Having been to the fortnightly exercise classes, it had already felt a lovely atmosphere.
I stayed for a week, last week and from my first, warm welcome, I felt so relaxed, safe and loved my stay in every way.

A wonderful team of staff who not only care for the residents beautifully but were so civil and supportive of each other.

My mum came to Barchester Hyacinth House in July 2024, initially as a four-week respite stay whilst recovering from a fall at home.

Her family had no hesitation in placing her following our meetings with managers and carers, all of whom were so friendly and helpful. Mum loves her room and the whole ambience of the house. It has been so wonderful to see Mum grow in confidence and get involved in the many activities provided which, of course, make us, her family, very happy too. Nothing is too much trouble for all of the staff.

Dear George, thank you for such a lovely review. We are so pleased your mum has enjoyed her respite visit and decided to stay with us long-term. It has been so wonderful to watch your mum interacting with other residents and staff, increasing her confidence, improving well-being and mobility. Once again, we all thank you for your kind feedback.

My week at Barchester Hyacinth House was a good experience. I have had an operation in July and was in need of being looked after. The room was comfortable and I was able to sleep well. I enjoyed having my breakfast in my room. The food was mainly good and it is good to have alternatives if needed.
The decor is so pleasant and this made it a pleasure to stay there.

As I am now, I am not ready for residential care but if I need another break from home, I would certainly return to Hyacinth House.

My mother was looked after so well by kind and compassionate staff who took the time to support and reassure her with all her needs. She loved the excellent food, and being able to choose from a variety of delicious options, in a sociable and friendly dining room. She enjoyed visiting the hairdressers and the daily outings too. She had a lovely room, both comfortable and with tasteful decor. It was the perfect respite for her and we were so grateful to all the team for their support in welcoming mum. A special thank you to the manager who is so lovely, and happy to help in any way she can.

My uncle came for respite care, rather unsure about the whole thing, physically only moving very slowly and mentally very down. He stayed for two weeks and found the whole experience absolutely amazing. As he said, 'They couldn't do enough for me, I was looked after so well. I know I paid to stay there, but the care they gave me went above and beyond what money pays for.'
When we collected him to take him back home he was walking much better and his attitude towards life had completely changed! He felt more positive, more alert, and more open to lots of things.
I cannot speak more highly of the whole team at Hyacinth House. Without exception, they were caring to my uncle, but also to myself and other relatives. They made us all feel very welcome, and 'part of the family'. My uncle said he would happily recommend Hyacinth House to anyone who asked - without any reservations!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience such a wonderful one, for everyone involved.

I came to Barchester Hyacinth House after a bad fall at home with two crushed lumbar vertebrae. I was also suffering from colitis. I could not have carried on at home even with health service support.

During my stay, my vertebrae have fused and I can stand unaided. I needed four visits to the hospital for treatment for colitis. On each occasion, I was escorted by a Barchester carer. It so happens that the infusions have put my colitis in remission. Careful dieting at Hyacinth House has been invaluable.

From my very first phone call to Hyacinth House at 19:12 hours on 27th December 2023, the service was very professional and ever so kind and caring to my mother and her children. The following morning, my son (adult nurse) and I met Hyacinth House's Home Services Advisor and she was again superb, quickly understood my mother's feelings, fears, and more importantly her needs. She was very clear and gave us a very detailed tour of the lovely care home and the activities available. Mum duly arrived the next day and her respite stay was very successful. All the staff, from the fantastic chef, amazing care staff and the management were just superb and so caring. Thank you.

Mom was a little anxious about going to Barchester Hyacinth House for some respite after an operation but from the moment she arrived, she was made to feel welcome and relaxed in the new environment. She enjoyed the fact it was home away from home, where her routine didn't change that much. She enjoyed the interaction with all the staff and the various activities that were put on for them. The food was lovely and small portions given as she liked. After two weeks, she is now talking of returning in the future for another "holiday". Well done to all the staff for making it such a pleasurable experience that she would like to return.

Overall Experience
My mother-in-law recently moved into Hyacinth House, first for a trial period. But when the trial ended there was no hesitation for our relative signing up to be a permanent guest. We were all a little anxious as to how this would work out, transitioning from living alone to becoming part of a new community but the staff are all very welcoming and dispelled any fears. No ask is too much trouble for the excellent team at Hyacinth House.
The facilities are akin to what you would find in a high class hotel, the food is amazing and the chefs are ready to adjust menus to suit all needs. There is also a good range of activities, enthusiastically put together and delivered, with the guests at the centre.

We cannot put any criticism at all with the home, or with any of the staff who are always very positive and friendly. I highly recommend Barchester Hyacinth House and we are 100% confident that our relative will be very well cared for and will enjoy her stay.

My mother has come to Barchester Hyacinth House for a month's respite. Hello, my name is Claire, and I am the Deputy Manager.

I was promoted to the new role in March 2026.

I started my career at Hyacinth House as a night senior carer in December 2023 and then as Care Community Lead in early January 2025. I previously worked in care for nearly three decades and have an NVQ 3 in Adult and Social Care. My career started when I provided respite for vulnerable children ranging from 0 to 17 years. As my own children were getting older, I changed direction and worked with adults. I have worked in both nursing and residential care.

In my spare time, I like to read, bake and swim. I also like walking with my husband and dog Ozzy! Spending time with my children, who are now qualified professionals themselves. Plus a little retail therapy, hiking and historical places.

Hyacinth House is such a lovely home. We have caring staff who show so much empathy to ensure our residents are treated as individuals and are genuinely interested and care about each and everyone of them, always with a smile on their faces

Hi, I am delighted to join the team as a hostess.

My background in catering properly began when I was a child, helping my Nan with the wonders of cooking using her Aga cooker and utilising all the seasonal fruits and vegetables from her garden.

I qualified at Bournemouth Catering College and spent several years working in a variety of hotels before moving into the business and Industry section of contract catering, where I have worked locally and also across the South coast.

I like to offer good service with a smile and get to know what people like by talking to them and liaising with the Head Chef, and the rest of the team to ensure we all provide a consistent high level of service.

When I'm not at work, I love to eat out with my husband and our friends. I also like jigsaw puzzles, sewing, reading and travelling.
