Brendoncare St Giles View is a brand-new purpose built care home located on the top of a hill in the beautiful city of Winchester where residents can enjoy stunning views of the South Downs.

The home's 60 ensuite nursing and dementia care bedrooms are arranged into three households across three floors. There is a 24-hour nurse call system with call points in each bedroom and in the ensuite wet room. Some rooms have balconies; others have private outside space.

Each floor also has a kitchenette, lounges, outdoor space and theme quiet areas, perfect for reminiscing, chats with family or simply enjoying the view.

The décor uses design to help those living with dementia find their way around. It also reflects the leafy nature of the area, bringing the tranquil surroundings outside into the home.

The ground floor has a hair and beauty salon, café and community space with access to landscaped gardens commanding stunning views over the South Downs.

As well as nursing and dementia care, the home offers respite and end of life care and uses modern care technology, such as digital care plans and acoustic monitoring, to help deliver high quality care.

The building is impressive, newly built, modern and freshly decorated. However, there are a number of issues relating to care which require attention and addressing.
The quality of the food served to residents is poor. Frozen food, tasteless and reheated. More fresh veg needed rather than canned peas
and carrot batons.

Our dad only stayed in the home for just under 3 weeks but the care he received was outstanding, especially the night he passed away. The staff were very supportive of us as a family and ensured that dad's pain was well controlled and he was comfortable. As a family we are very gratefull to the team.
Reply from Lydia Lucas, Home Manager at Brendoncare St Giles ViewI am comforted to hear we were able to provide this care to your father during this time; though only here for a short period, I know the team and I felt we made meaningful relationships with you all and we continue to send our thoughts to your whole family. We are proud of the high-quality care you have described and how Dad's pain and comfort were maintained throughout. Thank you for sharing your experience, I will share your feedback with the team.

Mum moved into Brendoncare St Giles View when it first opened and sadly, passed away in April 2024. The kindness, love, professionalism and overall standard of care given to Mum - and all her family - was beyond exceptional and made Mum the happiest and most comfortable she possibly could have been.
Reply from Lydia Lucas, Home Manager at Brendoncare St Giles ViewThank you so much for taking the time to leave a detailed review and for including such lovely words. A sad time for you and your family but I am pleased to hear your feedback which I will share with the team who I know enjoyed getting to know and caring for Mum.

Communication excellent, especially when resident ill, looked after extremely well. Variation in activities for Littleton ward, which I know is difficult, would be appreciated.
Very hot in the home on level 3, Littleton ward, during summer, no air conditioning put in when built? Obviously, window opening
restricted, residents and staff.
Reply from Lydia Lucas, Home Manager at Brendoncare St Giles ViewThank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am so pleased to hear the positive experience you and Mum have had recently, we have really enjoyed getting to know Mum better and look forward to continuing to build positive relationships. Your points regarding the temperature of Littleton are valid and one of my priorities currently, we have now received quotes and details and agreed to install air conditioning which should be installed presently once the contractor gives a date. I appreciate this doesn't benefit us this summer but feels like we are making a positive move. We have recently, internally, promoted a highly regarded and experienced colleague to the well-being supervisor role, I know she is excited to work with residents and relatives to plan what activities could look like going forward at St Giles View.

Having joined my partner for the open day, when she was first shown her room and given an introductory tour of Brendoncare St Giles View Care Home and visited on day two after their move, I was amazed at the attention to detail and use of latest technology throughout this brand new, purpose-built facility.
Clearly,
the ethos of the Brendoncare Foundation generated over decades at their sister home will continue to shine through in Quarry Road. All the staff were equally thrilled with the relocation. The latest innovations and modern facilities will enable them to give residents the highest level of care.
Reply from Jon Bailey, Home Manager at Brendoncare St Giles ViewThank you for your lovely comments and it is great to see everyone settled in our new home and enjoying the fantastic facilities. Hopefully, you will get to benefit from some of our new technology also, especially the swanky new coffee machine in the café. Hope to see you soon.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.785)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.785) out of 10 for Brendoncare St Giles View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.785 for Brendoncare St Giles View is calculated as follows: ( (239 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 293 Ratings = 4.785
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brendoncare St Giles View is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Customer Experience Manager Joined: 2017

I have an excellent knowledge of the care sector having worked in social care since 2013, firstly as a specialist dementia CareGiver and then as a community support and engagement Manager. I joined Brendoncare in 2017 as the first Customer Relations Manager and have been involved in the opening of Otterbourne Hill and, most recently, St Giles View. My role involves offering support and advice to anyone looking for care for themselves or their loved ones and ensuring that their move goes as smoothly as possible.
