Welcome to Welwyn Grange, a family owned home in Welwyn Garden City that challenges most people’s expectations of what a Residential Home with Nursing feels like. They are able to support those living with long term conditions such as dementia, complex nursing needs, long term and for short breaks (respite).

Welwyn Grange is a beautiful new build home, specially designed to be both ‘fit for purpose’ but with a twist of style. The home comprises of individual households, each with no more than 16 ensuite bedrooms. Every household has its own air-conditioned lounge and dining areas, while all residents can access the communal hair salon, private dining room and cinema room.

As beautiful as the home is, it’s the phenomenal care team who really bring Welwyn Grange to life. Unlike most homes, the nursing team are additional to the care team numbers. This enables them to have a proactive approach to nursing care, maintaining each person’s physical and mental health, while avoiding hospital admissions as much as possible.

Today you can allow yourself to come first!
• No more changing bedding or hoovering.
• Fresh home-cooked food, without the washing up.
• No hassle of keeping on top of household bills.
• Full support with your health and to live a fulfilling lifestyle.
• Freedom to do as little or as much as you like, but without ever feeling isolated at home again.

Welwyn Grange is your home and the team are here to support you.

After a very emotional experience at another care home, we were delighted when Welwyn Grange agreed to accept my father into their care following his discharge from hospital following a fall back in December 2024. Welwyn Grange is a stunning nursing home and feels like a beautiful hotel when inside.
My father had dementia and from the moment he arrived at Welwyn Grange they took great care of him and brought him back from a very poor state of health to the man he was before his fall. My father settled in very well and all the management, support staff and first hand carers treated him with respect and kindness. He was always encouraged to take part in the various activities and ,was shown great affection and friendship from everyone. When, as a family, we felt despair Welwyn Grange were our saviour. My father passed away in December 2025, with great dignity, in his bedroom at Welwyn Grange - just as he would have wanted. Welwyn Grange Nursing Home is just the best - thank you.

Our mum went to Welwyn Grange in May 2025 for respite care - whilst she was there we researched all neighbouring care homes, none came near to the standard of Welwyn Grange so in Aug 2025 mum moved in. She was welcomed immediately by all staff and residents and she could relax in her own lovely bedroom
surrounded by all her own bits and bobs or socialise in the several lounges, and we as a family felt secure in the fact that our mum was safe and well looked after. The environment is so relaxed and homely, facilities available to visiting family/friends are excellent too. We can not praise all staff - from those front of house to those well behind the scenes enough - mum had excellent care (almost too much food ;) ).
When mums time came to leave us the nurses on duty and carers were absolutely brilliant - showing mum dignity and love. Thank-you Welwyn Grange !

My wonderful step-father was sent to Welwyn Grange for end-of-life care direct from the hospital. We are so blessed that the Welwyn Grange was able to take him. While we were only there for a short time, the kind, caring staff and beautiful surroundings made his final days comfortable and as good as
they could be. We would like to thank all the staff, including the experienced nursing staff, for their attentive, gentle care, thoughtfulness and warmth. I miss going to the Grange and seeing all the staff as you were made to feel part of the extended family. Warm wishes to everyone there.

The care mum received at Welwyn Grange in the final two weeks of her life was outstanding. All the staff, whether receptionists, support workers or nurses, were always kind, considerate and respectful of mum. They also made me feel welcome at all times. I can't thank them enough for making mum comfortable
and looking after her so well.

Our elderly friend needed respite, and she couldn't have been cared for any better! She was so nervous going in, but the staff made her feel at ease straight away.
Staff are clearly enjoying working here and us as visitors were made to feel so welcome.
On top of that, the home is beautiful.
Our
friend is now at home, but told us she'd like to come back for a cuppa and say hello to the staff, and would soon like to go back for her 'pamper holiday'.
We brought in an anxious fragile bird, but got back home a chatty confident lady who's spreading her wings!
Thank you what all of you have done, you're all amazing!

At all times I found the support & care given very good indeed - from front of house to back of house and the invisible people in between. I cannot believe they could have done any more for my mother who was able to enjoy her remaining months in comfort and without need.
All members of staff were
capable and delivered their support in a kind, smiling, calm and professional manner -- truly invaluable.

My Mum went to Welwyn Grange for two weeks respite care in May and then moved in permanently in August this year. I cannot rate Welwyn Grange highly enough. Their level of care is second to none. Every single member of staff goes over and above to ensure that residents are looked after amazingly
well and their families kept up to speed with their care plan at all times. I couldn't wish for a better place for my Mum to be in this last chapter of her life. Absolute 10/10

My father was taken into Welwyn Grange care home in May 2025, he was on end of life care while he suffered with terminal Lung cancer. Unfortunately my father didn't get to see the care home as he couldn't get out of the bed due to his frailty. Nevertheless the staff made his last few months some of
the best times he had in many years, tending to his every need and nothing was too much trouble, with his immediate family not living close by it was good to know he was in safe hands with the staff there.
Everyone was attentive, patient and most of all cared about the residents, if I could score higher than 5 stars I would. As soon as you walk through the doors it feels like home, not like a traditional care home but more like a 5 star hotel!

