Dorte Chandler is proud to be the General Manager at Wellford Gardens, following a successful career with the Trust. Before joining Wellford Gardens, Dorte was the Home Manager at Spencer Court. She has worked in the care industry for many years and initially joined OSJCT as a carer at Mayott House (now an ECH scheme) when she was 20. Shortly after, Dorte was promoted to Assistant Manager at the age of 21, which made her the youngest in the county at that time. Dorte then moved to Head of Care and became Home Manager with roles at various OSJCT care homes.
Dorte left to take up a position in the training department in Health and Social Care but, because she missed working in a care environment, she re-joined OSJCT in July 2018.
Dorte has a Registered Manager Award, Health and Social Care level 4 and a counselling certificate.
Typically, Dorte begins her day by walking around the home, making notes and chatting with the residents. Dorte meets with the heads of departments on a daily basis to discuss the day ahead and highlight any priorities or appointments.
Dorte feels that every part of her role is equally rewarding, and she particularly loves talking to the residents, making sure they are happy, safe and well taken care of.
Dorte has two particularly fond memories of her time with OSJCT. The first was at Mayott House where she helped a resident fulfil a lifelong ambition of flying in a plane. The second was when she arranged for a resident at Townsend, who used to work on the railway, to go first class on the train to Dawlish in Devon for the day.
In her spare time, Dorte and her husband help their neighbour by doing her gardening and taking her dog out for walks. Dorte also has a love of pets, ballroom dancing and travelling in her campervan.
Sally started as a carer in Glebe House Kidlington in 2015, where she moved over to the activities role in 2018. She moved to Spencer Court in 2021 and was thrilled to win the Trust’s Activities Co-Ordinator of the Year award 2021.
She has also been a finalist for The Outstanding Community Engagement Award two years running. In 2022, Sally was awarded a Chairman’s Commendation for meritorious service to OSJCT.
Sally is very much looking forward to her new role as Events Manager at Wellford Gardens. In particular, she will be looking to involve residents, families, volunteers and the wider community in her events to help create a vibrant environment in a wonderful home, cementing the home’s place at the heart of the community.
On a personal level, Sally enjoys spending time with her family, looking after her two grandsons, and going for long walks with her cocker spaniel, Piper, who also enjoys visiting the residents occasionally.
Andrew has worked for the Trust since November 2023 having previously been employed with another care provider for seven years, as a head chef, in a luxury residential care setting.
During his time previously, he enjoyed the commissioning stages and the setting up of the catering and hospitality services working closely with the residents to ensure they provided for their wants and needs.
Andrew’s passion is providing excellent food and catering services for our residents and their families.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family. He has a keen interest in history, spending time outdoors and working on classic sports cars.
Bekie has worked with the Trust since December 2023 having been working as an emergency call taker answering 999 calls.
She had previously worked in a luxury residential care home as a Housekeeping Manager before moving to the ambulance service. During her time there, she missed the rewarding & enjoyable roles within a care setting and so when the opportunity arose to work at Wellford Gardens, she was very keen to be part of the team.
Bekie’s background is in hospitality customer service within a number of different roles but her passion will always be social care. She is really looking forward to managing a new team and providing outstanding service to residents.
Outside of work, she is studying for a psychology degree.
Bekie also enjoys watching crime documentaries and snuggling up with her rescue cat, Freddie.
