From my initial contact with Somer Valley I have felt that I have been listened to and that the care of my husband really mattered. The staff member on reception was bubbly and welcoming. Another staff member who visited us put my mind at rest and all the team have shown love, care and enthusiasm for
their jobs. The residents really matter and individual needs are addressed. The care home is so clean, bright and airy and is a place residents can really call home.

I have found the home, on every visit, which is 2 or 3 times a week to be spotless and immaculate. Staff, especially front of home, to be well presented, very helpful, polite, helpful, honest and kind to my dad, other residents and visitors. Food and drink is high quality and plentiful. Activities are
enjoyed and varied. Well done Oyster.

We had to find some care for our Mother after she had a fall and spent some time in hospital. Our aunt was already at this facility and we decided to use the home for some respite care. Although she had to find alternative accommodation through the financial side of things, we were pleased to have used
this care home for a short while as we knew she would be looked after well.

My mother who has Alzheimer's became a resident just three weeks ago. A major change for her, the transition has proven to be seamless. Staff/management have been superb in all aspects so far. Mother has settled in well and has begun to join in with other residents regards activities. We are therefore
very happy with the progress thus far and would recommend the facility without reservation. Thus far!

Our family cannot praise Somer Valley House highly enough.
The Home itself is new and stylish to the point of being luxurious. Mum's en-suite room is spacious, beautifully appointed and with an extremely comfortable bed. The daily menu is varied with good options and the food is of a high quality.
Most important of all though, each and every member of staff at Somer Valley House has just been so very friendly, kind, helpful and caring towards Mum which helped her settle in initially and which has since made her feel really safe and secure.
We are very grateful for, and appreciative of, everything that the lovely people at Somer Valley House have done for Mum since she moved in back in January 2025.

Somer Valley is a breath of fresh air in the care sector. From the moment you walk in the door ,whether resident or visitor ,you are welcomed and your wants or needs are important to the care team.
The home itself is light ,spacious and well thought out with ease of access for all.
Meals are home
cooked and well presented with alternative lighter bites available if the resident does not want a full cooked meal.
The person I visit has been a resident since December and is very comfortable and happy to be there. Carry on the good work Somer Valley.

Somer Valley House was just what Mum needed- kindness, empathy, attentiveness, and more, nothing was too much trouble. The staff were so welcoming and keen to make Mum's stay enjoyable. It was lovely to see her enjoying activities and being pampered by having her hair and nails done. As a family, we
also felt welcomed and enjoyed cups of tea and biccies with her each time we saw her.
Contact with other professionals and ourselves was efficient and clear, we felt so confident that Mum's care was holistic. We are so very grateful.
The rooms are beautifully furnished and so stylishly as are all the other areas, mum said the bed was really comfy.
We are so grateful that things worked out so well, a huge thank you to all the staff who made it so enjoyable for Mum and also for it to be such a pleasure to visit her there.

My father is a resident here at Somer Valley, the home is brand new so obviously very very nice, the facilities are great. Room is a good size and a great size wet room. The best of this home is the staff by far, everyone I've met has had my dad's best interests at heart and they do an amazing job with
him, I know how difficult he can be and nothing is too much trouble. They always make us feel welcome and know who we are there to visit. I would not hesitate to recommend as a care home for a family member. 11/10.

Carol brings a wealth of experience to Somer Valley House as its General Manager. With decades of experience managing nursing, residential, and dementia care homes, she is exceptionally well qualified for the role. Holding a degree in leadership and management, Carol has dedicated her career to supporting older people and leading large teams. She has been deeply involved in training and mentoring staff, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance with CQC requirements. Having successfully opened three care homes previously, Carol is well-equipped to lead Somer Valley House. She takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service and is excited to work closely with residents and their families.

I take pride in being kind, patient, friendly and understanding. I am passionate about doing the absolute best for our future residents, their families and the entire Somer Valley and Oyster Care home teams.

Bruce

Bruce Headford

Job Title: Head of Maintenance Joined: 2024

Born and raised in Somerset, Bruce began his career in horticulture after training at Radstock Tech and Cannington College. Working as a plantsman and landscaper at a local nursery before becoming the Head of Maintenance and Gardener at a 54-bed hotel.


In the mid-1980s, his career took a different direction when he decided to pursue a career as an HGV driver. Spending 30 years driving across the UK, Europe, and Africa, before a health scare in 2020 led me back to my roots in gardening and maintenance at a care home in Bath.


He lives locally with his partner, Vicky, and can often be found pottering in the garden at home or entertaining his six grandchildren. He is a National Trust members and love spending time exploring the local sites on leisurely strolls.

Laura Hewat

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2025

Born in South America and raised in Bradford-on-Avon, Laura Hewat brings a unique blend of creativity and passion to her role as Head Chef at Somer Valley House.


Originally a Fine Art Sculpture graduate from the London School of Arts, Laura ran her own plastering and decorating business, Nice Finish, for over a decade before retraining as a chef. Her culinary journey includes roles at renowned establishments such as Babington House and Ston Easton Park, with a specialisation in viennoiserie, pastry, and artisan chocolate making.


Inspired by her experiences in North and South America, Laura infuses her cooking with creativity and care. Having started her career in the care sector at The Mineral Bath, she is dedicated to providing high-quality, nourishing meals while fostering a positive, welcoming kitchen environment.


Laura is excited to make every meal at Somer Valley House a moment of joy for residents and staff alike.
