Visiting

  • Wellford Gardens is located in Wheatley a pleasant village with a good mix of amenities: shops, cafés, pubs and green spaces. Make the most of your visit by visiting Wheatley Windmill, Shotover Country Park or the local heritage trails, one of which is about a mile in length, starting from the Merry Bells car-park. The home welcomes visits from relatives and friends. While specific “open-visiting” hours are not in place, the ethos supports flexible visiting. Visitors may join residents for meals if desired — letting the home know in advance is courteous and please be aware of protected meal service times (when dining rooms are at their busiest) so as to maintain calm and dignity for residents. Driving Instructions (from main roads) • If you are coming via the A40: from Oxford head east on the A40 towards Wheatley; take the exit / slip-road for Wheatley and follow signs for the village. The home is located on Park Hill, just off the A40. • Using a sat-nav, enter OX33 1ND. • From London / M40 northbound: join the A40 towards Oxford, then take the Wheatley turn and follow Park Hill to the home. • If using public transport: Wheatley is served by bus routes (e.g., the 400, 49) and has a stop near Park Hill Roundabout, just a short walk from the home.

Parking

  • Visitors arriving by car should use the on-site parking/drop-off area at Wellford Gardens. If there is not an available spot or if in doubt come in the speak to the reception team that will also be able to assist you to the resident’s lounge or the resident’s private room. If on-site spaces are full, plan for a short walk from nearby parking in the village

Recently my grandad has needed to go into care for his dementia. The staff at Wellford Gardens are amazing. The are kind and caring and always have his best interest at heart. This weekend we joined him for a meal on Father's Day. They made every part of the meal feel very special. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and is happy in their care.

Mum moved to Wellford Gardens in January this year after several months of being in and out of hospital. She has settled well, the staff are very caring. The best thing is how much better she is physically and mentally, her walking has improved and she is much more independent. Beautiful room, lovely facilities and so nice for us being able to have a meal or a drink with her. We feel part of the Wellford Community. Thank you!

Wellford Gardens has been a very good answer to my particular situation. Having had a knee replacement operation and living alone, two weeks here meant that I would be well fed and watered and kindly looked after until l could manage again at home.(and thank you for the bath!) Facilities good Care /support excellent.Cleanliness excellent.Treated with dignity excellent Food and drink, this could have been better. For me, the portions were often too big and therefore off putting but I enjoyed the wine! STAFF. These are the most important part of the home and generally they did their job well. Sometimes understandably they seemed a little stressed.Activities, mostly fine and the Saturday event was excellent Management fine as I can tell . Flowers in room fabulous.Reponse to alarm calls excellent (Sorry for the panic in the middle of the night excellently handled)

I think for me my stay has been good value for money and I will certainly use you again .

Mum entered the home in August 2025 after a diagnosis of vascular dementia, and after a bad fall at home, my stepfather became a permanent resident earlier this month.
It's great to see them both being well looked after, and indeed my stepfather is thriving in his new environment.

Many thanks and appreciation to Rachel and the team at WG

We have just celebrated our mother's 93rd birthday in the fine dining room at Wellford Gardens. The food and service was excellent. Our hostess went out of her way to make everything perfect. At the end of the meal - the chef and his colleagues and some of the carers presented our mum with a beautiful birthday cake and sang a round of 'Happy Birthday'! These small, thoughtful, heart-felt gestures underpin our confidence that Wellford Gardens is and the perfect care home for our mum.

By August 2025 Mums condition was becoming too much, even with the help of a carer. It was taking its toll on all of us, and the decision was made to research a care home. My brother and me visited several homes in the area, and all were very nice. Wellford Gardens felt right. A lady came out from Wellford Gardens to assess Mum. She was charming and reassuring, and I knew better times were ahead. Four months on Wellford Gardens was the best choice we made. All our lives are better for it.

The occasion was lunch for my mother-in-law's 89th birthday. We pre-ordered a three-course meal, and it was served in the private dining room. The quality of food, portion sizes was absolutely perfect, along with a friendly, efficient service. The kitchen also provided a delicious birthday cake with no prompting, which we all thought was a very special touch. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, so thank you to all concerned.

My experience of Wellford Gardens was wonderful from start to finish. My mum was only at Wellford Gardens for 12 days; her decline was much quicker than expected. The staff cared for mum with genuine kindness and respect, making her feel safe and secure at all times. They also cared for us as a family during an incredibly sad time with such kindness, consideration, and nothing was any trouble. I am so grateful for the true care all the staff gave my precious mum and my family. Thank you all.

Wellford Gardens is an impressive modern care home with lovely bedrooms, great food, beautiful gardens and stimulating and enjoyable activities for the residents. But more importantly the staff are wonderful. Under their attentive care and kindness, our mother is thriving. She now has a quality of life that we thought was beyond her when she first moved into the home, and we have peace of mind knowing she is well looked after. We feel fortunate in our choice of Wellford Gardens.

My mum has been living at Wellford Gardens for 15 months now, and I can't rate it highly enough. It really feels as if she is part of a big family. Carers know her well and always have time for her. There is always something going on that she can join in. Her quality of life is so much better than when she was living alone at home. Excellent on all fronts! Thank you.

We have been lucky to find Wellford Gardens. It has proven to be perfect for our mother. She is enjoying her calm and beautiful surroundings and regular meals and conversations with the staff - joining in with activities through the experience and knowledge of a well managed, very caring team that knows how to work with people living with dementia. Everyone's warmth, kindness and friendliness is second to none; each ensuring our mother can enjoy as much as possible within boundaries that she is comfortable with. For high days and holidays the proverbial 'boat is really pushed out' - high quality dining in a sumptuous dining room when the service and delivery is outstanding. My mother was one of the first residents at Welford Gardens. She was made to feel very much at home the moment she arrived by staff and management. Her room was tastefully decorated and included an ensuite wet room and a patio which was always full of flowers and spectacular views across the Wheatley valley. Whilst the residents enjoy their own restaurant, the bistro allows resident's visitors to share meals, snacks and drinks. Staff at Welford prepared a lovely 3-course meal in the private dining room for my Mother and 8 family members on her birthday. The staff were always kind and compassionate, especially in her final days.

I've only had experience with 2 other care homes, but Welford definitely tops them all.
