St Cross Care Home aims to provide the residents with a secure, relaxed and homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort are of prime importance.

Nurses, Carers, and ancillary workers will strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and caring atmosphere and in so doing will be sensitive to the resident’s ever-changing needs. Such needs may be medical/therapeutic (for physical and mental welfare), cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional and social. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individualised digitalised Care Plans in which the involvement of family and friends may be appropriate and is greatly valued.

This will be achieved through a well thought out wellbeing programme designed on the three principles of mind, body and soul. St Cross Grange provides a range of wellbeing activities to suit the residents' age group. Social interaction with fellow residents, friends and family and the wider community are embraced.

St Cross Grange is in a sought-after location on the edge of Winchester and the South Downs National Park. This stunning building has been designed internally for the benefit of residents, whilst outside it still resembles the beautiful Victorian villa that was constructed in the late 18th century as a residential dwelling. The building has changed over the years but was most recently extended in 2013. Situated in its own grounds, the home offers nursing, dementia and residential care and has private, outside areas where residents can relax in comfort.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
We moved our Mother to The Grange in mid-June for a month of respite care. From the moment we arrived we have been welcomed and every request has been fulfilled. The staff, from management to the 24-hour nursing, carers, activities, domestic and cleaning, are all wonderful and have made an effort to
get to know our Mother. They always have time for her, are warm and very caring, and always do something extra that makes a difference. The food served is excellent, always cooked fresh, and different for each meal and each day. Even the cakes are homemade. Having undergone a thorough refurbishment the facilities and feel of the place are top-notch. The activities offered keep our Mother stimulated and happy. After a few weeks we decided to keep our Mother here permanently, so satisfied the family is with all aspects of her care. She has blossomed, and we are confident, however conflicting it can be moving to a care home, that The Grange will be looking after her very well.
Reply from Justine Thelwell, Director of Operations at St Cross Grange Care HomeWhat an incredible review to receive. Such kind words about the team and the facilities we offer. We are delighted to read how pleased you are with your Mother's overall comfort and wellbeing since coming to live at St Cross Grange. The team will be so proud to read how much you appreciate them and hoorah for those fabulous homemade cakes!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for St Cross Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for St Cross Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 249 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Cross Grange Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
