Our mother entered Ruby Lodge for 6 weeks respite care, following a fall at home, which resulted in a broken arm. From the outset, we were hugely impressed with, and grateful for, the kindness, care and reassurance offered to both Mum and ourselves. We felt totally secure leaving her in the care of people who were unfailingly patient and gentle, and whose smiles and friendliness made the visit such a pleasant experience. The home was spotless, well-maintained and welcoming, and rooms were wonderful. Food was of an excellent standard - 5 stars in fact! Thank you Holly and everyone involved in Mum's care - and a special mention to Susan on reception, who provided such a warm welcome when we visited.
Kind Regards
Ruby Lodge
Beautiful building with quality fittings. The reason for many 'good' in place of 'excellent' is a feeling of shortage of staff. The care from the majority of staff is excellent. My biggest problem is if my wife is distressed and I ring Ruby Lodge, I always get the receptionist, and sometimes she can't contact a 'senior' and even when I do speak to a senior it is some time before they get to my wife.

When visiting Dad this weekend, the dementia floor was clean, tidy. Dad was clean and tidy too, clean and shaven. There are now 14 people on this floor, quite an increase from when Dad first went. It now feels like there are not always enough staff for the number of residents on this floor. A number are not mobile, so when they require assistance, the residents can be left unattended. The residents require the most support.

From the start of residential care Ruby Lodge has always acted in a caring and sympathetic way. The facilities and the staff are truly excellent. I feel really comfortable in the fact that my wife receives 24/7 professional care from staff who are dedicated to providing the best of care.
Thank you for your kind review. We're delighted to hear that you feel reassured by the care your wife receives at Ruby Lodge. Your lovely comments about our team and facilities mean a great deal to us.
My aunt was very reluctant to move into care but it has been such a good move both for her and me. At home she would get anxious about the most little thing. I was convinced she wasn't eating properly. She is looking so much better since moving into Ruby Lodge. She is settled, calmer and doesn't have to worry about a thing. The staff are lovely, she has people about all day, and all her meals provided. A hairdresser comes in and a chiropodist. I can't think of anything she needs that isn't provided, including organising her regular hospital appointments. It is such a relief to me to know she is well looked after in such a lovely environment.
Thank you for sharing your feedback for Ruby Lodge Care Home and the positive effect it has been for your aunt (and yourself). Your positive words and kind comments will be shared with the staff team who will appreciate your feedback. Warmest regards
Ruby Lodge is undoubtedly an impressive building with first-class rooms, facilities and gardens. But what makes it really special is the care and love provided by the team that work there. We really feel as if this is my mum's home, where she is known and cared for. We have great communication and any concerns or questions are responded to immediately. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review for Ruby Lodge Care Home. Your kind words and positive feedback about the care, love, facilities and communication you and your mum receive will be shared with the staff team. Warmest regards,
My mum was in for respite for 7 weeks following a long hospital stay. She was really well looked after despite having quite a number of medical issues. She commented on some of the staff being so caring and helpful. When we visited the welcome was always good and the rooms and communal areas very clean and tidy. We were kept very well informed and the assessment from hospital to Ruby Lodge was well organised. Although I wish mum had made greater use of facilities we were happy that we felt she was always safe and secure. Mum said the food was exceptionally good and there were always options. She liked the fact there were a good number of vegetarian options too. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Ruby Lodge.
Best regards Holly.
My dad has been in respite care at Ruby Lodge Care Home since January 2026. He is settled and happy in the home. The staff are so welcoming and made him comfortable from day one. He enjoys the company of the carers and other residents and the activities which help him to socialise. The support he has is excellent, and I can relax knowing that he is safe and happy.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Ruby Lodge. It is our pleasure to care for your Dad here in Thirsk. We will pass your kind words on to the staff team.
As my husband's stay was for respite only I cannot possibly answer all the questions asked. However, for a short week, I was satisfied with his care which gave me so much relief and relaxation.
Thank you for the kind words of feedback here. We really do value your feedback from your Husbands time with us at Ruby Lodge.
Thanks Holly.
Mum is benefitting from the genuine care provided by the team at Ruby Lodge. She is enabled to be as independent as she can, the support steps up when she needs more help. When mum was poorly, the help was amazing. I can't thank them enough.
Thank you so much for the feedback - personalising care is so important to us, knowing when more support is needed and when to step back a little ensures we are being led by Mum when her needs change. Thank you.

Kindest regards Holly.
Time was taken to get to know my husband's needs along with his likes and dislikes. Communication was excellent and all members of the team were very friendly.
Ruby Lodge itself is beautiful and extremely clean. I don't think there is anything to compare with it in this area.
We will definitely be using it again for future respite periods and look forward to
joining a coffee morning soon.
Thank you for your feedback - settling well into respite is so important, we are thrilled that your experience was such a positive one all round and we look forward to welcoming you all back soon
My relative first went to Ruby Lodge for respite after several falls and a spell in hospital. He has thrived in the short time he has lived there. He has put on weight and looks better than he has for the last two years. Every time we visit we find him playing a game or chatting to other residents. His mental health and quality of life has improved and he is once again enjoying life. Really impressed with the staff who are very kind, know everyone's name and always know where we can find him. The facilities really contribute to his wellbeing. He benefits from being able to access different spaces around the building, whether that is scrabble in the pub, a coffee in the cafe, painting in the activity room or a quiet chat in a lounge.
Thank you so much for your review and feedback. We are so pleased that you feel our wonderful facilitates contribute to the wellbeing of your loved one as well as the care of the staff. We are thrilled to see our residents thrive especially after a spell in hospital.
