The decision to put mum into a care home was a traumatic one for all the family. After dad died mum struggled with early dementia but overall was really sad and lonely. Long Stone Manor was the 4th home we looked at and instantly we knew it was the palacial home that mum would be comfortable settling into. With home from home comforts, dog friendly visits allowed, endless opportunities to participate in activities and the most passionate, caring and dedicated team of staff it proved to be the case. Nothing is ever too much trouble and as guests we are made to feel a very welcome and integral part of the team. Thank you so much for making such a difficult time such an enjoyable one.

My very first experience of Care UK was as a relative when my grandad lived in one of its homes. I loved seeing how he was made to feel part of a family, and it made me want to be part of a team that made that possible.
I have now worked for Care UK for 14 years, starting as a carer and progressing to my current role as home manager. I have also undertaken level two and three NVQs and have a wealth of experience in dementia and end-of-life care.
In all caring roles, you need to be compassionate and respectful. You also need to be trustworthy and calm in stressful situations. Being a problem solver with good attention to detail helps a lot, too. As we work as a team, it’s essential to work well with others.
I have a huge amount of pride in what I do. My work is meaningful, and everyone here provides a warm and caring environment that prioritises dignified living and tailored support.
My favourite part of the day is the early morning and saying hello to everyone. Being able to sit and talk with residents is rewarding and enjoyable too, especially finding out about their lives and what they’ve achieved.