While caring for my parents I have experienced about a dozen different care homes in the Welwyn/Hatfield area over the last 10 years. Some have been good, most average and some just terrible. I came across Welwyn Grange about two months ago and immediately arranged a visit. The building is brand new
and the home has only been open for about 10 months. It feels more like a very good hotel and nothing like a typical care home. The internal decor and resident facilities are first class. I was so impressed I decided to transfer my mother from her current home as soon as possible. She has been there for a month now and I have found the staff to be very professional, helpful, attentive and responsive. The activities are extremely well run the care provision is excellent and the residents all appear very settled and happy. In my opinion Welwyn Grange is on a completely different level to any other care home I have experienced and I would thoroughly recommend it. If only all were this good!

Visiting for the first time, I was treated to a "tour" of the common areas.

Wow!! Simply wow.

I had no idea care homes like this actually existed.

The facilities are akin to a very nice 5-star hotel with fantastic spaces to create stimulating experiences for residents.

But what was even

more impressive was the open, transparent attitude of the care team and senior leadership team members I met. Clearly committed to creating a fantastic environment where quality of care and continuous improvement is enshrined into the culture.

A truly fantastic place for friends and loved ones to spend later life.

We were looking for a care home for my parents located in Hertfordshire who support care service for Dementia for my Dad and nursing care for my mum. We found that The Grange care home caters for all my parents needs in a well organised environment which is friendly, efficient and respectful to all
my parents needs. My parents have integrated well into the daily life at The Grange where they have an independent daily routine combined with the educational, fun and community services that The Grange supply. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Grange care home if you are looking for a care home for your loved ones.

As our mum approached end of life it was critical to us as a family that we chose the best possible environment for her to spend her final days. After viewing a number of alternatives, we selected Welwyn Grange and are grateful that we did. From the initial contact that we had pre-admission right through
to her care as a resident, it was always professional but also compassionate. Their understanding of both our mum's requirements but also, crucially, our needs as a family at this difficult time could not have been better. We will be forever grateful for this and can highly recommend the Welwyn Grange to anyone considering either residential or nursing care for a loved one.

As a family we were so pleased and fortunate to find Welwyn Grange, as a safe place for our mother to spend her final days. We think that the standard of care she received, in their most caring environment, where she could be surrounded by her own possessions and her family, was exceptional. The high
level of care and facilities we don't feel could be improved on. Most importantly of all, the staff were not only totally professional and highly skilled but were overwhelmingly lovely, empathetic people, sensitive to mum's particular needs and to us her children. They supported us completely throughout this very difficult time. We cannot recommend them highly enough - individually, as a team, and as a care home.

Dad moved to Welwyn Grange from a care home 31/3/25 as he now needs nursing care.
As a family, we were absolutely blown away by what was on offer there from facilities, environment, professionalism and welcome shown by all staff and knew this would be the perfect forever home for Dad.
Welwyn Grange
made Dad and the family so welcome on the day of the move, which made it really easy for Dad to settle in to his new environment.
Dad is so happy, well cared for, the staff are all so caring and very generous with their time.
We really couldn't recommend them enough, they have exceeded our expectations

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.967)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.967) out of 10 for Welwyn Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.967 for Welwyn Grange is calculated as follows: ( (265 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 273 Ratings = 4.967
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Welwyn Grange is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 104 registered maximum number of service users is 20.8, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Chef Joined: 2024

From a young age, I have always had a keen interest in cooking and used to bake every weekend with my father, so from an early age I knew that I wanted to be a Chef.

At 15 I enrolled in culinary school and completed my NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery and ABC Level 2 in Patisserie. A year later I started my career in hospitality as a Pastry Chef, working in a 2 AA Rosette Restaurant Here I would help with developing new and unique recipes to feature on the menu, as well as prepare desserts for weddings and other events for up to 400 covers.

At the age of 18, I moved into care as a Deputy Chef Manager, here I learned quickly and made my way up to Head Chef in under a year. I developed menus for the Home and for the Day Center, incorporating the dietary requirements of all residents and customers, into daily meals. This meant working a lot with the IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) scale for modified foods and thickened liquids, as well as fortifying foods for those needing to increase or maintain their weight.

As a Chef, I always want to learn new things, so I decided to take the plunge back into hospitality as a Sous Chef, so I could widen my experience. I stayed for 2 years gaining more experience, when I saw the advert for a Head Chef at Potters Grange, a role I instinctively knew was perfect for me.

As Potters Grange is home to a maximum of 20 people, this family-like understanding makes it a lot easier to meet every individual’s needs and requirements, which means residents not only get the meals they like but they are cooked just the way they like it as well!
