then went on to work as a head chef in Switzerland. I am now very settled and happy in the UK, spending the last 12 years working for the 5* Landmark hotel in Marylebone, fulfilling many roles starting as Sous Chef and working my way up to an Executive Sous chef role.


I started working as a chef in the care sector in 2023. I chose to join Barchester as their standards and expectations are so high. I believe a good chef is an artist and should be able to create delicious menus from the local, seasonal produce on offer.


We have a strong passionate team here at Sycamore Grove and we are looking forward to welcoming our residents to their new homes.

I joined Sycamore Grove as Maintenance Manager in January 2023. Maintenance is paramount when it comes to our residents, relatives and colleagues, and my role is to keep the home environment up to the highest standards possible, ultimately creating a safe and warm place for our residents to live and my colleagues to work.


I also manage and deal with contractors, keeping records up-to-date for our audits. As part of my role, I am also responsible for maintaining the home's extensive grounds. Prior to joining the team at Sycamore Grove, I worked as a facilities manager for Tesco.

I first worked in the care sector in 2016. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, where I was an Activities Coordinator.


The largest and best part of my role was to ensure my residents were engaged in meaningful activities on a daily basis. I do this by taking into account their life history, their interests, likes and dislikes in order to promote their well-being currently and for the future. Liaising with family, friends and members of the community is also part of my role and it offers continuity to the lives of our residents. I love giving people a purpose and enabling our residents to do as much as possible of the things they love to do.

Hello, My name is Maria, I am a carer and the dementia champion at Sycamore Grove. I have worked in care for only 3 years and, I really wished I had done it sooner! I have experience in nursing care, end of life care, community care and residential care. I have been with Sycamore Grove for 8 months and absolutely adore the residents and work with an amazing, dedicated team. Life at Sycamore Grove is one big family, sharing stories, fun, laughter and even a few tears but I always go home with a big smile on my face because everyday is rewarding and I even get a few hugs from our lovely residents throughout the day.

My name is Jackie I’m a carer here at Sycamore Grove. I have been in the care industry for over 25 years, I’ve worked in nursing care, dementia care,home care and palliative care.
Caring for individuals and meeting their care needs is very rewarding and i absolutely love the feeling that you make a difference to someone everyday.
Meeting new residents and their families is always a pleasure too.
I’m a mum of 3 lovely girls and love the challenges of all that brings too if I’m not a Sycamore Grove I’m enjoying the busy life of running around and taking my girls to their sporting activities which I love.
I’m a positive and friendly person who likes to create a happy environment for our residents and also the wonderful staff that I work with we are a great team her at Sycamore Grove and one that I’m very grateful to be a part of.

Job Title: Therapy dog Joined: 2023

Hudson is our therapy friend who joins us in the home every couple of weeks for a visit. Hudson is a cuddly, friendly dog who enjoys his visits and loves his long runs through our garden. He is always welcoming to anyone who wishes to stroke him, but if you are a little nervous, he will sense it and keep his distance.
